my Gigabyte P35-DS4 / Kalyway 10.5.2 + all updates crashes with > 3 GByte RAM. With only 3 Gigs it works perfect.

Has anybody an Idea how to fix this ?

Every day I see this question, and every day I seem to answer it. DO A SEARCH for JMicronATA.kext and you'll find the answer!!!

I have a hard drive problem. I have three 750GB hard drives, but only one is being detected at 698GB, one at 128GB, and one not at all.

check your bios if "S-ATA native mode" ore something like this is active. Try ACHI. Some more information about board and setup would be good!

sorry, I searched and tried for days but all threads about that deal with JMicron ATA ports and not memory problems :-(

If you know something why don´ t you tell me ?

All I assume now is that the JMicronATA.kext will not work with more than 3 Gigs.

Or is there any newer kext without this bug ?

Or is the only way deactivateing the jmicron in bios, remove the JMicronATA.kext and do everything on the other S-ATA controller ?

thanks!

I hope you know this is normal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabyte#Consumer_confusion (basically: 750GB = 698 Gibibytes, which is what most operating systems work with). I don't know about the other drives tho ;)

This is a known problem. A possible fix can be found in this post (basically you limit your memory to 3456MB). It's not a solution tho. Here's another thread discussing this issue: click me. If I find a post describing an actual solution, I'll be sure to let you know.

You should, I've posted the solution in umpteen threads over the last 4-6 weeks!

Delete the jmicronata.kext. It can't handle 64bit numbers. If you have PATA hard drives or DVD drives (like me) buy an IDE->SATA convertor for each device and plug it into the Orange SATA ports. Or you can just go and buy new HD's etc. Your choice. This is the last time I will say it.

BTW - the search function on this forum is {censored}. Use Google with the 'site:<url> search terms' format.

For the next time I stay with 3 Gigs, everything works fine so far - maybe there will be new jmicrons ..

I did your instructions, afterwards updated to 10.5.2 and grafics update.

almost everything runs fine, even my 800GT 512MB.

But i have one Problem, when i install AppleAHCIPort.kext IOAHCIFamily.kext and IOATAFamily.kext, to change my drives to internal mode.

I get the problem that at startup he delays with

"ERROR: FireWire unable to determine security-mode; defaulting to full-secure".

after ca. 20 sec. he starts the system, but the delay is anoying.

I really did not find anything here, sry, but everybody with enabled Firewire should have this Problem?

The problem appears after i applied the above mentioned files, anything else runs fine.

I started a new Topic, cause this Problem is not only DS4 related, it should appear to any ICH9R user

Anyone can Help? Thanks

Hello people!

First, thanks LS8 for the really great postisntall-script/patch.. it made my system fly right out the box!

Except for one thing though.. my system can't sleep properly. When I put it to sleep.. it's like it's shutting down instead.. cuz when I'm trying to wake it up.. I just get the BIOS POST screen and I have to boot up the machine normally again.

I installed Kalyway, mbr+efi (Dual boot with Win2k3 64bit if that matters). Then I patched the system, installed the 10.5.2 patch from Apples homepage. Followed netkas's guide. After that I ran the LS8-script to install the sound-kext and so on.

Everything works like a charm now, expect for the sleep.

I also installed the latest AppleACPIPlatform.kext from irc.osx86.hu and updated the AppleSMBIOS.kext.. no Improvement.

I belive that I'm running NVinject from 10.5.2 (also netkas).. at least System Profiler says so.

Any ideas about the sleep problem?

Btw, i'm running AHCI-mode and S3 in BIOS.

Thanks! :)

I don't know about Kalyway. Sleep works perfectly when installed from Retail DVD.

You can try new kernel 9.2.0 with fixed shutdown/reboot and AppleSMBIOS from netkas or nac.nub.

Thank you for the reply! But I made the decision to reinstall everything. Popping in my Retail DVD while in my current Kalyway and used your scripts to install onto another disk! Now everything is working as it should! :DThank you so much!

[sOLVED] EDIT: Do'h.. everything's working except Microphone Input.. Last time (with Kalyway) it worked with your kext files. (ACLinject and AppleHDA). The output works just fine.. but input is either non existent or distorted even crackles.. or something like that. :)

EDIT2: Solved the issue with the microphone.. turns out that I don't have the ALC889a.. I've got ALC885. Made a dump from Linux and used AppleHDApatcher with great success! Now everything is working!

I want create new version of GA-P35-DS4 install pack, with prepared EFI strings for different graphics. Please upload your working EFI strings (only complete: graphics, sound, network-TimeMachine) and I will add it to future version. Thanks!

Here are mine : NVIDIA 8800 GTS 320 Mo (PNY) + ALC889a + Ethernet / TimeMachine Fix.

I enclosed both the final hex and the plist so that it can be easily modified if needed.

Thank you. Your GFX string will be included in pack-v6, which will be released shortly. I am doing some tests now, complete reinstall with the new pack. If everuthink works fine, pack-v6 updated for Leopard 10.5.2 will be out tomorrow.

Replaced AudioHDA.kext to get rid of ALCinject!

Special thanks to LS8 for getting my Rig running quickly on a native OS X 10.5.2! After LS8-install, I ...

