Hello All,

Pardon me if I'm a little slow on the uptake, I'm a little new to this stuff.

I have successfully installed uphuck 10.4.9 on an external usb hd for my

Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. Since I didn't attempt to install any kind of Nvidia

graphics driver, (since apparently it wouldnt work for the onboard 8400

that comes with this computer) I believe I am using the default Vesa driver.

Doesn't look real sharp, which doesn't bother me that much, but if I move

a window I get all kinds of artifacts which can make the screen unreadable

until I click outside of the window which seems to update the screen.

Some applications like Safari seem to be harder to use because the screen does

not update very well when you click outside the window. I guess the refresh

is kind of slow inside of the application's window as well. I am trying to use

Garageband and the waveform/midi editor window is almost impossible to

use because of slow/quirky screen refresh.

Is this typical for the Vesa driver? Is this what is referrred to here as "tearing"?

Short of actually having the right driver for the display adapter, is there any way

to improve this? I don't need to play games or anything would just like make

things more usable.

It looks like may be some hope for new Nvidea kexts etc elsewhere on this

forum if I updated to Leopard.

Just starting out, thanks for your help.
