It installed great on my custom pc, but I can't get it to work on my brothers dell. Its a few years old, dimension 4550, it keeps rebooting before it even gets to the install screen. Is it because the motherboard doesn't have an ahci option? Lol its problems like this that made me buy a 24" iMac a few months ago!

Excuse me for being a noob on this, but how do u replace kexthelper? I've been reinstalling leopard over n over tryiing to get my lan to work, everytime I checked both vanilla options during installation, I have this keyboard bug... And btw, am I suppose to check the network driver or not, root2's example doesnt check it, but the description said it support p5w... I am really confused... I just want my lan to work!! grrrr!!!

I said to use kexthelper for replacing old kext by new kext.

And yes the p5w works perfectly with this release, this message is written on it.

Just a tip : i see you have a ps2 keyboard, when you install check vanilla_kernel only in vanilla section(to avoid your problems),check also AtYinject for your gfx card, ALC882 and wifi(you can check it , it is the Asus WifiAP drivers for P5W, P5K).

When install is finished , in Application folder you will find an utility called kexthelper. With this application you can replace old kext from the system by a new one. download the AppleIntelACPIPlatform.kext with the link i gave some posts before.unzip the archive

Drag an drop the new vanilla acpi kext just downloaded in the window of kexthelper. Insert your password and click EASY Install.

Kexthelper will tell you to reboot.do it

After reboot, go to disk util and make a repair permission on your system.

That's all

I bet it's your video card, my E1505 uses the GMA950. Even if you do get it to boot, both cores don't work and as far as I know there's no fix.

no AHCi is not the cause. Try to press F8 at the darwin bootloader.

Then try this options:

-legacy

-r

Everything works fine here after many days of reading and testing.......

just follow the instruction and use the right hardware.

Kalyway leopard works really smoothly ......just like real "Macintoshi" (or MAC PRO)

Perhaps I can describe my symptoms and someone will have an idea of whats going on.

Trying to install kals on a Asus P5K-VM with a Q6600 and 2GB RAM. AHCI mode just brings me to a grey screen with the STOP symbol but if I go to IDE mode I can run the installer. Using diskutil I setup the drive for one partition using guid and the coresponding EFI, Then I select Vanilla and NVinject, I use the 883 audio driver as thats whats on my motherboard.

I can then boot into leopard without any kernel panics and get to a window manager with a cursor (Arrow) but thats it, the screen stays black after that. the first couple of times I boot like this I can move the cursor around and its a spinning color wheel. by the third or fourth time its just an arrow up on the screen and it doesn't move anymore.

I checked all the BIOS settings I can, tried booting with -legacy -r but nothing is getting me past this black screen.

Any help?

Asus P5K-VM

Q6600 4 core cpu

2 GB Corsair RAM

Nvidia EVGA 7900 GTO

SATA WD 36GB Raptor

SATA Sony DVD-R

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response dune. I tried the -legacy -r inputs, and it still reboots after a few minutes of loading on the Darwin screen. The last line says something about Efi bios yadda yadda but it disappears too fast to read it all. Again thanks for this release and your hardwork.

hi Dune , I tried several times to install kalyway to my new pc but no success. Here is my specs and situation:

C2D 6550

Giga P35 DS4 AHCI enabled

XFX 7300GT

250G Seagate SATA HD & Pioneer SATA DVD burner

I booted into Kalyway DVD and first format the HD as GUID, then manually input the PC EFI V8 commands and fdisk command to make the partition active, then continue to install. I only selected Vanilla Kernel and NVinject driver. After finished, it rebooted and always stuck at "verifying DMI Pool Data...." Please give me some advice what the problem it might be ??

I noticed that some people with P35 DS4 mobos succeeded with Kalyway DVD but they disabled AHCI. So should I disabled it too?? Is it necessary to make the partiton active manually? (the SATA HD shows as an external drive when AHCI enabled so I guess I should make the partition active manually)

Many thanks for any help.

PROBLEM SOLVED. The reason is that I followed a wrong guide to install EFI by i_am...me :( The right one is here

Many thanks to Kalyway and all people helped me here.

