There have been threads on this topic but there doesnt seem to have been any fixes. Giraffe Raff
For those with "blinking cursor" at boot.this is due to a damaged first sector on your HD (don't worry it isn't physical) I recomand you to erase the disk with zero(with diskutil). No need to wait to the end, just the first sector of the disk need to be erased. after that , redo your partitions whatever GUID or MBR, and reinstall. Is there another option? I don't want to lose my installation as I have put in a lot of time. Then I rebooted without the DVD in the drive and got the blinking cursor. When I boot with the DVD inside it works. There must be a way to repair the boot sector without reinstalling? Thanks for any help
cabron
very nice dvd. i got it installed here after burn this one on dvd-dl verbatim (some unsuccessful attempts with other medias) well things looks like okay i have here some minor issues like diskutil borked? cannot repair permissions from there or terminal command. Ill try again boot the leo or tiger dvd to attempt on repairing the disk permissions sometimes my mouse freeze, also the kb doesnt respond too one time when i bootup under safe mode, i think it can be something with appleps2controller.kext? i tried to fix it, but lets see what happens next. Except i have to kill the damn mdutil because its murdering the computer performance every time when spotlight is indexing the stuff. no kernel panics so far nice black dock leaving it, the rest of whole stuff works like a charm on my new SSE3 dinosaur thanks kaly and you guys
the_gael
dune - thanks very much for advice given yesterday regarding the X1950 - unfortunately I was too late and the friend I was going to get this from has already given it away to someone else. So I am going to buy another card. I am thinking of two cards and one of course is the X1950 - the other is a HD 3870 which i notice Netkas has working. Any thoughts or advice on which one to go for? here are the two I'm considering HIS ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB GDDR4 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI PCI-Express and Sapphire X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E TV Out Dual DVI Dune Once again thanks very much for the advice regarding X1950 - I went out and bought one and am absolutely delighted - installed it, downloaded Bronya's driver - rebooted and everything works!!!!!! kpeksen
Hi I have evga n680i and only sata hdds. It tried to install it to my sata hdd but when I try to erase disk it freezes so I installed kalyway 10.5.1 on my usb hdd with MBR partition and vanilla kernel, nvidia desktop drivers for my 7900gs selected and I selected EFI MBR for partitioning. Installation succesfully completed. When I restarted system, it automatically loaded win xp installed on my computer, even i tried to select from bios boot option to boot from my usb hdd it opens darwin boot loader I think and after that it writes 5-6 lines then restarts. When i boot with dvd no other boot options is displayed on the screen other than leopard dvd. So what can i do to get my leopard boot??? can anyone help??? lithium06
kpeksen - nforce chipset mobo's suck for hackintosh. i had an MSI p6n-sli n650i chipset was a pain in the ass to install hackintosh on it. and when it did work it would randomly freeze durning use and torrent downloads. so i bought an intel chipset (GA P35-DS3L) install with this dvd went great! only had to fix audio. everything else works. so i'd suggest getting a diff. mobo if you can. less headache

jdxxx
Kalyway fails at the last minute every time I try to installThats what my install log says... any help? This is a common symptom of attempting to install using a DVD drive connected to a JMicron IDE controller, commonly found on motherboards with IDE and SATA drives. For some reason, the controller cannot handle the last disk initiation steps on the install process. Look at the specifications on your Motherboard, and see if you have a Jmicron IDE controller. If this is the case, you must use a SATA DVD drive hooked to your SATA port (not an IDE DVD drive) OR hook the IDE DVD up through a USB port. My solution was to hook the DVD drive up to a external USB hard drive interface (the type of USB enclosure used for external IDE hard drives will work to temporarily hook up a DVD -- just plug it in to the IDE and power connectors). Boot and Install from the the DVD connected to a USB port. Worked for me.
MSong79
Can you guys please help me out with few of these questions? My computer is Sony Vaio Laptop SZ240. I installed Kalyway 10.5.1 on GUID with EFIv8. Did not select the Vanilla Kernel and ACPI or something. Everything works great except WIFI which I don't really care. Well, as far as I know, if I press F8 during boot up and type "-vanilla," OSX will use the vanilla kernel. Am I correct? But is there any way to actually check what kernel am I using? (other than trying to update through Apple.com) Also, my CPU temperature is at 46C when idle. Not really high, but the fan is still running little faster than it was in Windows OS. So, I was just wondering if there is any ways to change the fan speed within OS by tweaking some kext file. (such as AppleFan.kext or AppleBlower.kext) CPU temperature is same regardless of what kernel I use. (either I let the system boot normally or type -vanilla) I am willing to take risk and let the CPU temp go as high as 65C~70C and run the fan at its full speed only when necessary. There is no AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext in this release, and I even tried to remove the AppleCPUThermo.kext but it does not change anything. Has anyone been able to somehow quite down the fan noise in Laptops? Thanks~
HarryCau
@jdxxx I'm not sure.... My mobo is a P5W DH deluxe with jmicron. My first perfect install was with a IDE dvd (master) and a IDE DD (slave). after that I plug a internal SATA DD for a new install. Everythings works fine ! froveda
Hi! Thanks for these release!!! I have boot problems. First, I install leopard and format the partition. But I has problems trying to boot, after the pc boots, it didn't show me the boot options, and I tried everything to make it work (bootfix patch, etc). Then I read that installing tiger, reformatting the partition, and then installing leopard over tiger partition, but without reformatting it, can solve my problem. That solution really solve the boot options problems, but another problem came when I start leopard. It didn't ask me for new user, keyboard, etc. It just show me the login window, I think it was because I install it over the tiger patition without reformatting it. The problem is that i can login into leopard. Any password that I type was incorrect. And I can't enter into the system, even with root. Can anyone helps me?? Thanks in advance!! And sorry for my bad english, I'm from Argentina
Detosx
Hi Dune31, big thanks for your industry! I can only boot into the desktop if I select cpus=1 I have an Acer Extensa 5620 laptop with Core 2 Duo and GMA X3100. I have no such problems with iATKOS and wonder if there is a workaround? I went with EFI-MBR because I have a Vista partition. Bios adjustment is minimal. Any help from any quarter very welcome.

And sorry for my bad english, I'm from Argentina About your Password-Problem: Forget it! I tried the Update 2 times and 2 times this Password happens. This problem is known by apple. I found a document about this on the apple site. Apple says that in rare cases this could happens. But in our rare hackintosh case, I think, its the rule. In the document are ways to fix it, but not an easy one. I tried the first - without success. If you have a lot of time and good nerves - give it a try, otherwise forget it. Amuso
Experiences so far... Awesome! However, I noticed a problem with both Kalyway and Brazilmac... Actually maybe a Leopard problem in general. I have the latest updates and software of everything on this Leopard baby, but my iTunes seems to break the CD/DVD driver or something. In iTunes when I import a CD to MP3s it can work for 10-15 CDs, and then suddenly the CD/DVD-drive is gone. It might even happend after the 1st CD imported. The only way to get the drive back is to restart the machine. The CD/DVD-drives Ive tested are NEC ND-3520 DVD-writer and a LiteOn CD-drive (brand new). Both were connected to the same IDE1-bus as master or slave (one drive at a time). I tried the same on the HP dv1410 laptop and there also the internal drive disappears after a few imports. So it seems like some sort of bug. The desktop machine uses MBR, and the laptop PC_EFI and GUID. Anyone experienced this? Could it be my hardware/controller? It worked superbly in Tiger (10.4.8) for months on the same hardware... Don't know if it could be related to the occasional "hangs". Especially during very large (several 100s MB) file transfers the machine can hang for 10-15 seconds and then resume as nothing happened.
