GoldenChaos
While browsing with Safari and listening to music with iTunes (and using CoverSutra, not sure if that's relevant), I experienced my system's first kernel panic. Before I explain the error, I'll explain how my system boots up: I have to tap one of the keys on my keyboard as my system starts up (akin to pressing any key to boot from a CD, except I have to do it for my hard drive). When I fail to tap one of the keys, the system tried to boot but experiences the "cannot load apple.com.boot.plist" error. This is normally the only error displayed. However, after this kernel panic, a new error is displayed: "Memory allocation error (0x0, 0x2000)" The system still boots fine when I tap a key. But perplexingly, my wireless card, a Broadcom 4318 which was working PERFECTLY before the panic, ceased to work. It is recognized as some generic wireless card, and the airport icon appears on the top bar, but is empty. When I try to turn the airport on, it does not turn on. I have a feeling that getting rid of the memory allocation error will fix the wireless card. I have a very stable system and do not want to wipe the hard drive again. I've spent too much time and work getting Leopard 10.5.1 working properly to reinstall it now, even with Time Machine backups (which won't restore directly anyway). I have an HP dv8040us AMD Turion64 computer, running Zeph's AMD Leopard DVD. I have tried replacing IO80211Family.kext, but that did not help. It doesn't even seem to load on boot. GoldenChaos
I wiped the hard drive, being impatient and wanting to experiment. Oddly enough, though the memory allocation error is gone, the wireless card problem remains. Could the card be broken? GoldenChaos
The card is not broken... I was able to use it in Linux. I'm wiping the hard drives completely and reinstalling everything from the ground up to see if I still get this problem. Moderators, if there is a problem with this post being in succession with my other two, please merge this and my second post together. If not, please leave this post in case somebody has a solution, as I desperately want to have my laptop working and would like people to see, read, and help me in this thread.
