fisk1
Guy's, I've read the whole topic i think, and i couldn't figure how to solve my problem, namely to install MAC OS 10.4.9 on Gigabyte nforce 430 SATA hdd. My boot dvd with mac finds the two hdd sata, but it is not able to write/ format on them due to the drivers as known, I've also read an article posted here, how to "inject" khex into dvd, but this again needs an os running or something, I've got only Vista and no access to MAC platform , sorry for my "next" dumb question, but I've been installing mac for 3 months and still nothing yet much appreciated any help.. funnypanks
@ funnypanks: On what type of chipset, sata controller, dev id, are you installing on? umm its the mcp61 0x03f610de. and its a prebuilt hp machine. yet for some reason it won't work, but im almost certain its cuz of the kernel. im installing 10.4.9 uphuck 1.3 with amd sse3 kernel. i have a 4800 x2. i'd understand if this doesnt get answered here but if anyone can recommend a kernel it would be great. funnypanks
Im using the same chipset and dev id, and i didnt get the dvd to work with the kext? Could you tell how you did it? sure well i should say first i have mac on my laptop. i opend the nforceata in mac and editied the plist so only my devid was under the sata area. then i used this part of debauchery's method 2. mkdir ~/inject 3. mkextunpack -d ~/inject /Volumes/YourMountedISO/System/Library/Extensions.mkext 5. cp -rp /path/to/new/AppleNForceATA.kext ~/inject 6. chown -R root:wheel ~/inject 7. chmod -R 755 ~/inject 8. kextcache -m ~/Extensions.mkext ~/inject then took my new mkext into windows and injected it into my dvd with transmac. obsidian describes this well "So back over on your Windows machine with TransMac open the ISO back up and in the top folder navigate to where your NewExtensions.mkext (renamed to Extensions.mkext) file is located and drag it back over to the directory we originally got the Extensions.mkext from: HFS+ Partition/System/Library. It'll ask if you want to overwrite the file, yes of course we do, happy little progress bar, aaaaaaaaaaaand DONE!" then opened my friendly nero and burned the image, also ur dvd might be .cdr, just rename it .iso and ull be able to open it with transmac. then install mac and reboot into dvd to install nforceata thru terminal, and repair permissions. i just realized i didnt repair permissions. time to try that. have fun man. oh yea which dvd did u use before with usb? i might try that one. user62756
MeDevilFirst and foremost thansk a bunch for all the work you do on this matter.First my system and then my issue / problemMB: ASUS M2NBP-VM CSMCPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+Southbridge: NVIDIA nForce 430B MCP Storage: Nvidia nForce 430B (MCP51) processor LAN: Nvidia nForce 430B built-in Gigabit MAC with external Marvell PHY - [Got this working with nForceEthernetController.kext]Northbridge: NVIDIA Quadro NVS210S GPU (aka 6150)Dual boot - Windows XP (on the SATA drive) and MacOSX in separate PATA using chain0 in boot.ini in the Windows disk. After the boot and login, I get the "Error - The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer" - since all the other disks - SHARED [FAT32, PATA partition on the same MACOS PATA drive], TRAVELDRIVE, SD CRUISER - USB, NTFS formated) appear to be mounted and working. To mount and get NTFS read and write I use MacFUSE core and NTFS_3G packages, with pretty good sucess.I look at the system.log (attached) and it seem that the problem appears to be related to this message, but I don't know enough to be sure. Before we begin, I want you to know that this kext driver WAS NOT TESTED UNDER LEOPARD (by me), so you'll get NO SUPPORT until i test it personally (which should occurr in the next few days). Now, for the unlucky people that were having troubles, follow those steps:1. delete all the apple nforce kext from the extension directory (/System/Library/Extensions/).2. delete all the apple nforce kext from the IOATAFamily.kext Plugins directory (/System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/) 3. download the zipped file in a new, clean directory and double click it to extract the kext.4. place the extracted kext: 4a. if you are creating/modify a dvd: place it into extensions.mkext (also delete previous kext) 4b. if you are booting from hd: place it into /System/Library/Extensions, chmod and chown the kext, then remove extensions.mkext and extensions.kextcache from parent directory (/System/Library/)5. shutdown the pc6. disconnect all pata hard disk (cdrom can remain connected)7. boot up the pc and take a look at the console output. If after this procedure the system is still reporting problems, please send me an email in the following format:HW ID: 0xXXXXXXXX (this is the dev/ven id example: 0x03f610de) Method: YYY ("HD" if you are booting from hd or "DVD" if you are using a bootable dvd) Also attach a copy of the system.log and the output of "ioreg -l -w0" (post them as an attachment!) if system.log isn't available, please try to post a picture of the boot progress or (try to) describe it exactly.if output of ioreg isn't available, specify "ioreg: not available" in the email.email subject MUST BE "NFORCE ATA ERROR". All other emails will get trashed (or flagged as spam). You can find my email address in the signature.Be prepared to be a kext tester. This mean: you'll try a (just compiled) debug version of the kext on your machine sent directly from me. (if irc access is available, it will really speed the resolution of the problem!)Regards, Domenico. Sorry forgot to add I am running tubgirl 10.4.10 MeDevilFirst and foremost thansk a bunch for all the work you do on this matter.First my system and then my issue / problemMB: ASUS M2NBP-VM CSMCPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+Southbridge: NVIDIA nForce 430B MCP Storage: Nvidia nForce 430B (MCP51) processor LAN: Nvidia nForce 430B built-in Gigabit MAC with external Marvell PHY - [Got this working with nForceEthernetController.kext]Northbridge: NVIDIA Quadro NVS210S GPU (aka 6150)Dual boot - Windows XP (on the SATA drive) and MacOSX in separate PATA using chain0 in boot.ini in the Windows disk. MeDevil
