I still can't get EFI Strings for ATI Saphire 3870 to work.

After installing reboot & shutdown fix, Sleep/restart/shutdown still don't work.

Any sugestions?

Could it be that you are using GA-EP35-DS4 (rev 2.1)?

Has anyone got this successfully working with rev 2.1?

I am not aware of any problems with GA-EP35-DS4 board. Do you have any info on it?

I had perfectly working 10.5.2 install with LTL v2 method.

Recently upgraded to 10.5.3 using LTL v3 scripts, but USB and Sleep don't work, so decided to try Ls8 method.

I am a noob to all of this. Not sure if there is something I am missing here.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Now that everything works with your pack there's only the shutdown thing left.

Your Leo-Install pack was really great. I simply used your installer and for sound I used AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext, latest AppleSMBIOS-28, added GFX-string for GTS 320MB via Efi-Studio and for Ethernet I used Realtekr1000.kext and a patched IONetworkingfamily.kext for TimeMachine.

Is it save to use that shutdown-fix program/script from that link on first post?

I found couple reports of this mobo fully working with Kalyway 10.5.2/10.5.3

Here is one: http://######.com/index.php?option=...3&Itemid=65

I'm using a revision 2.1 DS4 here with the pack from this thread and I'm not experiencing any problems.

I haven't tried sleep or reboot since downgrading bios from F12 to F8, but I use hackintosh as my primary PC and it's a revision 2.1 and running without a hitch.

I guess that my Natit.kext is not compatibile with Ls8 Install components.

If I could only get EFI Strings for my ATI 3870 working to confirm.

Is here anybody having EFI Strings for ATI 3870 installed and working?

Here is some info for GA-P35-DS4 with SATA HD. Booting is really fast.

It takes 10 seconds once apple logo shows up.

Just discovered how to speed up boot of Leopard on GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS4 motherboard !

Change in BIOS:

Integrated Peripherals/SATA RAID/AHCI mode to Disabled

Integrated Peripherals/SATA Port 0-3 Native Mode to Disabled

And long wait will vanish !

On revision 2.1 here I can't boot unless I have AHCI mode enabled both under RAID/AHCI and under SATA IDE/AHCI and SATA Port 0-3 Native Mode Enabled also. Boot time is also under 10 seconds once the kernel starts loading.

If I don't have SATA set to AHCI (in both places) and Native Mode enabled, I see "Waiting for root device..." -- strangely windows XP does not boot with AHCI, only Leopard.

To get xp to boot under ahci you needed to have installed achi from Intel and Gigabyte during windows install. You can install then after the fact but it requires a registry entry to be changed. You can google it and get some quite detailed walk throughs

Thanks for that but I boot into windows once every 3-4 months, changing from AHCI to IDE doesn't really bother me :D

LS8,

I know im being a worry wart about upgrading to 10.5.3 but I now rely on my 10.5.2 install and so does my business!

questions in 2 sections, if the answer is yes to the first section, you can forget about the second bit!

1) If i do a clean install using your most upto date install pack and go straight to 10.5.3 can i restore all my settings from time machine? will it be as i left it before the upgrade?

2) If i have to upgrade my working disk, do i-

a, have to upgrade the efi install

b, remove the kext's that I am going to replace with efi studio

c, do anything else other than running the post patch after upgrade and before adding efi studio's output

3) (I know there were only going to be 2 points but I thought of another) If I use CCC to copy my system disk, as it will be doing a file level copy, will it copy so i can boot from it or would I have to install efi and then restore the backed up disk?

Thanks for your continued help and patience

Wondering if someone can help me with 2 (minor) things.

1. I have 4GB of PC-8500 (1066mhz) RAM installed..... I followed LS8'S guide exactly, and it shows up as 800mhz only.... how can I get it to recognize the correct speed of my ram?

2. On system profiler, it detects my system as an IMAC...not MAC PRO... does this affect anything? Should I be concerned?

THANK YOU LS8 FOR AN AMAZING JOB!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the hard work :D

Two questions;

1) Do we still need a patched AppleHDA.kext when we are using the efi string?

2) Where did you get the JMicron kext as it still causes kernel oops on my system with 5gig of ram.

Thanks for any pointers.

...If I don't have SATA set to AHCI (in both places) and Native Mode enabled, I see "Waiting for root device..." -- strangely windows XP does not boot with AHCI, only Leopard.

You need JMicronATA driver in MacOS X for IDE (non-AHCI) support. It is included as an optional driver in LS8v11.

In Windows XP you need Intel Matrix Storage driver to support AHCI.

1/ Time Machine works the same way as it does on a real Mac. You can use it to restore an entire system, of just individual file(s).

2/ What do you mean by "upgrade my working disk"? You mean replacing an old disk with a new one? Or upgrading a working 10.5.2 install to 10.5.3?

2a/ When moving a working system to a new disk, you have to install PC_EFI manually to the new disk. You don't have to reinstall PC_EFI when just upgrading from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3.

2b/ You have to remove all injectors and other rellevant kexts (typically ALCInject, NVInject, replace patched IONetworkingFamily with vanilla) when moving to the EFI strings.

2c/ You have just run post-patch if you plan to use EFI strings for graphics, audio and ethernet. No further customization is required.

3/ CCC does not backup PC_EFI in file level copy. You have to install PC_EFI manually to the backup disk, it is bootable then.

... 4GB of PC-8500 (1066mhz) RAM ... shows up as 800mhz only...system profiler ... detects my system as an IMAC...not MAC PRO...

Try the latest AppleSMBIOS-28, see the first post. Both these values are informational only, it has no affect to the system performance or stability.

2) Where did you get the JMicron kext as it still causes kernel oops on my system with 5gig of ram.

1/ Yes.

2/ From karaakeha1.

...my computer can't see any usb device that i plugged in after the boot...

We need more details. What is you hardware, your installation method, update method. Did USB work before, it stopped working suddenly, or after installing something? I don't have any crystal ball.

I have modified the patcher to my needs. Perhaps someone else can put this to use, too.

http://rapidshare.com/files/126323223/DS4-LS8-RAZ.zip.html

The included com.apple.Boot.plist is suited to a 8800GT 512MB card. The included SMBIOS extension is hardcoded to 667 MHz and DDR2. I have added some checks in the patcher and it is easier to use volumes with spaces now. I have replaced PC_EFI by Chameleon.

Cheers, Raz

Thanks for the wonderful guide and script. I've learnt alot from the guide and scripts you've written (i'm still in the midst of reading the thread...currently at page 15..)

I'm trying to figure out how to change the "About Mac" screen.

It displayed 2.4 Ghz unknown and the RAM is displayed as 8 GB 667 Mhz (whereas i ran geekbench, it displayed as 800 Mhz.). I know it's cosmetics..but rather "annoying". -_-

Thanks!

I have one question about PC_EFI and Chameleon.... They need to reside in a boot partition? How does that work exactly. I am hoping to eventually setup a dual boot machine and I was going to use SBM as my boot manager, which resides 100% in the boot partition, but will this conflict with either of the EFI translators?
