Mate, I didnt use guid as i gave 30g fully to mac .. so that is my second primary HD. and do i have to format with HFS+ journaled where it says that so that i can re installa gain.. sorry to give you trouble

Yes, needs to be HFS+ journaled, so you'll probably have to install again. whichever partition map you use (guid/mbr) you need to choose the corresponding package in the installer ( i'm a bit unclear about if you are trying to install on a partition on a drive you already use or on a separate 30GB drive - if it's just a partition that might cause problems if the partition map is not correct (i've no idea what a windows drive would use - not formated a windows drive since the days of windows 95 :help: ) maybe someone else can offer some advice on that point)

ok can any1 confirm this and give me a better solution?

also i have made a few more attempts since then - i have made the leo part on the hdd active via fdisk (booting thru the install dvd) and it gave me the darwin BL but when trying to boot into leo i got the "reboot loop"

so i tried -v, -s -v, -x -v and non seemd to work and the list ran so fast i wasnt able to get the last line b4 the restart

so i tried w/o any drivers guid_efi and vanilla and the same thing

so i tried tweeking the bios like it was said here by dune and made all the changes

WELL I WANT TO SUMMARIZE THINGS:

BIOS SETTINGS ARE VERY IMPORTANT ! SO THIS IS A BIOS SETTING TEMPLATE :

To your CPU CONFIGURATION section :

MAX CPUID VALUE Limit (or similar) : Disabled

Vanderpool or virtualization : Disabled

CPU TM Function : Enabled

Excecute Disable Bit (or called NX or XD on some mobos) : Enabled (the most important, if not enabled the result is reboot loop with vanilla kernel)

To your POWER section :

ACPI 2.0 Support : Enabled

ACPI APIC : Enabled

i also tried with XD: disabled as stated on http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?...p;sk=t&sd=a (found by digifreak)

and to no avail

so any help would be priceless here since im a real noob

so i tried with MBR_efi and vanilla with no drivers - and the same thing got to me with this install

incoma,

I have the badaxe2 motherboard, and have ben having problems with EFI & GUID. It seems that the badaxe board doesent easily allow the Drive to become active or install EFI 8.

Read this thread by BJMoose. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=74705&st=0

It's currenty driving me crazy.

Hello,

Can anybody with knowledge answer to that simple question:

How to choose guid or mbr?

Yes it seems basic and there are a lot of posts discussing with this issue, but none is 100% clear.

I've been searching for hours now in the forum and elsewhere.

I understand and it's clearly written in the kalyway 10.5.1 *.rtf file that:

I can choose guid or mbr in diskutility and then boot_guid or boot_mbr in the custom install according to the partition map I have choosen.

OK but wich one to choose, according to what criteria?

I have not yet started OS X install.

I have a one disk only laptop running XP & Ubuntu with grub as bootloader.

I want too keep grub as bootloader, one partition is ready to receive Os X.

I know how to use grub and are ready to add an entry for OS X in menu.lst

As far I as I understand if I choose MBR then OS X will install its own bootloader in the mbr (the first 512 bytes of the disk) and if I choose GUID then the OS X bootloader will be installed in the OS X partition (not the disk).

Is this correct?

If it is then I'm going to choose GUID...

Is there any advantage too choose GUID? I read somewhere GUID is more modern and aftrwards you can change your partition plan? Any other technical features?

What about using a logical (not a primary) partition?

Thanks in advance

Let's not mention the direct name of your sources in the future. We don't want to get the forum in trouble. :rolleyes:

Sounds like your download was corrupted, common with large torrents. I would run it through your client and verify or re-check the file and let it download all missing pieces. Also, Kalyway 10.5.1 is available in ISO format as well with no compression. Its about a gig larger, but less problematic.

I get to the language screen, then select disk to install on. I then launch disk utility to partition my 320Go SATA drive. I set up a 20Gb partition (test installs) and a 300Gb partition. It hangs when formatting. I can't get past this part.

Any ideas?

