Just want to share my little experience with variuos smbios version.

right now I have three version tested ,mac.nub, netkas and the old one efi related(or ls8 if you prefer); independly from which version I use (right now I got the old one..) my machine, regularly , stops to leave me wake up from sleep for any small overclocking I have operated.

That's only me, or there is some one else with the same issue?

The shutdown , in every case ,can't be considered working in the literally sense.

I put my BIOS on a USB hard drive which I have formatted FAT32. The existing BIOS can read that drive, look on it for the new BIOS and upgrade itself. Sorta. For some reason the BIOS upgrade utility (the one in the BIOS :D ) didn't search my pen/thumb drive for a new BIOS, but it did see it on the USB hard drive.

Hey all... since were all in the same family of boards/installs... just wondering how your AFP and Bonjour is working? My SMB networking is fine (between macs, pcs, etc)... but having issues with AFP, Bonjour... of course, have tried every driver combo around...from Realtek, modified Realtek, new network card with 8169 chipset, native apple 8169 kext, etc... have come full circle now, just replaced most of the kexts with the current ones we are all using... and still no AFP or Bonjour

I think it could be an issue with IONetwork? I am working hard to find a solution but could use help since I suspect we are all experiencing the same issues (whether you notice it yet)

The frustrating thing is that it works really well on my Kalyway install

Tried:

What is Kalyway doing that we are not? Is it something in IONetworking? Frustrating... seems like something small hiding in the grass and I can't find it!!!

Gonna post on my thread as well... thanks

FavleX - It's the same board. DS3, DS4 etc. It's not the numbers, but the chipset thats important. I have DS3R and I used this exact same guide, and exact same LEO-P35-DS4 pack. Even some abit/asus/dfi owners could use this, if the chipset (southbridge and others) is identical.

Long Time.. Pay attention!

This is the P35-DS4 family not the DS3's one!

Ok ??!

:P

..sorry I didn't resist.

you say DS4, I say DS3P - lets call the whole thing off! :P

But seriously, its gonna be a tough divorce, we share the same chipset! :P

If you have the bios file (not the zip) in the root directory of the USB hard drive (pen didnt work for me) and press the key for bios flash at boot, a dialog will eventually appear which allows you to select the disk, and then the file.

If for some reason your disk is not showing up, ask these questions:

1. USB is enabled in BIOS

2. USB keyboard/mouse is disabled (not necessary but worth trying)

3. USB legacy on/off (not sure which one is right, but the wrong one could screw you)

4. USB hard drive is formatted with FAT or FAT32, not NTFS or HFS.

If none of this works, then if you have a floppy disk drive you do the flash from DOS (major PITA though, last resort only).

back in topic anyone knows why my bios utility doen's see any usb hdd or usb pen at all.

I mean I'm not able to downgrade to F8 and I'm not going to use windowsfor that.

a french user found a solution for it ( if of cours like told you coda every USB port and legacy are enabled in bios !) :

the problem was when he updated in 10.5.2, the system . kext was not installed properly, so he had to open the 10.5.2 with pacifist so as to extract system kext and reinstall it again, and of course, remove extensions.mkext and repair permissions.

After , he was again able to mount .img, and see his USB stick or HDD

hope this help

1. USB is enabled in BIOS Done

2. USB keyboard/mouse is disabled (not necessary but worth trying) My trick is here:disabled the usb keyboard

3. USB legacy on/off (not sure which one is right, but the wrong one could screw you) Not worth

4. USB hard drive is formatted with FAT or FAT32, not NTFS or HFS.Did it.It was a well known issue.

Thanks Again Coda

The funny thing is the bios see my usb pen like an hdd, but who cares!!Back to F8, my oveclocking now remain stable and permit wake up.At the end I can confimr we haven't the ultimate smbios on 10.5.2, just to demostrate it, with F11 on some smbios I've lost screenlock and screensaver activation, now on F8 they're back :)

..work in progress I mean.

[EDIT] 47 C degree using internet, mail it's considerd a bad temperature for overclocking at 2,8 Ghz?

OK, I think I will try F8 BIOS also.

47C idle is OK, but you should load up the cores though and see that the temps dont go much over 60C. Try 333x9 (3.0 Ghz), you should be able to do this with the stock cooler and stock voltages, and measure the temps at idle and load.

I managed to get my Q6600 running at 3.42 Ghz last night, but a few minutes of Prime95 in WinXP would show calculation errors in one thread (always on the first core for some reason). This is with temps hitting about 65C measured with Coretemp. I'll downgrade the BIOS and try again tonight, because with F11 I found it's much harder to get a stable overclock.

Sorry Favlex, I didn't read your sig, I just assumed Q6600.

The problem with stress testing under OSX on a hackintosh is that currently there are not any reliable temperature monitors. You can use 'Temperature Monitor' (what an original name huh), but there is some debate as to whether its reading the core temps properly on a Hac. That's why I have a small IDE drive (7gb) with WinXP on it for this sort of thing. There is an OSX app that can load up your CPU, but without being at home I can't find the name of it. I'm sure if you search this forum (using google) you will find it.

Also, if you are overclocking and your system boots and seems ok but it isn't you can screw up your OSX system because of disk caching (same for windows also). If I didn't have a small HD to run XP off, I would get a something like a 1gb thumb drive and install a bootable TinyXP (search the bay) with the CPUz, Coretemp, and Prime95 tools for testing.

yes I think u r right, at the and I might take the hated decision , reinstalling an old win32..maybe the old 98 :-))

Yeah, it's a shame to have to do it, but it can really speed up your troubleshooting, especially if you came from the windows world. Tip: disconnect or disable your OSX drive when you are installing windows. One of my XP installs for some reason unknown to me, overwrote the boot sector on the OSX drive, and I had mess around to fix it...

Big OT Consolation's found the way for configurating multichannell audio on our boards

Not imo! This is great news! Maybe LS8 can add a pre-made sound config to his pack? (If it's possible).

HandBrake :P

Unfortunatelly I don't have 5.1 speakers to test it. But if someone can provide a working config for our MoBo, I can add it to the pack :P