[CUT] The "Error - The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer", is not related to my driver. This error is surely related to the partition type you are using. Eg: ext2 formatted partition give this type of error (ext2 is not supported by osx, without a specific driver). Please, next time try to use the "Attachments" section for your system.log, and use the "edit" button to insert carriage returns, since the text is really *unreadable*. Thanks. Regards, Domenico. mikews99
i just want one person to say that booted from sata before i partition and install. If you look carefully at the specs in member's signatures, you'll see many folks (myself included) who are are booting from SATA drives. In fact, I'm booting both 10.4.10 and 10.5.1 on the same SATA drive with MeDevil's driver.A hint: install OS X on a PATA drive, install the NForce kext, then CloneTool the PATA drive to your SATA drive. Depending on your system, you may have to partition your drives with an earlier 10.4.x version of OS X for the MBR loader to properly install. If you partition that way, uncheck the "Erase Disk" checkbox in CloneTool before hatching the clone so it won't overwrite the MBR.[edit: weird double quote deleted]
KirbySaysHi
Just reporting in on this magnificent driver... Running 10.5.1 iAtkos, with a P5NSLI mobo (NForce 570, supposedly). Your driver works great! My three sata drives were all detecting flawlessly! There is one problem right now, which I don't think is related to your driver: my PATA drives (which were originally detected before your driver was installed) only report 128gb of max space, when one is really 250 and the other 320. Any ideas how to fix that? EDIT: SUCCESS! http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=419116 I followed steps 1-3 with a couple changes since I'm running Leopard, and now my drives are reporting correctly! The changes: step 3 is basically unnecessary, since if you're running as sudo you shouldn't be changing any permissions. Also, the Extensions.kextcache file no longer exists in Leopard. GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!!
pauℓzurrr. So i'm gonna wait for Rev2 of the Leopard AMD disk, which has this kext build into it, which will probaly still not work here

debauchery1st
Now that I've got OSX running on my laptop (hp dv6119us), I've got 2 more issues to tackle. The first one would be the ps2keyboard kext (laptop keyboard/trackpad freezes on boot), and the other one is the goddamn geforce go 6150. I haven't seen much driver support for the geforce go 6150, most people say it's hopeless to get it working. The main reason being the shared vram. Any chance they might be wrong about that? I heard that macvidia driver lets you change resolution, but I can't seem to get it working. Hey MeDevil, want to play around with another nvidia chip? The ata blocking bus is really a strange problem... maybe this is caused by shared irq (but really don't know how to fix, since is system-related!) The "still waiting for root device" is a message informing us that the system cannot finding the right boot device... try to sum the units in the "nforceata ecc ecc found X devices." messages and count your installed hd, if they match, then the cause is not the driver... Hi ok My System is booting the dvd just fine but i have another problem i can not make any partition on ata or sata drive?is someone havong a solution? Well, sure that my driver is not outputting that message, but it could be the cause of that... i really don't know if it's a system related issue (maybe, since this seems to happen on non-intel mobo's only) or just some stupid thing we are missing... If someone find a solution, let me know! Now that I've got OSX running on my laptop (hp dv6119us), I've got 2 more issues to tackle. poloperzer
Ok I wanted to use Disk Utility to make Partitions but i can't make them i onley get an I/0 Error from the Disk Utility. The same Problems with the JAS 1.4.8 AMD, Uphuck 1.4.9a and the Leopard AMD DVD. So for me it seems like the Driver mounts the Harddrives only Read-Only. Also I can't access to a pre formated drive made by Mac Drive. My device-id is 0x0256de and 0x0255de I hope this will hel you-
debauchery1st
No... i don't think i'll play with this chipset, mainly because:- i don't have here any geforce go to play with (wanna donate a laptop? donate yourself a sony vaio vgn-n38z, all works out of the box! ) - sound/video kext are really a pain to me... i prefer acpi / ide / net And... aren't we ot? Hope you resolve those nasty issues... Greetings, Domenico. I wasn't really serious when I asked. (This forum needs a [/sarcasm] tag.) Thanks for getting me as far as I am right now... mcMike
Report: Asus P5N-E SLI (nForce 650i) No AHCI 2 x 250MB SATA-2 drivers 1 x 40MB IDE-drive (Leopard Install) WORKS !!! Thank You very much and then some! Just copied the kext from XP using MacDrive to Leopard installation. Didn't even need to mod permissions. Booted to Leo and there are my SATA-drives FINALLY! Copied 1gb files form USB drives to SATA-partition - OK. Copied 1.5GB file from other SATA-partition to another - OK. No lockups. WOW! Next I need to try to move leopard to SATA-partition. Am I right to assume that once the kext is in place I can also boot Leopard from SATA-drive? Thank you once again. -mcMike
