1/ delete AppleACPIPlatform, replace it with the original version (should be placed in /vanilla/ folder)

2/ uninstall any shutdown fix

3/ install OpenHaltRestart

4/ delete /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

5/ reboot

It looks that OpenHaltRestart doesn't work for me. Still no shutdown, reboot is OK.

I am happy to report a successful install of ls8 v12 on a GA-P35-DS4 v. 2.0 (F8 bios)/Q6600/GeForce 8600 GT system. My system has two hard drives; I used Drive 1 to install Kalaway 1.5.2 and booted this drive to install a purchased retail install copy of Leopard (10.5.4 is contained on the DVDs now available). Because I do not allow my system to sleep (it is used as a screen server late at night from my laptop), I installed the Realtek 1000 kext, which enables Bonjour, enabling smooth integration with my Bonjour-capable printers. (The Realtek driver doesn't properly renew DHCP leases when the system wakes up from a sleep.) The GeForce 8600 GT string in EFI Studio is excellent; I get full Quartz graphics, dual monitors (including a 24" Dell at 1920 x 1200), and screen rotation. I didn't bother with sound since, for now, I plan to use my Firewave system to drive a Dell 5.1 surround sound system. It works perfectly. (If anyone is struggling with 5.1 sound, consider purchasing a Firewave unit from Griffin's Web site - they've discontinued this item and they're selling the remaining stock for US$19.) Bluetooth is provided by an Azio BTD603-132, which worked OOB. I had to apply a patched version of IONetworkingFamily.kext to get Time Machine to work. 8GB of RAM worked OOB. Restart is working fine for me. Haven't tried sleep or shutdown yet.

A couple of lessons learned:

* Don't install graphics card injectors (such as NVinject.kext)! If you do, you can't modify EFI strings. Plus, they're unstable, in my experience.

* Keep careful notes of exactly what you did. If you need to retrace your steps, your notes will help you avoid making an error.

An earlier attempt to upgrade to 10.5.5 resulted in a trashed install - I think this was due to the "experimentation" I did. I need to get some work done so this will go on the back burner for a while.

Thanks, ls8!

Installation of 10.5.5 on ls8 v.12/ga-p35-ds4

1. Restarted on auxiliary Kalyway drive (in same system)

2. Downloaded and installed 316GB Delta Install from Apple Downloads on the main boot drive

3. Deleted /vanilla folder on main boot drive

4. Ran post-install.sh on main boot drive

5. Rebooted on main drive - black dialog of death

6. Rebooted again on auxiliary drive

7. Deleted AppleIntelCPUManagement.kext

8. Rebooted on main boot drive

9. OK except Finder was crashing repeatedly.

10. Found solution HERE: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...rt=#entry893625

11. Followed exact steps in the post just mentioned

12. Problem solved! Everything else seems to be working OK.

I have a problem with my installation and can't really make out the problem.

All my hardware it working without any error exept for the Network-card (I think).

I can surf the webb, send and revieve emails and use ssh and ftp. But I cant

see my shared folders in my airport extreme, or the airport extreme or express in the airport utility.

Works if u run windows or on my MBP. I use DHCP, does that have anything to do with it?

Bonjour does not work with the EFI string. Also, please put your hardware setup in your sig so we can assist you more effectively.

Install 10.5.5 update, then chameleon, then post-patch and then reboot. You do not need the bootCD anymore.

The 10.5.5 update includes a reboot. Are you saying to Install the 10.5.5 update, reboot after update, chameleon, post-patch, and reboot again? Or is the reboot you referred to the one from installing the update?

I did 10.5.5 combo from another drive, then v12 post-patch, then reboot to the updated partition. Works fine :-)

Later, I also upgrade from pc_efi to chameleon, works fine too :-)

10.5.5 seems faster to me.

LS8,

First off thanks for your continued work here, I have been with you since V7 and its all good!

I just have 2 questions

I am running 10.5.4 with your V7 patch and efi strings. My build doesn't recognise firewire drives or usb drives unless they are present during boot. Any ideas???

Also Do i understand you correctly that I can update to .5 without running the post patch as no kext's need replacing??

(btw i have never installed chameleon, just the original pc_efi, should i upgrade and do you know the link to instructions if i do need to upgrade?)