Yay! Success!

Got this installed w/ the built-in EFI 8 install and only NEEDED an ALC883 audio installer to get audio working. Then got the NVinject 0.2.0 and 10.5.2 kexts/OpenGL.framework and have a fully functional 8600GT via DVI.

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 (v1.0)

CPU: Core 2 Duo 6400 @ 2.13GHz

RAM: 2GB PC-5400 DDR2

VIDEO: EVGA GeForce 8600GT 256MB PCIe

HD: Seagate 500GB SATA-II (at least the HD that it's on)

In order not to fuss around w/ bootloaders for Windows/Hackintosh booting, I just made the Leopard partition the 1st partition on a different HD than the Windows bootloader and use the BIOS boot menu to choose what HD to boot from. A few times, I've had to boot w/ -f or the system restarts before displaying anything past the Starting Darwin text, but I THINK that's resolved now (or at least FOR now).

Has anyone had any odd freezes, though, with this install? Once I had Finder freeze trying to eject a disc and another time I had Finder freeze just trying to choose an avatar for Microsoft Messenger. It's also frozen a few times opening the Displays control panel (which could be the NVinject stuff alone).

If anyone's curious, here are my Xbench results:

Hi, i tried today to install Kalyway release but at the message "about 1 minute" it stopped.

I waited for about 1 hour to see something new but nothing so i pushed reset.

Back on Windows (i choose EFI-MBR customization as the vanilla kernel, the NVIDIA drivers for desktop and AudioHDA882) now accessing with MacDrive the partition of Leopard installation in root directory (with nearly all others system files) there is a text file macinstall.log with inside: "Could not write boot record to disk !". I have 2 IDE HD disk0 and disk 1 and a SATA HD (disk2) with some partition (the one i choose for Leopard is third, so disk2s2, with Windows XP on first and a empty partition the second, then a extended partition with Vista, linux swap and Ubuntu logical partitions). I use grub from the ubuntu partition to boot.

Someone can tell me what i was wrong?

Configuration is: P5LD2-VM, NVIDIA 7600 GT, Core 2 Duo Processor and DVD-RW SATA.

Thank you

Ok, after many hours of trying and solving problems I'm online with my new HackMac. ;)

What I've done:

I have two partitions on my harddrive that is MBR.

So, one partition for Mac and one for Win. MBR bcause its easier to install Win on the same disk with Mac.

Evi_v8_mbr runs... Vanilla Kernel isn't possible for me bcause I've got only a Pentium 4 :)

But everything is working...

ALC880 (works! after many hours of finding and the right driver)

Natit for GForce 6200TC works

My Question is, if there is an update in future (10.5.2 e.g.) what shell i do then?

I've got no vanilla, but efi_v8...

Nice Build

For p5k-se I1ve found non-working ps/2 keyboard driver

So If U have trouble with it on your system - try my drivers for Leopard from signature

most problems from build

- guid version by default have to be!

thx dune for your prompt response, I did everything u said but I am still having trouble with the ethernet, my cable is not even detected in the network menu and the wireless obviously see my signal but it only connects for like 5 sec and stopped... I installed the network driver from the dvd and I am using a cable with a linksys wireless router btw...special thx to kaly for making this possible :)
another tip: got to the prefs menu --> network

clear all "Ethernet" entries in the left(with - ). Apply

Now add again your ethernet(with + ).Repeat this for the three Ethernet in the lister.

And Voila !

Nice BuildFor p5k-se I1ve found non-working ps/2 keyboard driverSo If U have trouble with it on your system - try my drivers for Leopard from signature

I already made an update for that see post 627 but thx anyway

hi dune31!

as you helped so many guys in this thread, i thought you can maybe help me.

i suffer the "blinking cursor"-problem. I know that you posted a solution in post 469 but this solution will kill my existing partitions (data and win xp) and that sucks as I want to set up a dual-boot on my system.

is there any other possibility to solve my problem?

thanks in advance
