MuffinFlavored
This guide is dedicated to inform anyone with a Gigabyte P35-DQ6 motherboard how to set up any of the variations of Apple's operating system Mac OS X 10.5 on an X86 platform. Kalyway 10.5.1 with EFI and Vanilla Kernel: Obtain KALYWAY_LEO_10.5.1_intell_SSE2_SSE3.zip. Extract kalyway_leo_10.5.1.iso from KALYWAY_LEO_10.5.1_intell_SSE2_SSE3.zip. MD5 for KALYWAY_LEO_10.5.1_intell_SSE2_SSE3.zip - aff692cfe4daaae471f528974f5bac07MD5 for kalyway_leo_10.5.1.iso - f8546bde2a5b3c7dff47f2aab31862a9 Burn kalyway_leo_10.5.1.iso to a DVD-R/DVD+RW. Shut down your computer. Turn on your computer, and press the DELETE (DEL) key to get into the BIOs. Go to Advanced BIOS Features. Verify that "No-Execute Memory Protect" is "Enabled". Press ESCAPE (ESC) to return to the main BIOs screen. Go to Integrated Peripherals. Verify that "SATA Port0-3 Native Mode" is "Enabled". Verify that "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" is "AHCI". Press ESCAPE (ESC) to return to the main BIOs screen. Press ESCAPE (ESC) to exit the BIOs, saying "Y" to saving changes and exiting. Once your computer has reset, display the same screen where you pressed DELETE (DEL) to get into the BIOs, press F12 to get into the Boot Menu. Pressing F12 once is all that needed. You will not arrive to the Boot Menu until after the AHCI Boot Screen, after the BIOs. Select CD-ROM from the Boot Menu. You will boot into the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD-ROM you burnt. You do not need to do any boot options. You will see a series of "|", "/", "-", "/"s with no text for a while (the time it takes for your DVD to boot the kernel, load all extensions, attempt to detect all of your hardware, etc. THIS IS FINE, DO NOT WORRY. Once you are in the Kalyway 10.5.1 GUI installer (the graphic part where you can use your mouse, with the colors), simply press the button to continue, and once the menu appears, select Utilities. Select Disk Utility. Select whatever disk you would like, and partition it however you would like. MAKE SURE YOU CLICK "OPTIONS" ON YOUR PARTITION, AND SELECT GUID OR MBR BOOT TYPE. Once all partitioning and PARTITION BOOT TYPE IS SET, quit Disk Utility. Select the hard drive (or single partition) you just partitioned and SET PARTITION BOOT TYPE on as your destination volume. Click Customize. Scroll down to Boot loader efi. BY DEFAULT, THE BOOT LOADER EFI PACKAGE IS SELECTED FOR GUID PARTITIONS. IF YOU HAVE A GUID PARTITION, DO NOT TOUCH THIS. ONLY INSTALL THE PACKAGE FOR GUID. IF YOU HAVE AN MBR PARTITION, UN-SELECT THE GUID PARTITION PACKAGE, AND SELECT THE MBR PARTITION PACKAGE. Select Vanilla_Kernel ACPIPlatform, meaning BOTH Vanilla_Kernel and Vanilla_ACPI_fix. Do whatever you want with video card drivers, and sound drivers, and wireless drivers. Click Install. I WOULD LET THE DISK VERIFY. I USED A DVD+RW AND I RECEIVED SEVERAL "PACKAGE NAME HERE" COULD NOT BE VERIFIED, BECAUSE MY DISK WAS BAD. I RECOMMEND LETTING THE DISK VERIFY. Wait until the installation is done. If you did NOT let the disk verify, and you received errors about packages not being able to be verified, verify that your disk isn't messed up. If the verification fails, your disk is bad. If it is a DVD+RW, erasing it and re-burning doesn't fix it. (Atleast not for me.) Reboot once the installation is finished, either by pressing Reboot, or waiting 30 seconds. You are done. Not a thing to do from here for a clean system install. Audio: The Gigabyte P35-DQ6 uses the ALC889a. Download http://rapidshare.com/files/51585161/alc889a.zip.html Extract the 2 files, AppleHDA.kext and ALCinject.kext from the ZIP archive. Open Terminal from Applications > Utilities. Commands: sudo -s rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext cp -R PATH TO WHERE YOU EXTRACTED THE DOWNLOADED ALCinject.kext /System/Library/Extensions/ALCinject.kext cp -R PATH TO WHERE YOU EXTRACTED THE DOWNLOADED AppleHDA.kext /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/ALCinject.kext chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/ALCinject.kext chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/Extensions.mkext reboot ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ DO NOT DO THIS YET WITHOUT KNOWING THIS: After you reboot, on the next boot, press F8, type in -f to rebuild the extension cache. ToH without EFI: Obtain ToH_x86_9A581_RC2.iso. MD5 Checksum ToH_x86_9A581_RC2.iso - 83909703A60283FFC8F3DA1D8A8594F0 Burn ToH_x86_9A581_RC2.iso to a DVD. You will boot into the ToH 10.5 DVD-ROM you burnt. You do not need to do any boot options. Partition you hard drive as you would like. Complete the installation. You are done. la_mer
