EHCI is good to go, no need for ahci, if you want 32bit, you need to install a appleintelpx2ata for 32bit

cross-flashing is risky...

Yes, I was very skeptic of cross-flashing.

I booted into 32bit kernel without problems. But that still didn't solve my problem with Photoshop CS4 or my video encoding bugs (the resulting image is weird, messy). Has anyone had problems like this? I have even downgraded Chameleon from RC4 to RC3, but that also didn't solve any of my problems.

Hi,

As prompted by Jimmy hereby my findings for all those who encounter many (weird)

problems with the "SATA controller" in combination with MAC OS X Snow 10.6, as I had before.

My solution:

I bought a simple "sata to usb converter" +- 4$.

This converter is connected to my normal hard disk.

The bios emulates the converted (usb) hard disk as a real hard drive

and will start it as its primary master (bios boot order).

Everything works fine (including the sleep function),

it start and runs faster / more stable than my Leopard 10.5.8. installation.

I have used the following additional kext drivers:

FakeSMC.kext, OpenHaltRestart.kext, Sleepenabler.kext (10.6.2. edition), VoodooHDA.kext and AppleYukon2.kext.

My GeForce graphics card (string) was added to the com.apple.boot.plist file.

Greetings,

Wally

Hmmmmm I tried installing Photoshop CS4 today and it didn't work. When I had Leopard installed on this computer, it installed like a charm. On Snow Leopard it hangs at about 90% of the "Checking system profile".

CS4 works fine for me, but I did not reinstall it. I used Migration Assistant from my old 10.5.8 drive to the 10.6.2 drive.

Well, at least I "solved" my video encoding problem. In fact... THERE WERE NO VIDEO ENCODING PROBLEM. My real problem was MPlayer Extended, which wasn't being able to properly play MPEG-2 videos (that includes DVD-Video, of course). I tried VLC and that worked just fine. I burned a DVD, tried the DVD Player, worked fine too. Damn!

On the photoshop side of the Force... I still have to try and install it again. I read somewhere that the install problem might happen even with the Full (bought copy) version. So the solution would be to install CS4 with the computer TOTALLY unpluged from the net (be it wired or wireless). I will try that when I am home... otherwise I will go for your approach, Cave Man. I hope your tip solves the issue :(

By the way, I am trying to install the trial version (CS4)

I don't remember if I posted saying I was having a small problem with my sound. OK, the sound was working but its volume was low (even when I have slid it to the maximum).

What fixed the problem was installing the latest VoodooHDA kext and VoodooHDA.prefpane. Now I have a very good sound ouput

I wish a very very happy new year to all of you!

Snow 10.6

Not install on so I emailed the update the dmg does not work, then got the own update

9 - RUN THE "Chameleon-2.0-RC3-r.PKG", ok!

10 - AFTER THAT, YOU NEED TO RUN THE UNIVERSAL INSTALLER OSx86 Ok

When you reboot, black screen appears

So I can boot the system by "Psystar Rebelefi.ISO"

By "Chameleon-2.0-RC3-r.PKG" hangs on apple screen

Now What?

Thank you!

First of all, I have to admit it was kindda hard to understand what you wrote. But since I am also from a country where English is not the primary language.... OK.

burja, I had similar problems when I installed Snow Leopard on my P5K-SE. If you take a look some posts earlier, Jimmy even told me what to do.

Anyway, just so we can know what is happening to your system, try this:

1- Boot with Psi Rebel, but instead of hitting Enter/Return to boot from your HDD, issue "-v". Then you press ENTER/RETURN;

I had to that, because just trying to boot straight from the HDD or using Psy Rebel without the "-v" I wouldn't get the system to boot.

2- if you have any problems (there should be loads of information on your screen), report here.

I am just guessing, by what I experienced, you will be able to get into your Snow Leo using the tip in #1. If that worked, then check the advices/tips Jimmy gave me when I had a problem like that.

See ya

Can I use Carbon Copy Cloner to move from my 1 TB boot drive to a 2 TB boot drive? I realize I can clone it easy enough, but I'm not sure if it will boot without other modifications.

Hi,

I also use Carbon Copy Cloner (it is my primary backup solution).

You just have to adjust the Chameleon bootloader after the recovery process.

That's why I learned to unpack/unzip everything before applying the updates. Sometimes unziping, mouting DMG files just don't work right after an update.

Does anybody know, how i can use my apple keyboard?

bacause when im in leopard, the keyboard doesnt work (even not at the install) but works at bios (so the keyboard isnt damaged)!!

Is there a special kext or somethig like that outside? (:

Wally - thanks for the help. What do you mean by "adjust the Chameleon bootloader"?

Hi,

Customize the Chameleon boot loader and make it ready for the new drive.

Meanwhile, it is easier/faster to reinstall Chameleon on your new harddisk.

Hi everybody!

I'm coming back with an annoying problem: almost everytime I'm surfing the web, either on Firefox or Safari, Apple finds me in someway and my pc is blocked with the typical message in all languages that forces to restart the machine... have you ever experienced that?

Sorry if you discussed it already, I was away from the forum for so long and I didn't find a proper keyword to search.. thanks!

I didn't have that problem, The Director. Perhaps you missed one of the install steps?

Jimmy et. al.,

I'm currently in the knowledge-cram-into-brain phase of my first attempt at a hackintosh install:

Asus P5K/EPU

Intel Core 2 Dual @ 3.0ghz (E8400 wolfdale)

4x1gig DDR2

XFX Geforce 9600GT

Asus Geforce 7300 GS

500 gig/32mg seagate sata-II on sata 1

A functional sata II optical drive

I've basically been messing around for the past few days, bumping into walls and falling over a lot. Figured out that only the 1st and 2nd Sata ports were boot-friendly. Apparently also the 9600 (generally my main card) is problematic, so I switched PCI/PEG in bios so that the 7300 is the primary card.

I've mostly just been mucking around reading and half-understanding various guides and forum static.

Anyway: Are you still looking for testing help for your 10.6 install method? If no, would it make more sense for me to try and get 10.5.x working, or should I wait until a working 10.6 method is released?

random question that's been bugging me:

my current BIOS doesn't have the option to use AHCI, should I be looking to down/upgrade? I'm seeing mixed reports on various forums, and it's hard to find any current info.

anyway I'll be reading and rereading this thread over the next little while, thanks for all the work you've put in so far.

cmyr, I am not Jimmy, but I can discuss some points.

I have a XFX 9600GT which is working great on Snow Leo since install, so... that shouldn't be problematic for you.

About the BIOS, I have a "regular" P5K-SE (not EPU) and I don't have the AHCI option too, and I have even upgraded my BIOS to the latest version. As far as Jimmy told me, I shouldn't worry about that (afteral my Snow Leopard is working).

Send a PM to Jimmy and he might send you the instructions to get Snow Leo running ;) Then, if you still have doubts/problems, please report in this thread so we can help you.

I'm running the P5K/EPU, not the P5K-SE/EPU, for what it's worth. Neat to hear about the 9600 working, that would be a big plus... the 7300 is a noisy sort of backup card I don't use very often, and if I could avoid it that would be great.

I'm going to have to suck it up and boot up windows to figure out my precise system configuration.

thanks for the quick reply, I'll harass Jimmy in a few.

I don't think so, and everything worked just great when I finally got my full working OsX a year ago... By last summer, I began being blocked while surfing the web sometimes, but now it happens everytime!

Really, really weird. Never had such problems, be it with Leopard or Snow Leopard ;)

Anyone can help here?