Cheers

M

1/ both USB and FW work fine for me, maybe you should use a newer LS8 pack

2/ use the netkas trick if you need to upgrade to 10.5.5

3/ after update rename or remove your /vanilla folder, re-apply the latest post-patch (v12 for P35-DS4)

attention: ls8v12 does not use injectors, it expects you use EFI strings for your hardware

1/ delete AppleACPIPlatform, replace it with the original version (should be placed in /vanilla/ folder)

2/ uninstall any shutdown fix

3/ install OpenHaltRestart

4/ delete /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

5/ reboot

It looks that OpenHaltRestart doesn't work for me. Still no shutdown, reboot is OK.

Hey ls8,

Wouldn't it be a good idea to release a v13 package which doesn't replace the original AppleACPIPlatform.kext but adds the OpenHaltRestart.kext instead. I personnally think it would be a better solution (even if it doesn't work 100% for you) as this would be 1 more kext that wouldn't have to be modded/replaced anymore, which would be safer for future updates...

LS8v13 has already been released, it is for GA-EP45-DQ6 motherboard. I am no longer using GA-P35-DS4. OpenHaltRestart never worked for me, so I don't plan to include it to the package.

Hey ls8, can you please provide the link to LS8v13? Do you have a thread for it like for GA-P35-DS4? Just in case i want to upgrade too to a new MoBo. Thanks.

I can confirm that the OpenHaltRestart.kext works flawlessly on my rig. Restart was already working with modded AppleACPIPlatform from ls8 pack, but now restart and shutdown works perfectly with vanilla AppleACPIPlatform.kext thanks to this kext.

OpenHaltRestart.kext fixes the shutdown problem for me but locks up the system at random to the point where i have to do a hard reset. This is the error that appears in the console repeatedly:

kernel - vmnet: Failed to deep copy mbuf: 12.

kernel - vmnet: Bridge-en0: SendToVNet mbuf dup/copy failed: 12.

This might be caused by me having VMWare Fusion installed, not sure, but the lockups stop when using the AppleACPIPlatform.kext from ls8v12 + shutdown_fix.

I am running Jas 10.5.4 on a ga-p35-ds4 with a 9800 GTX video card. I updated my video card drivers and they seem to be working ok (no artifacts in the menus, etc) ..

I am having problems with my USB devices working after resuming from sleep or even screensaver mode (I cant actually get out of screen saver mode because my mouse/keyboard wont trigger the "wake up").. Thoughts on how I can get this to work?

Thanks

I completed a full clean install using 10.5.0 disk and upgrading to 10.5.5 and using chameleon efi.

Everything seemed fine but after 15-20 minutes if I try and open any applications or move files or empty trash nothing happens. Applications bounce in the dock for a while then do not open (not crashed, just not open) if I try to enter the trash I get message that you cant because it is already being emptied. Moving files places as zero byte file there but nothing else.

Help! anyone know what the problem is?

[EDIT] Additional- looks like open programs can not open new windows when the above occurs. Any Ideas guys????

[EDIT] Should mention after installation and running patches and installing efi strings I used migration assistant to restore my mail and apps (ticked everything in migration assistant)

[EDIT] I have removed all overclock and getting the same issues. I have noticed the 'Device removal' warning shortly before I am unable to open new programs and windows ect.

[EDIT] I tried to reinstall 10.5.5 update and rerun the patch but exactly the same symptoms exist

[EDIT] I have re-installed 10.5.5 update and re-applied the post patch but same symptoms persist.

I've upgraded my pc from 2 to 4 gb RAM and now my machine is not stable (reboot, crashes and etc) what's wrong?

core2duo, ga-ep35-ds4, kingston memory, mac os 10.5.5

First off put all your specs in your signature, its a lot easier for people to help.

Did you use an older version of the patch? did you install the old jmicron.kext to get an IDE drive working? the old kext was 32 bit only, once you put 4gb of ram in your machine it runs 64bit to address all of that ram. (there is a new version of this kext in the later packs.

Are you overclocking? maybe your new ram isn't up to the same spec as your older stuff. try taking the overclock off and see how it goes.

Does your new ram work ok by itself? take out your old stuff and run just with the new, does that give you errors?

Try these and report back, I'm sure its either the jmicron.kext or a hardware issue.
