Max_Berlin
I've installed your nforceata.kext. My Hacki: M2N32-SLI WIFI Nforce 590 MCP55 AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ GeForce8600GTS (512MB GDDR4) 3 Samsung HD501LJ PIONEER BD-ROM BDC-202: (No way to install from it) HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR-H30N <- I install from here. The new kext is a little faster, but when the system is on, it does not "see" the PATA CDROM. If I put a cd before I boot i can see and use it, but it does not eject at all, it does see and eject the SATA-BDROM. The system is generally smooth and works okay, I can't rip dvds or download large files from p2p networks, I'm not sure if this issues are related ... what I think is, nvidia is better handling intel systems (they are strategic partners with microsoft, and microsoft is co-owner of apple ) so amd+nvidia are less stable than intel+nvidia. I have another computer with amd proc and chipset, and is much more stable. Is just my opinion, maybe I'm totally wrong ... I'm not trying to take sides in this intel vs amd catch ... So long .., THX for your excellent work!

thewierdone2000
Hey, I was wondering if I could get some help with this... I installed this via the iAtkos v2i DVD, and it works fine... 2/3 of the time. Sometimes while booting it reports phy connection failed, and then resets the sata connection (can hear drives restart) and then says still waiting for root device... Other times it will say phy connection failed, but not reset the sata connection and it works fine. If it doesn't work, I can just reboot it a few times until it works, but it's quite annoying to walk out of the room for 10 min expecting a computer booted when you get back, only to have a gray apple. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
serigei
I've tried multiple versions of this driver and all have the same result. They work okay... until you do anything remotely disk intensive: hash checks, unzipping archives as small as 50MB, opening video files, etc. Some of the older ones seem to last a little longer than the newer ones, but maybe they just got luckier. It's okay if I leave it torrenting for a while, but that just means I can't do much else or it'll hard lock the system, no kernel panic or anything. But why does it work perfectly in Safe Boot mode? It's loading and using the exact same driver and everything. Is it being loaded differently? Is there a way to make it load like that in normal mode? Or, alternatively, how do I go from a Safe Boot to a normal boot without rebooting (and thereby losing SATA stability)? Is there an init type command I can enter? I tried just loading all the other kexts I needed, but surely there's other things that need done? Tried googling, but I guess I'm just not looking for the right phrases. EDIT: After much testing this evening, I believe I've found the answer to both my problems (forcedeth and AppleNForceATA). I'm using 4GB of RAM. I had read that AMD users should limit it to 2GB by adding memmax=2048 to com.apple.boot.plist, and I did, but somewhere along the line I forgot I had removed it without putting it back on. Everything seems to be stable now and no crashes even if I try to stress the system as much as I can. Multiple reboots, hash checks during large installers and file transfers, etc. It is a pain to be limited to half my RAM, sure, but I was planning on getting a new machine in a few months anyway, so I'll live. Sorry for complaining when it was a known issue caused by my own forgetfulness. Reposting this edit in the "Driver for nForce LAN" sticky in the LAN and Wireless forum. bhst2
So I got this very cool email from Domenico. I was asking him about his kext and what is going on with it. And if he could help me get my burner working. This was the response I'm a busy person, but I always try to reply to all the question people do me...I would like to help you, but now, i can't. Work, university and other little things (like repair friend pc's) keep me busy all the day, so i don't have the time to put leo on a pc and resolve this nasty issue with the dvd and the 4gb memory limit (if related to the sata kext). Also, i need to buy another sata hd + sata dvd burner in order to check this issue and, at the moment, i can't afford it. Please, be patient. At the end of the summer you will surely have your dvd-burner working! Best regards, Domenico.

I suggest you to create a software raid from osx. performace should be the same as the "fake" hardware raid (most onboard raid controller implements only basic functions and all the rest is handled by the raid driver). movingmage
Hello, I am trying to install Leopard, I keep getting the "still waiting for root device" error. I have tried Leo4allv3 as well as Kalway 10.5.2. I then tried injecting "AppleNForceATA.kext" into /System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns from MeDevil, Jan 100 '08 version. I re-burned the iso and booted again - same error. I have read the guides and wiki thoroughly, but may have missed something important. If anyone can offer me some assistance or even point me in the right direction, I'd very much appreciate it!
