I have fresh install of Leo from retail 10.5.1 DVD, updated to 10.5.3. And also have problems with my IDE LG DVD-recorder. The System Profiler says "This system does not contain any ATA devices. If you have any ATA devices installed, please check that they are connected and powered on.", and I cannot neither read, nor write CDs/DVDs, my DVD drive is not seen by the system, although it is being detected by the BIOS each time my machine is booting. Also my AHCI controller is detected by the system as "Unknown AHCI Standard Controller", but I dont know whether it is good or bad. I'll appreciate any help with returning my DVD-burner back to life.

Regards.

Uniquad check that you have installed JMironATA.kext it's disabled by default in post-patch.sh. I had to install it and boot -x-v to load it.

Has anyone a working com.apple.boot.plist for NVIDIA 8600GT 512mb they could post. I've tried making one via EFI studio but it doesn't work. Also how do you get audio to work via EFI studio it only gives a ALAC option with no choices of audi chip. Mine is 888.

cheers

Thank you for your reply. But I cannot use JMicronATA because I have 4GB RAM, and AFAIK this kext will crash by system as it is 32 bit and can work with max 3GB of memory. In my previous Leopard install there was not JMicronATA kext, and my DVD burner was available, but there was another problem with it: it crashed the system from time to time, sometimes when I was trying to burn something, sometimes when I was reading smth from a disk, and even when I just inserted a media into the drive.

But that was an old install of Leo, which was made in January. I think there should be fixed kexsts at the moment, or some alternatives, to avoid system crashes, but I dont know which ones exactly I need.

Hi, ls8 and thanks for keeping your post updated.

I´ve realized that ICH9R controller appears now as a "standard" in system profile. I included the dev id in the APPLEAHCPI kext but didn´t work.

thanks

Ok, thank you, I'm already looking for a SATA LG DVD burner with lightscribe, but they have magically disappeared from all our local stores since recently.

And what about "Unknown AHCI Standard Controller" string in my system profiler? Is it supposed to be recognized like that, or there should be something like "Intel ICH9R SATA Controller"? How do your system recognize the SATA controller? Btw, I possess P35-DS4 Rev 1.2 board.

if your mobo has ICH9R try inserting this into your info.plist file in appleAHCI it should also change the orange disk icon from orange to fixed

<key>ICH9RAHCI</key>

<dict>

<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>

<string>com.apple.driver.AppleAHCIPort</string>

<key>Chipset Name</key>

<string>ICH9-R AHCI</string>

<key>IOClass</key>

<string>AppleAHCI</string>

<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>

<string>0x29228086</string>

<key>IOProbeScore</key>

<integer>2000</integer>

<key>IOProviderClass</key>

<string>IOPCIDevice</string>

<key>Vendor Name</key>

<string>Intel</string>

</dict>

No orange fix with this it will just add ICH9-R AHCI to unknown AHCI , Use of IOAHCIFamily.kext changes external to internal

Hi,

I've installed Leo v10.5.3 using ls8 latest v10 install pack and instructions so I'm able to use EFI strings. Installation went fine, everything works without EFI strings (even audio, lan, ect...), still my display stays at 1024x... (no CI/QE) which is normal without EFI strings.

I have the Gigabyte EP35-DS4 with a Gigabyte GF8800 GT 512Mb TurboForce edition (G92). I could not use the EFI string studio creator for my grafics card as mine wasn't listed (only GF 8800 512 GTS was available, no GF 8800 GT 512), so i've generate the string myself manually (which isn't that hard). I've pasted it in the com.apple.Boot.plist as instructed in the tutorial with no avail, I still end up stuck with a black screen, although leopard is booting fine (I see everything until the desktop is loaded, then it turns into black, sometimes I see also the marble of death when in black screen).

I've tried with cyclonefr.plist and agrafusese.plist, always black screen once booted in leo. My display is connected through the first DVI port, but even connected to the second I've got the same result. I've even tried with the efi strings from the v10 pack of ls8, no success (still I see when Leopard is loaded a blue background with this EFI strings for a while before it turns back into black).

If I remove the EFI string from com.apple.Boot.plist, everything works fine again (no resolution change of course and without CI/QE).

My problem seems similar with this first post (same symptoms).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thx

P.S.: Problem is also posted here.

Why LG exactly? Anyway, if you can find one in your store, look for a $10 IDE->SATA convertor. I use one with my IDE Lite-on 20x DVD burner, and it works perfectly.

Hi Anyone suggest a fix for external drive icon not changing when used a time machine backup drive. Icon stays as orange external drive icon . Backup works just no icon change. Thanks
I don't use any fix for this, it simply works OOTB (see http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...t&id=29184).
...What is the best? Taruga method or EFI Strings?
There is probably no difference. The AppleHDA.kext has to be 'Taruga patched' for EFI string anyways.

...EFI Studio doesn't detect my onboard soundcard... (ALC889A from my Gigabyte P35-DS4)...

Strange. It works perfectly for my GA-P35-DS4.

I presume you used LS8 v10. You need a tutorial how to use EFI Studio? Kiddin?

Lauch the application - add your devices (graphics, audio, ethernet) - click WRITE - reboot.

Thanxx Is8, because EFI Studio doesn't detect my onboard soundcard... (ALC889A from my Gigabyte P35-DS4)

So, I use the new method of Taruga...

@++

You might try to remove HDAEnabler in order to use EFI studio and make it recognise you HAZAL chip.

Or you can make it simple, by using this string and changing only the Graphic Card name, VRAM amount and Bios version.

Otherwise as I told you try to use a patched AppeACPIPlatform to get a working reboot.

Don't you have to clear the kext cache and boot -f flag in order to make it work? I tried what you said with EFI studio creator (even manually, see my post above), rebooted and I'm always stuck with black screen and mouse a pointer (which I can move), sometimes is see a blue background for a while but then goes back to black and stays that way :) I even waited for 5 minutes...

You sign says reboot shutdown works any modification you did?

what are using for sound AppleHDA.kext.

Are you just Using EFI string for graphic ,lan, sound and reboot shut down just works with it.

Tried this on my test install :

EP35-ds3 rev 2.1 latest non-beta bios.

8800gt, Q6600, and 8gb RAM.

Followed everything from this guide, had to add sound, ethernet and GFX with EFI studio.

Sleep works OOB, no go with shutdown/restart.

Gonna try that patched ACPIplatform.kext now and see if that fixes restart.