1) Built GFX-string from MoDs (http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,104.0.html) for my XFX 8600GT 256MB XXX

2) Replaced AppleHDA.kext with original 10.5.1 kext, got my own ALC889a Codec-dump in Ubuntu from jedavis1 (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...rt=#entry352952), and dragged and dropped it on Taruga's AppleHDAPatcher version 1.20 (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859)

3)Removed NVinject.kext, ALCinject.kext in Terminal with:

sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext

sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/ALCinject.kext

4) Deleted and rebuilt kext cache with:

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

sudo kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

5) Rebooted with:

sudo reboot :smoke::whistle::thumbsup_anim::graduated:

The pre- and post-install scripts are well commented, so can be easily edited for your specific needs.

update: version 2, ICH9R ATA drivers added

update: version 3, Realtek ethernet drivers updated

update: version 4, Jmicron JMB363 driver added

update: version 5, owners enabled on destination volume by default, ALC889a driver updated (by Alex), RTL1xxx returned, JMB363 not installed by default, EFI strings included

update: version 6, more EFI strings, pack updated for Leopard 10.5.2

1/ connect empty HDD to your Leopard machine (Apple or Hackintosh)

2/ run Disk Utility, create GUID partitions, find information about the partition - diskXsY, apply pre-patch (it installs PC EFI automatically - set your disk and volume information in the script before running it!)

3/ insert Leopard DVD, open terminal, enter: cd "/Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages"; open OSInstall.mpkg

4/ follow instructions, install to correct partition!

5/ download the Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update DMG (343MB) and install it - set destination correctly!

6/ download the Leopard Graphics Update DMG (48MB) and install it - set destination correctly!

7/ apply post-patch (it backups original files and then installs patched files and drivers required - set the destination volume in the script before running it!)

8/ download 9.2.0 sleep kernel with fixed shutdown and unpack it to /Volumes/$DESTINATION/

9/ download AppleSMBIOS-27 - the default unmodified version works just fine - and unpack it to /Volumes/$DESTINATION/System/Library/Extensions/

10/ repair permissions on /Volumes/$DESTINATION

11/ connect the disk to your new Hackintosh and boot it

I didn't try vanilla 9.2.0 yet. The patched one works fine for me, including sleep, reboot and shutdown.

Ahh... thought you, Karaakeha1, and myself were all using Vanilla Kernel. I guess its just Karaaheha1 and myself. My shutdown, sleep, and restart work fine, but then again, i don't sleep my computer often. Only thing about modified kernel that interests me is the ability to take advantage of speedstep. Have you thought about upgrading to a speedstep kernel?

I was using vanilla kernel in 10.5.1, shutdown didn't work 100%. With 10.5.2 update I installed patched 9.2.0 sleep kernel with reboot and shutdown fixed, it works great.

I will try screensaver with password ASAP.

Does digital audio out work with your patched AppleHDA?

Tested Digital Out with patched AppleHDA

(digital out from ACL889a to Edirol FA-101): 44.1/48/88.2/96kHz in 16/20/24 bit depth working!

I could only test in Stereo, since I don't have a system that accepts Encoded Digital Audio.

... My shutdown, sleep, and restart work fine, but then again, i don't sleep my computer often. Only thing about modified kernel that interests me is the ability to take advantage of speedstep. Have you thought about upgrading to a speedstep kernel? ...

I tried vanilla-kernel, and all the latest netkas-kernels. Here is what I found:

9.2.0 Speed-step works fine. But the kernel wasn't reliable to wake up from S(3)-sleep (Suspend to RAM)

Speed-step-less kernel works with S(3) sleep.

I really like the Suspend to RAM function. Saves energy + booting time. Then again if you overclocked your system to the max you might want to stay with the speed-step kernel because it will go easier on your processor. I personnally don't think overclocking over 3.4 GHz makes a difference (considering Front Bus Speed and Hard Drive Speed). I am sure netkas will provide an update on 9.2.0 soon with sleep fixed and then I will probably switch.

Patch your own AppleHDA.kext! It will save you boot time! Also watch out for Taruga's fixed AppleHDA.kext (from 10.5.2) coming soon at: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859)

Very interesting! I just switched out the vanilla kernel for the netkas and bam...screensaver is working with password now...sleep, shutdown as well.

Maybe it was a related issue.

Would be nice if the kernel also did speedstep

Lets see what the master comes up with

thanks, ill be updating my guide

why are you leaving AppleACPIPlatform out of your package now?

Patched AppleACPIPlatform was used as "reboot fix". Reboot is now fixed in the patched kernel, so you can use vanilla AppleACPIPlatform.

I haven't tested vanilla 9.2.0 kernel, if reboot doesn't work, you can try AppleACPIPlatform from pack.v5.

Hi LS8.

How do i install leopard with your method, but on MBR hd. (dual boot w/xp)

on GUID is perfect, but i want dual boot.

I have a ga-p35-ds4 rev.2, intel e6850, 4GB of ram, 2 hd's, video asus 7300gt.

Everything is from your guide, except mbr scheme on diskutil and 2 lines from pre-patch (with guid support, removed), but when i start the leopard installer it say : go back to diskutil and format the hd as guid style.

On guid method, everything is working well(perfect). but again, i want leopard on mbr hd.

All operations are made from a Macbook with the desktop hd connected to this.

I used a leopard install disk unmodified, wich i used to install on macbook.

thank's in advance.
