Guys, I got a problem here.

I recently tried to boot Kalyway this version, which failed.

It booted successfully, but it only shows blue screen after finishing loading.

After using -v, i found some message showing that Firewire: Can not figure out disk security, turning full-security... like that (it's not exact) and showed some message that says can not find blah blah and so on.

I am using SSE2, Intel M730 Any solution? I have 1Gigabyte Memory DDR2-400.

I also tried in virtualbox and Vmware workstation, which all showed kernel panic and showed bad image with power button which says with three language including Japanese.

Any solution?

Hi guys, newbie here. I've just waited 4 days to complete the download of what I thought was a good Kalyway. It is a zip file which downloads okay and even appears to extract ... almost. The large .iso file included in the package extracts to 99% and then throws a "disk error". Can anyone point me to a good/fast torrent or a location I can ftp it from (fast)?

I'm planning to install it on a Levono t61p. It has an nVidea Quadro FX570M graphics card , an intel 4965AG wireless lan,Intel 82566MM Gigabit Ethernet and a AD SoundMax audio card. Ideally I'd like all of them to be working.... Any suggestions how/where I can get a driver for them. If need be I can swap out the wireless card but the sound is integrated as is the graphics. Which driver is the right one for the Quadro FX570M display adapter.

I think you'll need to send a private message with the details of the torrent/ftp download location.

If this doesn't work - does anyone have a good working vmware image I could try out?

Thanks for all your great work guys. I think OSX rocks!

FIX FOR HAVING TO USE INSTALL DVD TO BOOT FROM HARD DRIVE:

after scouring the internet I found the answer: kalyway can't handle disk volume names with spaces. I kept using "Mac OS X" and that was messing it up. I reinstalled and used MacOSX and it was PERFECT. this really needs to get put in the original post or something.

also I didn't read the instructions my first couple times installing from kalyway:

boot from the kalyway dvd, then go to utilities, disk, partition tab, set the size and click OPTIONS, make sure you do it before applying the new partition. this is where you get to choose between MBR or GUID partition scheme. then apply. then exit and continue with install. later there will be a customize, go back or continue page. choose customize, then choose both vanilla kernel options, and then at the bottom you choose either efi_guid or efi_mbr depending on what kind of partition you created with the disk utility earlier. easybcd seems to handle mbr but not guid so I'd just choose mbr. I also found a neosmart forum post saying that some osx86 install discs didn't write the bootloader to the boot sector, only the mbr. which causes a chain error when trying to boot osx from the vista boot loader. I haven't been able to verify that yet since I installed os x with guid. good luck with your installs!

edit: MBR makes easybcd work. I reinstalled using mbr instead of guid and then went into vista by changing my hard disk boot priority. then I used easybcd to add the mac entry to the boot loader w generic x86 as the comp type, it was like a 2 click process. I rebooted and mac os x appeared in my boot loader menu and it successfully booted to mac os x. amazingly easy.

The spaces in volume name issues has been mentioned several times throughout this thread.

Still, I do agree that this, and a bunch of other known problems and solutions should be put in the first post. I have no idea why this hasn't been done yet. I'm tired of the same questions and answers over and over again.

KALYWAY LEOPARD DVD 10.5.1 intel is 3.45 Gbytes

Hi Karakino,

You have the same mobo and memory as I do.

We're you able to get Leopard 10.5.1 to work yet?

Just curious.

Cheers.

FIX FOR HAVING TO USE INSTALL DVD TO BOOT FROM HARD DRIVE:

Thanks a ton for that! It may be "throughout the thread," but searching the thread yielded no results for me. The OP definitely needs to put this in the first post. It's too bad I can't maintain my Macintosh HD title though...

I've tried searching this thread, but was unable to find anything that exactly matches the problem I'm having.

My specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86Ghz

1GB DDR2-800 RAM

GeForce 7950GT (512MB)

ASUS P5NSLI motherboard

250GB SATA drive (for Windows)

150GB IDE drive (for Leopard)

I'm able to boot the install DVD properly (after entering "-v -x cpus=1"), but I'm having trouble with my HDD. If I format it as MBR, then when I try to install Leopard it says it is "unable to install some files" to my HDD. If I try to format it as GUID, it says that it is creating a partition but it does nothing. When I've selected "erase" instead of "partition," the same thing happens except it says "preparing to erase" and the cursor locks up.

Why is everyone ignoring this?

la-li-lu-le-lo, have you tryed re-burning the dvd again? If that doesnt work you may need to re-download. Other then that Im not too sure what to suggest.

Any one have any luck getting past the "Keyboard loop" when starting the machine with "-x cpus=1". I know im not supposed to use the -x flag, but my box seems to only boot up with it, if i dont use the -x flag it will either hang or it will stop at the grey apple logo screen and show me the "hold down the power button to..." screen.

I haven't tried that yet. Rather than waste a DVD, though, I'd rather just try to verify the disc. Is there some way to do that without installing it?

Ok here is my problem, the disk would boot, I would set "-v -x cpus=1" It might have also been this "-v -f cpus=1" because I tried that too, and the farthest I've gotten is to this screen right after it finished loading kexts.

dscf3023bw3.jpg

After that it would hang and keep filling with "Still waiting for root device" messages.

My system is such:

CPU: Q6600 G0

MB: MSI P35 Neo-F

Video Card: XFX 8800 GTX

Ram: 2GB DDR2 (I'm not sure on the speed of the ram.)

