I installed AnV's kext without kernel panic. I'm getting some lines for the Carbus. I think the problem is here:

IOPCCardBridge::getOFConfigurationSettings: failed to configure the machine

What I can do?

Well....first of all I don't understand when you saying kernel panic because it should print out some debug message when you boot with verbose mode (when you try IOPCMCIAFamily.kext from this thread earlier).

Can we try again using ~Eureka's kext? Download rev 8 from the first post of this thread & put both kext, IOPCIFamily.kext & IOPCCardFamily.kext inside the Extensions folder. Repair permissions and then boot with "-f -s". This way you will boot into single-user mode. If it is successful you can see a command prompt. At that prompt, enter this command line-by-line (without # character):-

# mount -uw /

# dmesg > dmesg_rev8.txt

Send me that file (dmesg_rev8.txt) to me & I will look into it. It should be located at root drive (/).

Hi Chun-Nan!

Does your fix work with OS X 10.5.6? I tried PCCard.10.5.2.beta3.zip to restore Yukon 88E8055 ethernet, but failed. At the same time PCCard.10.5.2.beta3.zip restores Yukon under OS X 10.5.2.

Hi,

Download kext for 10.5.6. It able to get my 88E8038 worked. Download IOPCMCIAFamily.kext.zip not IOPCMCIAFamily.leopard.zip. Link is on the first page.

Hi,

my Leo 10.5.6 Retail is running smoothly on my EP45-UD3R Board.

Now I like to use my PC-PCMCIA-Card P222 (ENE 1420 Chip)

Installing (IOPCMCIAFamily.kext from http://www.mediafire.com/chunnan OR

IOPCIFamily.kext & IOPCCardFamily.kext from PCCard.10.5.2.beta3.zip OR

IOPCIFamily.kext v8 & IOPCCardFamily.kext v8 and IOPCMCIAFamily.kext from http://www.mediafire.com/chunnan)

results in loosing root device (without inserted Card P222).

Boot screens shows :

Extensions "com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only on style.

Extensions "com.apple.driver.ApplePCIConfigurator" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only on style.

Extensions "com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only on style.

12AppleACPIPCI is not compatible with its superclass, 11IOPCIBridge supperclass changed?

...

Failed to load extensions com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPCI.

Couldn't alloc class "AppleACPIPCI"

...

Still waiting for root device

Appears that I don't really know what kext exactly I do need!

Any Idea?

Thanks!

I installed IOPCMCIAFamily.kext.zip and the ethernet is still down. But suddenly the Atheros AR5006EG Wi-Wi card starded to work. It also works with IOPCMCIAFamily.leopard.zip installed.

1 What should i do to restore wired network as well? Mabe replace IOPPCIFamily with something? Re-applying PCCard.10.5.2.Beta2.pkg doesn't work.

2 Ther airport sign on the taskbar is empty and the Airport Utility can't find any wireless devices. Is there a fix for this issue?

Do you know your Yukon ethernet device & vendor ID? I think you need to add it in AppleYukon2.kext (Info.plist) file. No need to replace any kext file, IOPCMCIAFamily.kext.zip is the right driver for you. I think the reason why your aiport did not pickup any AP is because your airport detected as en0. It should be en1. en0 should be your Yukon ethernet. Find your ethernet device & vendor ID & put it in the AppleYukon2.kext:-

/System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleYukon2.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Emmmmm......sometime you need to turn on your airport in windows first & then reboot into OS X. It may work.

Good luck.

Hi,

Looks like there is conflict between ~Eureka's IOPCIFamily.kext with another kexts on your computer. Can you try this:

1) Try again with IOPCMCIAFamily.kext.zip & boot with -f -s & see if it boot successful. If it boot into single-user mode successfully, try boot normally. If you still stuck with normal boot, try again with -f -v. Let me know what happen.
2) If no success with no. 1, try again with IOPCMCIAFamily.kext.zip but this time remove IOPCCardFamily.kext from the extensions folder:-

/System/Library/Extensions/IOPCMCIAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOPCCardFamily.kext

Boot with -f -s. If it successful boot into single-user mode, boot normally. If it stuck again, boot with -f -v. Let me know what happen.

This problem maybe cause by bad file permissions. Fix permissions of IOPCMCIAFamily.kext:-

sudo -s
 chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IOPCMCIAFamily.kext
 chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IOPCMCIAFamily.kext

And boot with -f to update kext cache file.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't help. ( I have IONetworkingFamily.kext with right Info.plist. I also deleted from Extensions folder old IOPCIFamily.kext & IOPCCardFamily.kext, but Yukon isn't working still.