Mac OS X : How to Set the MAc Address During Startup

Follow these steps to create a script that sets the MAC Address each time the computer restarts:

1. Open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/).

2. Type: cd /Library

3. Press Return.

4. Type: mkdir StartupItems

5. Press Return. (If you encounter an error, continue to step 6.)

6. Type: cd StartupItems

7. Press Return.

8. Type: mkdir MACADD

9. Press Return.

10. Type: cd MACADD

11. Press Return.

12. Type: pico MACADD

13. Press Return.

14. In the pico editor, paste in the following text.

Begin copying below this line.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#!/bin/sh

. /etc/rc.common

##

# Configure a network interface MAC Address setting

##

#

# This script will set the MAC Address setting for the specified interface(s)

#

# The name of the interface (ex. en0) must be edited to match the interface

# to which the MACADD setting should be applied

#

##

StartService ()

{

ConsoleMessage "Configuring MACADD"

### uncomment lines and change the value following 'MACADD' as appropriate mac address

if [ "${MACADD:=-NO-}" = "-YES-" ]; then

# /sbin/ifconfig en0 lladdr xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

# /sbin/ifconfig en1 lladdr xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

fi

}

StopService ()

{

return 0

}

RestartService ()

{

return 0

}

RunService "$1"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

End copying above this line.

15. Uncomment the /sbin/ifconfig line(s) to set the MACADD for a particular interface.

Note: Removing the number sign (#) from the beginning of a line uncomments it. Typically, en0 is the interface name for the Built-in Ethernet port and en1 is interface name for the AirPort Card. This is not always the case, though. To confirm that a network port is associated with a particular interface name, open the Network Utility (/Applications/Utilities/), and click the Info tab.

16. When you have finished customizing the file, save it (press Control-O), press Return, and exit pico (press Control-X).

17. Type: chmod 755 MACADD

18. Press Return.

19. Type: pico StartupParameters.plist

20. Press Return.

21. In the pico editor paste in the following text.

Begin copying below this line.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Description</key>

<string>Can set MACADD</string>

<key>OrderPreference</key>

<string>None</string>

<key>Provides</key>

<array>

<string>MACADD</string>

</array>

<key>Requires</key>

<array>

<string>Network Configuration</string>

</array>

</dict>

</plist>

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

End copying above this line.

22. When you have finished customizing the file, save it (Control-O), press Return, and exit pico (Control-X).

23. Type: chmod 755 StartupParameters.plist

24. Press Return.

25. Type: sudo pico /etc/hostconfig

26. When prompted, enter your password.

27. Press Return.

28. In the pico editor, add this line at the bottom:

MACADD=-YES-

29. Save it (Control-O), press Return, and exit pico (Control-X).

When you restart the computer, MACADD is set for the interface that you specified.

Notes

1. The MACADD will be reset after changing a Location, waking the computer from sleep, or changing the state of the network interface. To use the script again without having to restart, enter the following command:

sudo SystemStarter start MACADD

2. If you experience any issues or wish to not set MACADD during startup, you can turn off the new script by changing the MACADD line in /etc/hostconfig to:

MACADD=-NO-

I just finished last night getting my IBM "ThinkBook" T40 with Kalyway 10.5.1 and then updated to 10.5.2.

I noticed, like others, the mysterious four minute pause during the boot process since updating to 10.5.2. I thought perhaps it was something due to my older hardware and a new incompatibility, but I see that this is being discussed over at Apple Discussions as well, so it may very well be a bug in 10.5.2.

Nonetheless, I now have an environment up and running to start playing with the iPhone SDK. ;)

Couple of questions:

1. Vanilla Kernal is what exactly?

2. I want to keep my Windows on C:\ , should I use guid or mbr?

3. If I do use mbr, (from the whole CAUTION) When it says "...but if you have no other choice than installing Leo on a disk where windows is already installed, you should be aware of that the installer will active the leo partition, so to be able to boot again on your windows.

4. Where can I get a bootloader?

Many Thanks,

I've been reading through this thread. I have iATKOS.r3 X5.1 installed on 2 partions but get a kernel panic when updating to X5.2 with graphics update. When just updating to X5.2 (Kalway combo) it won't even let me select the partition to boot from. It defaults to X5.1 partition so I can't even see what is wrong.

I attempted to install Kalway X5.1 the first time around but disk utility hung when formating partitions. I then just attempted install by formatting with no partitions and the install hangs at "3 minutes remaining". It doesn't always hang at this time but it hangs during install so I went with iATKOS.r3.

I am thinking of trying the Kalway again to have consistency with the initial install and the update.

Does anyone know why the install hangs when time gets close to completion?

Should I just keep trying until it gets all the way through installation?

I'm trying to install on the system in my sig. Has anyone successfully installed Kalway using nVidia chipsets on both the MB and GPU?