Hard Drive 1: 80GB SATA-II drive (For Windows)

Hard Drive 2: 500GB SATA Drive (For Data)

Hard Drive 3: 160GB SATA drive (For Leopard)(This shows up as a device in Vista, but doesn't show up as a Hard Drive in My Computer

Both of my Disk Drives are IDE

I tried the disk out on a different computer (An HP Labtop) and it worked up until the last minute of the install when it said that it couldn't be installed on the computer, I didn't have time to try it again, I will try it again tomorrow and will burn a second disk just in case.

If there is any more info that you need do not hesitate to ask, I appreciate any help that can be given, as I am very new to this.

Hello all, thanks for all the info! Its great. Currently Running 10.4.8 Jas, and its stable as heck. use it everyday. long story short, i want to try leo, i got this install, i have a spare HD, so i tried to install. It seems to go well until its about to finish the install, it seems to get stuck at ''about a minute' i left it there for about 1 hour, and it didnt go anywere, i assumed it hung, so i went back to my 10.4.8. is this normal? to take that long to install? i read through most of the post on this thread and didnt see anything like that. btw i chose the 'not mbr' specs are on mu sig../

thanks!

I had that problem when I forgot to hit the customize button during install and choose both vanilla kernel things. and then the correct efi_guid/mbr type that matched the type of partition I created. try making sure you do that

Leo works perfectly on your mobo. you have the b0 error , because you have installed Efi_guid on a MBR partitionned Disk. All you have to do is to Reinstall.

When you are in Diskutil , redo your partition in GUID/GPT mode (to choose the Guid mode click the button "Options.." in the bottom).

After that quit Diskutil , continue install, and choose :

-Vanilla_Kernel

-Vanilla_ACPI_fix

-NAtit_geforce or NVinject (i do not know which is the best for the 6800).

-ALC883(DS3) . if your DS3 got this sound chipset. i've heard about a new revision of this mobo with a different sound chip.

-EFI_guid

Your install should work perfectly.Don't forget to configure correctly your bios too (NX must be Enabled)

ok....I'll try that

but what do u mean configure my BIOS?what's NX?

NOO !!! i have answered to you ! this is not your problems !

@all

In Kalyway the "B0 error" is not due to an Active partition problem !It is only the result that you have installed the wrong EFI on the wrong partition table !

haha...sorry..I havent read your post at that time.... :P

to patch windows to work with ahci is a 10 minutes job if you do have the files for it ;)

really?how?

Hey everyone....

So I've been reading through page after page after page of posts on this thread. crazy how many there is. I've been trying to get this running on my system for a few days now and I think I might actually have success .. or close to it... so close I can smell it.. :)...Here's my system

Core2Duo E6850

MSI P35 Neo2 FR

2 GB Corsair

3 WD 36GB Raptors

Geforce 6600 GT

I have my bios settings as close as I can get them from whats documented about P35 chipped Asus and Gigabyte boards listed throughout this thread and can launch into the setup no problem. Here's where I was getting stuck for the longest time, it would boot into the setup and be able to format my drive as guid, create a raid if i want etc ... but when it actually went to copy the files i couldn't get it to complete. it would always report failure on random files. Checking the install log it would be usually when it would attemp an extract, but would be random what file it was trying to extract. I read a post about someone else with my motherboard, a different thread yesturday (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=79116&hl=neo2) saying to use -f and cpus=1.

Logic would say cpus=1 only uses one core of the processor? ...and what is -f?

So i tried the setup again last night using these switches, (very basic setup, no raid, only installed efi out of options) and it worked!!... well sorta. When I start the computer it just sits there doing nothing... won't boot. It's as thought he bootloader isn't kicking in to launch osx. So I popped in the setup disc again, F8 at the prompt and entered "rd=disk0s3 cpus=1 -f -v" and it booted up to the first time booting up account setup thing and then to my desktop. Onboard lan was working but thats about it (but i didn't select any other drivers in the setup so that was to be expected).

What do i need to do to get osx to launch when the computer is turned on?...

It was getting late last night but wanted to get it installed the way i wanted and utilize my hardware, so booted back into the setup this time using the same switches as above with the addition of the vanilla switch. setup launched no problem, went into disk util and created a stripe raid of my 3 disks and continued the install.

Everything seemed to work, install finished successfully but again, no osx loading after the reboot. So I attempted the same procedure as before but this time using disk3s0 (checked in the terminal in the setup to see which HFS number (s#) for my raid disk was when i ran the command "diskutil list".

It doesn't boot however, it just gets a post saying "waiting for .... " and never does come up.

Does osx just use software raid?... I had the raid setup on the actual controller before but launching into the setup just shows my individual disks.... seems a little odd that it would only use software raid... or is it just the lack of raid driver for the controller?....

I'm going to try it again tonight and just install it to one disk and maybe raid the other two together for storage space. Dune and everyone else, ... some inside into what those two switches are, and how i can get efi actually launching the OS would be much appreciated...

I´ve read somewhere in the posts, that it (maybe) could help, when you format the disk, to let disk utility write "0" on it, just to delete any boot entry´s in the first 512 bytes of the disk. I´ve had the same problem on a celeron machine and do so. But I used the same install disk on an other machine, so I know the disk os okay. Than I format the disk with the gparted live cd and it works. Hope that helps.

thanks,

but from what i understad, is that guid is if you install on a black hardrive and mbr if you install on a partition. im installing on a blank hardrive. correct me if im wrong. ;) and i choose both vanilla things btw

Hey,

Everything worked great, I got a popup about needing to enable my wifi card on my p5k in network but when I try this it tells me it can't connect and appears to think it's a modem? This is the only thing now working for me... Sound worked great installed G80 installer so got my 8800gts up and running as well, kinda nice not having issues like I did with previous versions of os x I tried!

Great job!

Thanks.
