You cannot install from Retail DVD to MBR. You can use dualboot on GPT, Vista fully supports GPT (it works for me, with Darwin bootloader). If you need Windows XP, you need second HDD with MBR for it.

Windows XP x64 supports GUID PT. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302873.

If you know how to make dualboot on MBR, do it the same way on GUID PT ;)

Do I install xp on GUID scheme on the second hd?

and after that with chain0, or how?

from wich hd i have to boot first, xp or leopard?

both hd are running on ahci. on port 0 is leopard hd and on port1 is xp hd

Don't mix two things: dualboot and XP on second HDD

If you still want Windows on second HDD then you don't have to care about GUID/MBR. Then you can have Leopard on first HDD with GUID PT, and Windows XP (32 or 64) on second HDD with MBR. Then press F12 on computer startup, interactive menu will appear and you can choose what disk you want to boot from.

If you want dualboot (Leopard installed from retail DVD and XP on the same HDD), then you have to use GUID PT and Windows x64 or Vista (32 or 64). First create GUID PT partitions, then install Windows XP to the first partition, then install PC_EFI (including GUID PT support) to the disk, install Leopard to the second partition. You can now boot from that HDD, press F8 during startup to choose between Windows/Leopard. You can set "Quiet Boot" to "No" in com.apple.Boot.plist to have this option every time your computer starts.

You can also try tripple-boot with Linux, and use GRUB as bootloader.

I will stay with the F12 option, if it's not possible to make a dual boot for this OS's installed on separate hd's.

I don't use linux and I need xp because i work with autocad.

Thank's for your effort.

Hi,,

First, thanks for your guide.

i installed leo using an ide drive but when i plug it and boot, the system "still wait for root device". I think it is because the ide driver is not loaded or not installed.

is possible to install leo using my ide drive?

thanks

Did you install jmicron driver?

# JMicron 363 driver - enable if you need it - may crash on systems with 4GB RAM
# sudo cp -r kext/JMicronATA.kext /Volumes/$DESTINATION/System/Library/Extensions/

EDIT2: Solved the issue with the microphone...Made a dump from Linux and used AppleHDApatcher with great success! Now everything is working!

Unfortunatelly input doesn't work for me. What connector do you use for mic in: pink or blue? What settings do you have in sound preferences as input source? Internal mic or line in?

Windows can be installed on GPT disks only on Itanium (IA64) machines.

This is what windows setup say's.

OK, I read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302873 again: Windows XP x64 can read GPT disks, but it cannot boot from it.

16. Can Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 read, write, and boot from GPT disks?

Yes, all versions can use GPT partitioned disks for data. Booting is only supported for EFI-based systems.

PC_EFI v8 works with Vista. You can boot Vista from GPT disk if you have PC_EFI.

Hey :-)

since yesterday I have a problem while download with fast speeds (>1 MB/sec). The computer gets unresponsive to mouse input. The install i have is from org. DVD with ls8's patch. Does anyone have experience with this, and could give me a hint about what to do? Is this a general error of Leopard or a hackintosh related issue?

Best Greetings,

Professor

Update: Silly me. It was the receiver of my logitech cordless keyboard and mouse, which was too near to the ethernet cable. Seems to be an interference or something. Problem solved.

Hi LS8,

Just a small correction from your previous post:

you're right XP cannot boot from GPT.

BUT: Disk Utility in Leopard create hybrid GPT/MBR disk, so it's possible to install XP on a GPT disk made from Leo.

Only drawback is you can only see the four first partitions on the disk from XP (only three useful partition since the first one is the GPT protected one) .

I've got six primary partitions on my GPT disk with XP and Leo installed.

The other problem, i've encountered is apparently on the gpt disk i can't use chain0 from XP bootlader to boot OSX I keep getting "hfs+ partition error". I haven't try very hard but it works perfectly from on of my other disk MBR formatted.

ALSO: XP seems to boot only if installed on the fourth partition (it installs ok on the third but can't boot, i haven't try the second since it's my osx partition, remember the first is reserved and can't be used)

Here's my setup:First disk is MBR and got both osx and Xp and used to have ubuntu as well

second disk is GPT and also got both osx and xp

The GPT disk is my test disk ,Once everything is perfect it'll be the system one

is there any way to get esata work us external hd's?

thank you v.m.

YES, you have to set your contollers to AHCI-mode in Bios, and then also use the original AppleAHCIPort and IOAHCIfamily kexts, NOT the ones provided in some "tweaked" downloads.

check my post HERE

This will cause your all your internal disks to show up as "external" but the hot-swap feature was more important to me that the cosmetics...

good luck,

Hi ls8

Great work! I've just reinstalled using your v7 scripts, to take advantage of the Netkas kernel and update to 10.5.2. I've noticed a couple of issues so far, which probably aren't even your fault:

1 I started up the first time without the network (ethernet) cable connected. After plugging the cable in, I couldn't get a network connection. Restarting, reinstalling the RealtekR1000.kext made no difference. I checked the cable was still working under XP. Finally, I used the SMART LAN option in the BIOS, which checks the link to the hub. This finally got it working on the following restart! I've set the ip manually, as I think there's still an issue with letting DHCP set this.

2 I've got a nVidia 8800 GTS 640MB, but only 256MB VRAM is recognised in the System Profiler. Any idea if this is normal?

I'm just letting it run through the system updates; I'll let you know if I notice any other quirks!

Okay, just read the bit on the front page about the time machine and airport updates installing a new kernel. That's why it didn't shut down properly! Does a new system.kext cause us any problems? Apart from the shutdown issue, I don't see any other problems at the moment.

Another issue I had, which is kind of important for me being a designer, is being able to get the character and keyboard palettes from the "international" menu bar. However, these didn't show up in the International system preferences. Follow these instructions if you have the same problem; worked fine for me.