Here is a record from system log that i am sure has something to do with the issue:

localhost kernel[0]: AppleYukon2: 00000000,00000000 sk98osx_dnet - AllocIOInterruptHandler - Failed to allocate MSI interrupt

Atheros Wi-Fi can connect to AP just fine, and only doesn't appearing in the Airport Ulility. Also I have to reconnect to AP manually after each restart and there are ocassionaly crashes while opening Network pref pane or changing something within it.

Did you happen to installed Voodoo kernel (version 9.5.0)? I have seen that error with Voodoo kernel on my iPC 10.5.6. If you installed Voodoo kernel, it will replace vanilla System.kext with Voodoos' System.kext. I think it is the cause of the problem.

No, i use stock 9.6.0. kernel from 10.5.6. Comboupdate. Switching to the old kernel from Kalyway 10.5.2 and/or its kext doesn't help. As well as installing Vanilla 9.5.0 and 9.2.0 ToH Sllep kernels. I still get the same error with MSI interrupt and the ethernet doesn't work.

Here's what i did to restore kernel and the system.kext:

1 Copied mach_kernel from the image of 10.5.2 to the root of the volume, renaming it to "old".

2 Removed system.kext from /s/l/e folder and replaced it with kext from 10.5.2 using OSX86Tools. Then repaired disc permissions.

3 Booted with "old" flag.

Am i doing everything right?

I have also encountered the new issue after these manipulations. The system started to hang while attempting to connect to the AP with witeless adapter - even after returning to 9.6.0 kernel and its system.kext.

So there atre two questions i have now:

1 Is there anything else to do to activate Yukon under 10.5.6?

2 Or at last can i put Atheros wi-fi to work under 10.5.2? Installation of PCMCIAFamily.kext reveals it in the Network prefpane, but the Airport can't be turned on.

Hi,

Yeah, it is correct. I think you should go back to original kernel version 9.6.0 & System.kext from 10.5.6. I found out that after switching kernel, you need to boot with -f one time.

1) Can you send me your AppleYukon2.kext? I want to examine the kext & give me your device & vendor ID for your Yukon ethernet.

2) You need to use IOPCMCIAFamily.leopard.zip or older for OS X 10.5.2. I'm afraid your airport not recognized or not detected when you installed wrong version of IOPCMCIAFamily.kext on 10.5.2.

I tried both PCMCIAFamily for Leopard and Tiger, but still have no luck with Atheros under 10.5.2

The yukon2.kext from 10.5.6 is attached. Hope it'll help.

You see, i removed the IOPCISecondaryMatch key and string under 88EE8055 section in info.plist. With those parameters Yukon doesn't work even under 10.5.2

If have no luck with IOPCMCIAFamily.kext, try older version, for example beta 3.

I remember now, my friend have 88E8055 too. You need to use 88E8053 entry for your 88E8055. Meaning that you need to find 88E8053 & change to 88E8055. IOPCIPrimaryMatch should be change from 0x436211ab to 0x436311ab. Your device ID is 4363 right? I don't know why original entry for 88E8055 did not work.

I have installer package for both, PCMCIA/CardBus beta 3 driver for 10.5.2 and Yukon 88E8055. On 10.5.2, backup original IOPCIFamily.kext & IOPCCardFamily.kext before install beta 3 kexts. You also need to remove IOPCMCIAFamily.kext from your extensions folder.

No luck again. (

In 10.5.2 i applied Chun_Nan.PCMCIA.CardBus.Driver. After that the Airport disappeared from Network prefpane at all.

In 10.5.6 i tried several approaches based on what you said:

1 Removed 88E8055 section in info.plist and inserted devid + manufacturer id in 88E8053 section without changing anything else. - Doesn't work.

2 After step 1 i replaced all references to 88E8055 chip in corresponding section of info.plist with text 88E8055. Doesn't work.

3 Applied 88E8055 patch that you send me. Doesn't work. Moreover, it appears that info.plist within it just lacks 88E8055 section and the 88E8053 section is intact including product ids. I tweaked it as described above, but with no effect.

The message concerning MSI interrupt is still displaying during each reboot. And the another warning that might do something with the problem:

localhost kernel[0]: Extension "com.apple.driver.ApplePCIConfigurator" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style.

Also, some interesting thing revealed: if upgrading from 10.5.2 to 10.5.6 the Airport won't turn on if the ethernet (which comes down after upgrade) is still present in Networking prefpane. Remove it - and the Airport will work just fine. May be this is the reason why Atheros isn't working under 10.5.2. - it somehow conflicts with Yukon.

