Hey all, I just have a quick question. When I run CPU-Z on my Vaio SZ it said it supports MMX, SSE, SSE2 & SSE3.

Does this mean that I do not need to check the tick box that says SSE2 during the installation process.

Thx in advance

I have an intel core duo and I installed leopard with SSE2 and it worked fine but only realised afterwards that my processor does support SSE3.

Im thinkin whether its worth it to do another format and try installing leopard with SSE2 unticked.

Is there any way I can check in leopard with the system is actually using SSE3?

A Core Duo CPU is definitely SSE3. My problem is different and unrelated to the SSE2/SSE3 thing.

It won't make much difference for you as far as performance goes. If you have some time to kill and don't mind starting over, then give it a try. Otherwise leave it alone and just enjoy using it. Are both of your cores working?

Yup both my cores are working. I might just do another reformat tomorrow then and see how it works.

Also I wanted to ask, during the installation where it askes for the vanilla kernal and the vanilla acpi, I didnt check either of them and left them both blank but leopard still installed fine. Did it pick the vanilla kernal as default then as I didnt specify anything.

Thx for your help naddy69

So what is the sleep kernel then?

In the installtion would I have to pick both Vanilla kernel and the vanilla ACPI?

Cheers for your help

Did that - makes no difference. Neither does Max CPUID Value Limit - Execute Disable Function - Enhanced C1 Control - CPU Internal Thermal Control - Intel Speedstep tech.As I said, I have tried all the BIOS settings. Did you have to enter cpus=1 to get the DVD to boot?
If my board is anything to go by and the advice I read on this forum you need to disable Max CPU ID, Enable Execute disable Function, Disable C1 Control, Enable CPU Internal Thermal Control and disable Speedstep - I am making a large assumption in saying that that these functions work in the same way on your board as they do on mine. I also set my CPU at its standard settings and only overclocked after installation was complete then tinkered to get a stable overclock! Also make sure you are not trying to install from a IDE DVD drive attached to Jmicron. Install from an external USB DVD Drive - that's what worked for me! Or from a SATA DVD Drive - I believe that works as well. Hope you get there! Its well worth it!
So what is the sleep kernel then?In the installtion would I have to pick both Vanilla kernel and the vanilla ACPI?Cheers for your help
I have not installed the sleep kernel but I believe it is a kernel in which Sleep has been made to work by altering/patching/changing the kernel in some way. Whereas the Vanilla kernel is unaltered - it is the same kernel found on real Apple Macs. When you select this kernel the sleep function does not work correctly but you will be getting as close as possible to a real apple mac. If you install vanilla yes, you have to check both options. I would suggest you read the very first post in this thread which details what to select when you install

Ok so I managed to get kalaways rls installed but it won't bootup itself. So some1 told me i have to make it bootable. He showed me links to some commands which i have to type in the terminal. So i boot into the set up again and tried to type but keyboard not working. I have a ps2 keyboard but a usb mouse. So the mouse works but keyboard doesn't, is there a way to get the keyboard to work? or to type those commands outside of set up page? thanks

Oh ok. I've been reading through some of the earlier posts and they also say similar things.

The weird thing is, I've installed the sleep kernal for my laptop but the sleep function doesn't actually work for me. Whenever my laptop

goes to sleep I can't wake it back up. It's not a major problem though as I don't like the option and prefer it off. Subaru Highlander

So Subaru Highlander, U have the original Vanilla Kernal installed then?

I might just try it tomorrow to see how that works out 4 me as wel :)

Cheers for your help Subaru Highlander

By the way, I have a SSE3 system so should I leave out the SSE2 patch? Whats your opinion