hi Many thanks for your info.. My mobo is P35 DS4 and I'm struggling with Kalyway installation right now. I found I missed this step: "Select the hard drive (or single partition) you just partitioned and SET PARTITION BOOT TYPE on as your destination volume." Would you please specify how to do this? and should SATA devices be set in AHCI mode in BIOS? socal swimmer
Hey if you are using a P35-DS4, my guide may also be of use to you: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=75863 Not to start a guide war or anything, of course . Mine also uses brazilmac. I also include information on the GUID partition map, and dual booting. PS: Muffin Flavored, if you want to include a link to my guide for a brazilmac section of the guide, I wouldnt mind lol. socal swimmer
In this case there are a few ways. One is to make Windows active, then use grub or chain0. Here is some info on chain0: chain0 is a file located in /usr/standalone/i386 containing the x86 bootsector for Darwin. If you copy it over to the root of your Windows system partition (usually C:), it can be used to boot Mac OS X through Windows XP's boot selector by adding a line to boot.ini:C:\chain0="Mac OS X86" chain0 will locate the HFS+ partition and will proceed to boot from it. from here... I just posted what I did, since it took me 4 DVDs, 3 days of no sleep because I wanted it to work so bad, and the sweat of my brow? for others, to prevent the sweat of brows, and DVDs. I don't use BrazilMac, didn't have to deal with it, but thanks. As far as a guide war, I just put stuff in bold and red, appeals more. In that part..what if you want to install on a Single hard drive that already has Vista installed on one partition and you made another for OSX? What can be done in this case? I'd appreciate any help! This would be dangerous. Your Mac OS X partition would become the "active" one, meaning it would boot over the Vista, and you may need the Vista DVD to set Vista to become the first. Look into GRUB. Hi there again... Is sleeping and shut down working correctly?? thanks in adavance Works for me? Why wouldn't it? And when shutdown, system goes off but power and fans keeps on!!! Can yo help me with this ?? coul be a bios setting or samething with grafic card? im lost thanks in advance! this one is a tricky workaround. First, you shutdown via Mac OS X. Then, when the fans and stuff are still on, you press and hold the power button (for about 4 seconds) until it shuts off. ta da! your computer is off! lol sorry about that, just tryin to be funny. It happens on mine too, and on nearly everyone's. dutchiee (=
hey i have this same mobo and followed ur guide step by step and im still stuck. I installed kalyway leopard to a different hard drive with the GUID partitioning and the GUID EFi boot loader and all the vanilla kernel stuff etc. i chose what was necessary and i made sure my bios settings were correct which they were. Installation goes pretty good and it asks me to reboot, so i do and then when i choose to boot the hdd all i get is a flashing _. IS there anyway you know how to fix this? socal swimmer
regarding package 0; that is not critical, and should not be causing your hang. However, here is how to fix it: "Package 0 didn't get an HPET" appears in the console, or in single user: ********Fix Package 0 ************* restart, and press <del> to enter bios, go to "Power Management Setup" change "HPET Mode" to "64-bit mode". press F10 to save and exit. Note that this HPET solution may cause problems with 32-bit vista. ********End Fix Package 0 ************* Here is what I did to my bios... Startup, enter BIOS by pressing <delete> when it shows you the full screen logo (otherwise known as the BIOS post screen) open "Integrated Peripherals". change "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" to "AHCI". change "SATA Port0-3 Native Mode" to "Enabled". change "onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" to "AHCI". press <esc> to go back to the main bios menu both of those were from my guide...