You can safely ignore this message. No problem at all. ;)

Emmm.....very odd indeed. By the way, I forgot to mention you that, the Yukon.88E8055.Fix.pkg that I send you, it only working with original AppleYukon2.kext. It require Chun-Nan's (~Eureka) IOPCIFamily.kext (already included in IOPCMCIAFamily.kext.zip - for 10.5.6). If you already change the Info.plist, the script included in the package will failed to do the job. I'm able to get my friend's 88E8055 working using this method. I don't know why this not working for you. Is there anyway you can restore your AppleYukon2.kext with the original one?

Summary what Yukon.88E8055.Fix.pkg does:-

1) Search for 88E8055 & change to 88E8055tempo. Search for 0x436311ab & change to 0x436311abtempo.

2) Search for 88E8053 & change to 88E8055. Search for 0x436211ab & change to 0x436311ab.

Both cards are finaly working under 10.5.6! Guess what i did? I just replaced AppleYukon2.kext with old AppleYukon.kext from Tiger and edited info.plist to set proper IDs. I'm happy beyond imagination. ) Guess i will post the solution in the Tutorials forum so the others could save a lot of time solving the same problem.

Hi kizwan,

thx for your answer.

Let me specify my adapter first in more detail.

It's an P222 from "Elan Digital System Ltd." which is recognized

by linux as :

magnus:~ # lspci -nn

..

05:02.0 CardBus bridge [0607]: Texas Instruments PCI1420 PC card Cardbus Controller [104c:ac51]

05:02.1 CardBus bridge [0607]: Texas Instruments PCI1420 PC card Cardbus Controller [104c:ac51]

..

root # dmesg

....

Yenta: CardBus bridge found at 0000:05:02.0 [414e:454c]

Yenta: Enabling burst memory read transactions

Yenta: Using CSCINT to route CSC interrupts to PCI

Yenta: Routing CardBus interrupts to PCI

Yenta TI: socket 0000:05:02.0, mfunc 0x00d00002, devctl 0x62

Yenta: ISA IRQ mask 0x0000, PCI irq 18

Yenta: CardBus bridge found at 0000:05:02.1 [414e:454c]

Yenta: Using CSCINT to route CSC interrupts to PCI

Yenta: Routing CardBus interrupts to PCI

Yenta TI: socket 0000:05:02.1, mfunc 0x00d00002, devctl 0x62

Yenta: ISA IRQ mask 0x0000, PCI irq 18

Yenta: Raising subordinate bus# of parent bus (#05) from #07 to #0a

Please note the different vendor/device ids.

System : [104c:ac51] => "Texas Instruments PCI1420 PC card Cardbus Controller"

Yenta : [414e:454c] => "CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1420 PC card Cardbus Controller"

The PCI-Card has 2 Slots where appearently only one is working :

Slot 0 works :

Jan 26 17:09:29 magnus kernel: DVB: registering new adapter (pluto2)

Jan 26 17:09:29 magnus kernel: pluto2 0000:06:00.0: board revision 2.15

Jan 26 17:09:29 magnus kernel: pluto2 0000:06:00.0: S/N 13320542100294

Jan 26 17:09:29 magnus kernel: pluto2 0000:06:00.0: MAC 00:d0:16:03:bb:91

slot 1 doesn't work :

Jan 13 10:13:39 magnus kernel: DVB: registering new adapter (pluto2)

Jan 13 10:13:39 magnus kernel: pluto2 0000:06:00.0: board revision 15.255

Jan 13 10:13:39 magnus kernel: pluto2 0000:06:00.0: S/N

Jan 13 10:13:39 magnus kernel: pluto2 0000:06:00.0: MAC ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

Jan 13 10:13:39 magnus kernel: pluto2 0000:06:00.0: could not attach frontend

It might be due to the different recognition of yenta, but I feel that i should tell.

Now back to OS X.

</div>

1.1) -f -s boots successfully, but pci-card is not recognized :

IOPCCard info: Mac OS X PCMCIA Card Services 3.3.0

IOPCCard info: options: [pci] [cardbus] [pnp]

IOPCCard info: Intel ISA/PCI/CardBus PCIC probe:

IOPCCard notice: Bad bridge mapping at 0xe7e04000!

IOPCCard info: no bridges found.

IOPCCardBridge::start failed

IOPCCard info: Intel ISA/PCI/CardBus PCIC probe:

IOPCCard notice: Bad bridge mapping at 0xe7e05000!

IOPCCard info: no bridges found.

IOPCCardBridge::start failed

1.2) -f -v results in black screen, last messages are

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitforService(rsourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out

IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out waiting to write kernel symbols

InterfaceNamer: timed out waiting for IOKit to quiesce

1.3) -f -v -x boots into secure mode successfully with login but failed IOPCCardBridge::start

2.1) didn't change anything!

Any idea!