Yeah, I know. But it's the only way I can get a working system here. I have to enter cpus=1 to get the DVD to boot. Then I have to install the SSE2 system and THEN use cpus=1 to get that to boot. Doing this I have a perfectly functioning system with USB, LAN, QE/CI video with Radeon HD 2600 PRO card, even the volume up/down buttons on my keyboard work! The fact that I have to enter cpus=1 to even get the DVD to boot tells me it's a BIOS and/or ACPI issue with my system. It's an AMI BIOS on a G33/ICH9 chipset MB, but there are several areas in the BIOS that are greyed out and non changeable - particularly the CPU speed/voltage section so I can't overclock. I'm guessing that only 1 CPU is initialized/working/available (or whatever) at boot time and need to be enabled by the OS at a later point. Vista has no problem with this, but OS X simply chokes unless I enter cpus=1.
Naddy69 - just a thought - does your board have a Raid function in the Bios? I had a slight confusion with my board when i thought I was booting using AHCI but it was actually a AHCI RAID setting - on digging further I disabled RAID and enabled only AHCI. Up till then I had a problem booting once this was addressed Iand I switched to booting from my external USB DVD Writer it worked flawlessly

My understanding is that the SSE2 patch is not needed if you have a processor with a later instruction set such as SSE3

I have all those settings already set in my BIOS, it makes no difference. There is no IDE on this MB, it is all SATA-2.

There is a SATA Mode setting, but is grayed out (non changeable) and showing RAID. However, it boots and runs fine when I use cpus=1. I currently have a fully working 10.5.1 system with full QE/CI Radeon HD 2600 Pro video with 1920 x 1200 resolution on my 24" LCD, LAN, all 10 USB ports and audio all working perfectly. The only "problem" is that it is SSE2 and only using 1 core. The SATA is detected in OS X System Profiler as "Intel ICH8-R Raid, 3.0 Gigabit speed and AHCI Version 1.20 supported". The CPU shows as "Number of Processors: 0, Total Number of Cores: 1".

It's really not a problem, since everything works and the single core has the entire 4 MB cache to work with - no sharing with the other CPU since it's not active! The system is very fast and responsive and all the software I've installed works fine. It's really more of a curiosity than a problem - I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this.

The fact that I have to enter cpus=1 to even boot the Kalyway DVD is very telling. It seems to me its a BIOS or ACPI issue. The only ACPI setting in the BIOS is to enable/disable - no mention of ACPI 2.0. If I disable ACPI and don't enter cpus=1 I get further in the boot, but it eventually hangs with "still waiting for root device".

I got it working but to get the system to boot I have to use the Cpus=1 kernal flag and the -x(safe mode) flag if not I get a kernel panic usually GeForce but often At other points I installed the SSE2 but I have not tried the SSE3 IT might work. My question is this what is it that safe mode turns of that I might be able to take out to get it working out of safe mode? I have read many of the bios settings and think that Mine is set up close to right but every-thing seems to be named differently on my comp. Aside from some bios options I'm not sure what else to change.

And thank you to both Kaly and Dune for their work.

The most Common error is:

MMM odd one! Two thoughts which you may already have explored! Do you actually have a RAID Array configured? I have seen a Bios where the RAID setting cannot be disabled until the RAID Array has been deleted. The 2nd thought is with regard the greyed out items in your Bios. Is there a keystroke sequence for enabling them in your Bios?

E.G. On the Bios of my GA-P35-DS4 I press <del> during POST to enter the Bios and then can press <Ctrl> + <F1> to access some advanced options that are otherwise hidden. (Found the keystrokes in the troubleshooting section at the end of the manual).

No "Double Secret" keys in my BIOS! :D I tried a bunch and nothing changed.

There is no RAID array - I have only 1 drive in this system.

But thanks anyway for the suggestions! I think this is just a deliberately crippled BIOS in this system. But like I said, everything else works fine, just only 1 CPU is running.

Really weird! -_-

Previously my external drive w/ mac os on it would not boot. It installed successfully but it did not want to bootup. So anyways some1 had sugguested that i boot into the setup and via terminal i can change the boot info. But my keyboard doesn't {censored} work in it so I thought maybe if i take out all the hd and just install w/ the external drive mac os would installed it w/ the boot info. And to my expectation, the os installed w/ the boot info. Then i proceed to reboot after the installation. i was finally ALMOST {censored}, keyword almost, able to boot into the os.

