Help!!!

I’ve got an HP Pavilion zd8000

Intel P4 HT 3.0GHZ

256 MB RAM

ATI Mobility Radeon X600 256MB

Realtek RTL8139/810x Fast Ethernet NIC

Conexant AC-97 Audio

I was recently running 10.4.1 and it ran great…just upgraded to 10.4.3 and now all I’m getting is a “missing operating system” error…

Here’s my process…

*Downloaded macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.dmg

*Converted to .iso using UltraISO (md5sum matched perfectly)

*Patched with JaS v4.2b

*Burned to a DVD-R

*Partitioned my drive (Windows=1st partition, OSX=2nd partition)

*OSX partition = formatted properly (not an extended partition, formatted as “af”)

*Used PartitionMagic to boot “af” partition

*Booted with 10.4.3 DVD…installation ran perfectly

*Installation rebooted itself, booted up with the DVD again into OSX installation, and I got the “You must reboot your computer” screen…

*Took the installation DVD out of the drive and restarted, and received the “missing operating system” message

*I have an UltimateBootCD so I’m easily able to boot my Windows partition without worry, but I cannot access OSX at all

*When I put the install DVD back in, I can boot into the installation again, and when I attempt to re-install, it shows that OSX is installed on the drive (and prompts me as to whether or not I’d like to back up the current installation)

Anybody know why this is happening? I also have Windows bootloader configured for dualboot (still configured from 10.4.1)…I checked the compatibility list and people have reported that 10.4.3 works fine on their HP zd8000…

Please let me know if you have any idea what I’m doing wrong!!!

This might be the problem, why did you need to use partition magic to boot the "af" partition when you were going to boot from DVD?

All is not lost then if you can still boot into windows. Whe you have windows booted again go into the disk manager and set your windows partition to active.

I also have Windows bootloader configured for dualboot (still configured from 10.4.1)

With a bit of luck after making sure that your windows partition is active you should be able to choose whether to boot windows or osx still. You may need to copy chain0 over to windows again, I'm not sure whether its the same for 10.4.1 and 10.4.3, I don't use the windows boot selector myself since I triple boot with linux and use grub for selecting which OS to load, I've also got OSX on its own seperate harddrive.

My windows partition is set to active...

My computer always boots to the windows boot manager, and gives me the option to boot OSX, but when i choose OSX the screen flashes and immediately gives me the same screen again (menu to choose Windows or OSX).

If I use partitionmagic to boot on the AF partition, then I get the "missing operating system" message...

ARGHH!!!! Any ideas?
