You've got a guide that explains the install of a dualboot Leo/XP ? I made in the past a triple boot with Tiger/XP/Linux but it was handled by GRUB and that one was a pice of cake for installing it.

Don't know anything about GPT (GUID Partition Table)

Thanks

You've got a guide that explains the install of a dualboot Leo/XP?

Guide:

1/ Partition your disk as GPT

2/ Install Windows XP to the second partition

3/ Install Leopard to the first partition, install PC_EFI

4/ Reboot, press F8 during startup to choose between Leopard and XP

If you need to re-install Windows XP later, you have to reinstall PC_EFI then too. The Windows XP installer rewrites the MBR (where PC_EFI resides) automatically.

Hi, I've installed my Hackintosh on my DS4 board following all your instructions and everything was working fine up to 10.5.3. But when i software upgraded to 10.5.4, some problems appear. All applications are working well and whenever i do restart, it seem to "try" to reboot but will be stuck with my monitor sleeping but it never resume. I also don't hear the beep sound from system reboot from the DS4 board even though it is evident that power is still on. Sleep works well. Shutdown also behaves the same way as restart.

Sorry that i did not search the forum for the answers.. I notice the search function here is not effective as any search string i tried that is somewhat common (such as 'restart issue' or 'reboot problem'), I get almost all the major threads churn out!

I hope to find some help here ...

I installed leopard using this guide and the ds4-pack in v4.

Now I updated to 10.5.3 and used the ds4-pack v11 to replace the kext after install. Now I have several problems I can't get rid off but one that drives me nutz:

When I try to connect to the network via the "connect to .." dialog it tells me the entered address is not correct. It doesn't matter what I type in - it always tells the same.

I tried using the rtl1000.kext as well as an efi-string.

Any suggestions?

worked like a charm .. used the installer from the Chameleon website.

But I have still no clue how to get the networking to work.

it still doens't connect when I use "connect to server..." ... tells me that the input has to be in a special format "ie. afp://, smb:// ... " - absolutely nothing works.

Second big prob is that the screen is scrambled when I wake the hackintosh from sleep... :-(((

My system used to be perfect - two graphic cards with three screens, sleep, restart and power off 100% working, ... I shouldn't have done the update - now it is nearly useless because either QE/CI don't work or I have only 1024x768px, sleep doesn't work propperly, no restart, no shutdown, nothing ... and I have to spend hours on finding (or not) any solutions to the issues I have with 10.5.3/4 ... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

And yes, I have read and tried nearly everything related to P35-DS4 and these issues ... everything I ould find beneath all these posts asking for already discussed issues... omfg

I was using kalyway's dvd and my system works great with efi strings on a MBR drive with leopard 10.5.3 and Vista x86 on the same drive using darwin boot loader to switch between OS.

But I've got a new hard drive and i want to do a clean install on it using your install method which seems really clear and simple. There is 3 partition on the new disk formated as GPT but when i want to install Vista x64 on the second partition the windows installer says it cannot install on a GPT partition....

In the windows FAQ they say that windows xp can't boot on a gpt partition so how did you managed to install windows xp on your drive ?! They also say that "all windows vista versions can use GPT partitioned disks for data. Booting is only supported for EFI-based systems."

So i was wondering if we can use MBR instead of GUID for installing EFI ??

You cannot install from retail Leopard DVD to a MBR disk.

If you partition your disk as GPT in Leopard's Disk utility, it creates a protective partition which makes the first four partitions visible for MBR-only systems (including Windows XP). The first partition is the protective partition, you can install Windows to the second, third or fourth GPT partition. PC_EFI can boot from it.

But when i use disk utility to create my 3 partition (os X, Vista x64, Documents), when i reboot in the windows installer there is 3 others little (around 128Mo each if i remember well) partitions that i didn't created... Is that normal with GUID partition table ?!?

Yes, that is normal. These are the "protective partitions".

Did a complete reinstall using your method and your kext - except for the AppleHDA.

I used the last taruga kext for 885/889a ... now I have working sound but everytime osx plays a warning or similar there is a loud, dark click-like noise before the actual sound plays.

Any solutions for this?

Yes I noticed the same. before I read your comment I already updated about this today morning (in my install guide below my sign)

Actually except for cosmetic Change with extra Load of HDAenabler.kext Nothing fuctional was gained.

So Installed back old Patched AppleHDA.kext with EFI String Back to Normal :P.

The ls8_v11 didn't work for me after Installation. So I looked around and found some advicenou sing tarugas latest installer.

I will give your AppleHDA.kext another try - everything else now works - except sleep - the screen remains black after waking ... sleep used to work perfectly on 10.5.2 :D

I don't know why exactly - but I now use the RealtekR1000.kext v1.04 simultaneously with the efi-string generated by EFIStudio.

Bonjour works.

DHCP works.

With a fixed IP networking works after sleep.

With DHCP I have to reasign DHCP-Settings to work after sleep.

I'm coming closer to the state I already had using 10.5.2. The one big problem now is still the scrambled screen after sleep.

It can be resolved by switching to another output on the gfxcard.

For now I use only the string for the 7600GT 256MB with the Name of the card altered to 7900GT.

Everything else seems to work so far - only cosmetics aren't right. I.e. the Systemprofiler shows me an "Unknown AHCI Standard Controller", but the specs of the drives and the busses show up right, so I think that this is a minor issue.

Regarding sound: I switched back to the AppleHDA.kext from your ls8_v11 package - and this time it worked - but only as long as the HDEF-string is set. Systemprofiler shows "no audio device" and I can't use any MIDI-devices, it returns an "unknown midi error" every 2 seconds.

This might be because I used this latest taruga-installer for 889a. I think it alters more files than the AppleHDA.kext - unfortunately I failed to male a backup previous to the installation. :)

Help needed!

I originally installed with V7 script. I updated to 10.5.4, ran the new V11 post patch and nothing worked! I kept getting the restart prompt on boot. I have reinstalled the 10.5.4 then ran the V7 script and all is well.

What do I need to do to run with efi stings using the V7 post patch??

You wanna use google instead - type something like this in your search box: site:insanelymac.com/index.php? restart prompt