I see that it said darwin x86 loading screen (much like when i am booting up w/ the installation dvd)but after a few seconds it just reboot itself. Now whats the matter? This {censored} sucks {censored}. OMG i am {censored} going crazy right now. I probably installed mac os more than 20 times now. This {censored} suck shiiiiiiit. sorry for my rant im just really stressed and really want this to work. Everytime I figure out something, something else has to go wrong.

Please help.

Installation works only without vanilla kernel.

My computer runs fine with cpus=1. With cpus=2 and cpus=3 it verry often it asks for restart. Somehow i got 4 cores working but it asked for restart more often (after 1 -2 minutes). It shows in system profiler:

Processor 2.4 Ghz Unknown

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 4

Is it normal (about my Unkonown Q6600)?

Does vanilla is supported on my nForce 650i SLI chipset?

What i have to do to get my Intel Core 2 QUAD fully working?

Thanks!

I just installed leopard on a whim....thought it would be smooth and easy...

my PC

Gigabyte GA 965p DS3

E6300

Winfast PX6800GS

hdd config:

1. 80GB WDC PATA Windows boot

2. 160GB Seagate SATA installed leopard here

3. 160GB seagate SATA just my personal files

4. DVDRW pioneer IDE/PATA?

I received an error at the boot of leopard after installation, it was "b0 error"

huh?oh...and so I remembered that the hdd should be in AHCI mode

but what's an AHCI?I looked up in the wiki and found that my windows will go BSOD if I changed the hdds to AHCI mode

what would you do if you were me and youre too lazy too reinstall windows?

to patch windows to work with ahci is a 10 minutes job if you do have the files for it

Hey Guys,

thanks for this great release! Good to see someone takes so much effort for the community...

I just installed it, used GUID partition and did all BIOS settings as recommended.

It Boots, the Apple shows up und the little circle turns but then it hangs with a wired grafik error (see pic attached).

I suppose it might be a driver problem it my readeon 2900pro.

I found something regarding this card: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=69605

But how can I proceed now without GUI? I am quite new to the terminal and I have no Idea how to do all that.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thank you!

Best

Lion

if your p4 is prescott then it is sse3 !! are you sure that it is sse2 ?

Hi, kaly!!

I have this configuration con my PC:

Processors Information

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Processor 1 (ID = 0)

Number of cores 1

Number of threads 2 (max 2)

Name Intel Pentium 4

Codename Prescott

Specification Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz

Package Socket 478 mPGA (platform ID = 2h)

CPUID F.3.3

Extended CPUID F.3

Core Stepping C0

Technology 90 nm

Core Speed 3005.7 MHz (15.0 x 200.4 MHz)

Rated Bus speed 801.5 MHz

Stock frequency 3000 MHz

Instructions sets MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3

L1 Data cache 16 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size

Trace cache 12 Kuops, 8-way set associative

L2 cache 1024 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size

FID/VID Control no

Features

After installation process, with SSE2 selected, NATIT_nvidia (for nvidia GeForce 6200) selected and a MBR partition on a entire HD without Windows in it, it reboots but it remains still, and the PC LED also remains still on. If I turn VANILLA on, installation fails, so I kept it off!

Why?

I tried several time to install changing options, Vanilla, disabling SSE2 or with GUID partition instead MBR.. but.. nothing changes..

The installation completes without error only on MBR partition, not on GUID partition.. why??? but after reboot the situation is the same..

I think it is something that deals with Bootloader.. but.. HELP ME, please!!!

From your sig, it looks like you need to install the SSE2, not Vanilla. Also, try to skip all the other drivers and get a "bare" install...

The Vanilla install is for Core series processors, going from what I read...

Well, I tried doing that, same result: "BasePackage failed." I also tried BrazilMac disc, but that won't even go to graphical mode, it reboots after Darwin completes loading kexts.

Guess I'm stuck with uphuck 10.4.9. All I really wanted to do was to get the new Geforce 8 drivers up and running with my 8600GTS. :(

I am also very interested in your results with the 8600 GTS. Is it an EVGA one? I'll be trying to install this, probably tomorrow, on my C2D machine with sli 8600 GTS's.
