ok, it seems we're nearing a solution for the shutdown/restart problem, if you have the vanilla kernels installed.

I stumbled somewhere else over a nice little tool "poweroff fix" which in fact came from this insanelymac-thread

Fix PowerOff issue of poweroff on some Motherbroad while using vanilla kernel.

patch source: ovof

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=73234

script&packager: cobranail

more infomantion:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=69823&st=0

it seems, that the shutdown/restart issue has something to do with leopard not being able to shutdown all of the cores of the processor in the process of shutting down.

What the poweroff fix does, is turning off all but one core of the processor after giving the command to shut down. I tried it and it works perfectly on shutting down. Means: I can totally shut down the computer. Of course the cores are all back when you turn the machine back on. What it until now doesn't do: On restart it won't work. Since it is only an extension, it will work with vanilla kernel even after an update etc.

Note, that you have to install CHUD in order to let it work properly, CHUD is included in the XCode package.

I'm upping this now and will post the link to it here. For those who don't have CHUD installed with Xcode and don'T want to install the whole Xcode package, its included as a single package in the file you can download. If you get it to work, but love the pushing of the power button more, an uninstall script is included.

Update: Here is the promised link http://www.mediafire.com/?axujydeex3t

Cheers,

Ok you guys, this weekend I'll buy all the stuff needed to bring my own hackintosh alive and kicking.

The only thing I'm not sure off is the motherboard.

I'm still hesitating between the GA-P35-DS3P rev 2.x and GA-P35-DS4 rev 2.x. Any thoughts or remarks are greatly appreciated

Or maybe just another mobo :P

The GA-P35-DS4 has Firewire, the DS3P as far as I know not. Since I wanted a MB that is as much compatible to real macs i decided to spend the few bucks more to get Firewire also. The price difference isn't really that extreme to make that a difficult question. You should go for the DS4.

I agree, go for the DS4

No questions asked

The DS3P DOES have firewire.

As far as I know, the only major difference between the DS3p and DS4 is the sound... DS4 has an added DTR decoder or some such nonsense which was not important to me... so I picked the DS3P and am very happy with it.

good luck,

ninetto

Damned the DS3P rev 2.1 isn't available anymore in German stores ;)

The P35-DS3P, EP35-DS3P, P35T-DS3P, and P35-DS4 are all still in stock in my local shop in Brno. I regret a little buying the DS3R because I have other (real) Mac's in the house so the firewire would have been quite useful, plus I don't think the 3R is the best board of the bunch, I think this is the DS4.

I have an installation of Kalyway 10.5.2 Install DVD on my Hac Pro with Vanilla kernel - Shutdown and Restart don't work for me - I need to do that manually. Sleep appears to work but I have no interest in it as I never use it! I also have sound but no mic working although it appears in my sound options.

Question is - would it be appropriate to apply the updates here to my installation?

updated to v8, see first post

Thanks for the update. But a little information about the advantages of the new drivers would be cool, if there are any.

how about putting the files on mediafire? This waiting cycle at rapidshare is extremely silly.

i realize, that there is only one ich9r driver to be installed. cool. what does it do?

Try one of the kernels included in v8

It is vanilla kext, only with internal/external disk fix. See http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=695386

If v7 worked for you, then you don't need v8 :(

ls8 - thanks for your suggestion!

Question - is the site where the V8 file is hosted actually Rapidshare? my premium login does not work on the site and I notice the address is rapidshare.de not rapidshare.com - it has a header calling itself rapidshare but although its similar enough that I mistook it initially it is not the same. Have you had any problems with it?

@LS8: why did you put all question marks in your signature? Is the latest update that made this or something else? I'm asking this because I'm gonna buy the latest P35-EP35-DS4 rev2.1

Those question marks show that your encoding settings on your browser are wrong. They are little green/red apples. Are you still using MSIE on Windows? :thumbsdown_anim:
