Oh i know what you mean with that sentence.. but don't know what you EFI is.. :$

Then my only question is.. How can i know that my vaio supports that 'Vanilla'?

Boot from DVD, press F8, enter vanilla + CR

If install process runs well your system supports vanilla.

This, i dont realy know what you mean,

< "In this case don't forget to check the appropriate setting below (EFI? don't remember) also MBR." >

What is that EFI? because my desktop cant boot into the installation program en gives an error on EFI.

and what i have to do with it?

EFI option enables emulation of orginal mac's BIOS system - if you are even more near to the real mac.

I meant if you chose MBR which you must (as already mentioned) you have to select efi for mbr - this is a common source of error as the checkmark is already set to GUID (here I see still possibility for improvements for the next release :( )

GA-P35-DS3L , Kalyway Leo. Everything works. 7600gt vid, 3 Seagate SATA 3.0 HD's, SATA DVD burner and IDE DVD burner, optical sound output, triple boot Leo, XP, Vista 1 OS on each HD. I might get a MAC keyboard just for the fun of it. My hats off to Kalyway for the great release!!!!

Did you use the vanilla kernel and GUID? I can't get audio, restart, shut down, or sleep to work. I haven't yet tried the audio patch available here on the forum, but I haven't found a solution for the other problems and I've done searches. Is it possible that my 6800gs is to blame?

Update: audio works with HDA ICH9 ALC888, Apple HDA Patcher 1.2, and alc888.txt. All three are available in the forum. Shutdown, sleep, and reboot are still problems. Turning on the 4 second delay (instead of Instant Off) in BIOS causes a kernel panic.

Edit: Used 3rd party patches and got audio working (including digital) and video acceleration (NVinject 0.2.1 with manual kext editing)! Now only shutdown/reboot/sleep remain issues.

I have an Asus P5K-E motherboard and have successfully installed Leopard using this release. I am having a few problems with sleep and shutdown though and would like to know if anyone else is having them or have resolved them.

The computer sleeps fine but when it wakes up the screen isn't displayed properly. I can only see the top left quarter and the rest just is just a random flickering mess.

Luckily though I am able to see the apple menu and can cleanly reboot. Would this have anything to do with the graphics card? I have 2600 XT using Triakis drivers.

Also, when I try to shutdown the computer the fans will not switch off. As far as I can tell, the OS has shutdown and everything else has turned off including the case lights. The computer can restart fine though, its just when I want to shutdown and switch off. When I have to turn it off, I have to hold down the power button manually and I am paranoid that this isn't doing it any good.

Other than that, the system is quite fast and stable.

Anyone else have these problems?

Hello Forum,

I am a newbie and reader for some weeks here.

at first: great community and many many thanx to kal! :-)

my problem:

Geforce 7300 / Kalway 10.5.1 / P5B / Natit / Display driver works only in save mode

I installed Kalman Leo 10.5.1 on my System with a XFX Geforce 7300 GT in hope it would work out of the box. It is not the original apple card, but a very similar PC card with 2 x DVI + s-vhs but with 512 MByte Memory.

The card does not work full on first boot (only mirrored screen @1024, mirroring is hardwired within the card I guess). On display preferences there is nothing to change, only 1024x768.

So installed the NATIT_gfnvidea from the Kalway CD -> reboot ->get a black screen with a white mouse cursor, the cursor can be moved on both screens (dual screen works)! But absolutely nothing to see except for his cursor.

Next reboot in -x / save mode, login and now there is a perfect dual display with desktop and all settings !!

Reboot in normal mode again -> black.

Then I tried another driver: NVINJECT_gfnvidea with exact the same result: normal mode black + cursor, save mode -> everything perfect.

Could anybody help me with that ? How to get It also working in normal mode ?

Here is the Setup:

Asus P5B Deluxe with core2duo E4400 @3.2 GHz

XFX Geforce 7300 GT, DVI connected to 2 x Sony 1280 TFT

HD Samsung 160 GByte IDE, 2 partitions

2 Gigabytes RAM

The OSX is fresh installed with no additional drivers except for the both display drivers

the Kalway install options was vanilla kernel = on/on and boot-mbr. no further drivers.

I tried also with vanilla = off, but exactly the same behaviour.

thanks in advance for help! :-)

add 1: I tried the actual Nvidia Natit installer (guess 1.0) and all remains the same

add 2: I replaced the Nvidia by an ATI 1550 card and now normal booting in default is possible (1024, single screen)

hello again,

--update-- booted in -x safe mode succesfully, no sound, no graphic acceleration (Natit drivers this time), network, ok, first time online with leopard. 7950GT shows as 7950GT with 256MB not 512MB, how this can be fixed?--

tried to instal kalyway "official" distro with MD5 crosschecked, ended up with the same problem as iATKOS distro for which i blame my GPU, XFX 7950GT 512MB:

kalyway installation detected all my SATA drives in IDE mode which was cool, installed properly, rebooted properly, booted properly and black-screen paused right before the animated leopard intro, with the spinning busy cursor on and moveable. moreover if time passes by the screen goes off and if you move the mouse turns back on, indicating an otherwise running os.

same installation -iATKOS as well- on same motherboard succeeds with an XFX 7900GS 256MB.

Tried both Natit and NVinject drivers with same results, although XFX 7950GT 512MB is indicated as working with NVinject in 10.5.1 compatibility charts.

Should i try with non-vanilla kernel, no vga drivers or something else?

i would appreciate a reply, thank you in advance.

Hi there, Im just about to install this kalyway 10.5.1 dvd and am wondering what to do about my xfx 7300gt 256mb graphics card.

When im installing should i choose nvinject ir natit(or both)?

Ive also read :

http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,55.0.html

I take it that pc efi 8.0 should allow us not to bother with either of these(natit/nvinject) but i take it i have to go ahead and install nvinject or natit then when everything is working sort out the efi gfx strings, then delete the natit or nvinject kexts?

Hope someone can clarify?

Thanks

Will

Hmmm

Okay i will try this in evening.

But i try to install it 6 times...

Cunclusion

1. When I press any key to start installation, darwin loading and I got 2 error messege.... Okay no problem let's do it again...

2. After booting press F8... Entering into the boot menü and I selected the first option. -v and press enter.

This time I get onto the install menu and I can erase my hard disk, and starting installation, but it hangs at about 95%... and I got an error message

My Config

Mobo: ASUS P4P800E Deluxe

Intel P4 @ 3.0 GHz HT

1 Gb RAM

IDE 1 : 40 Gb maxtor HDD (ATA)

IDE 2 : Master 250 GB Samsung HDD (ATA)

IDE 2 : Slave ASUS DVD RW (ATA)

VGA: Leadtek Geforce 6600 GT/TDH (AGP)

My setup is exactly the same, except I got 2Gb of Ram, 3 HD's and Pioneer 106D DVD oas slave. VGA is Geforce 6600 GT AGP 128Mb

I am curious if this will work. I have read that with this release you still need to get the ethornet patch that was needed for tiger too.

Sound (onboard) is supposed to be working with this release albeit with the sound coming out of the wrong socket (the blue one that is normally used for quadruple or more speaker setups)

Kalyway Leo 10.5.1 DVD install + Sapphire ATi X1600 Pro PCi-E 256mb - anyone made it work?

I have tried several different methods to get this to work including editing kext files to include the ID of my card but I just can't get it to work properly.

I can install using the Kalyway DVD by not selecting any video package and I end up with 1024 x 768 on both my displays (mirror of each other). What I would like is to be able to use higher resolutions and set up dual display - I have seen on this thread and elsewhere that many say the X1600 will only support analog and that the DVI will not work. However i can find no definitive answer on this.

I have searched and cannot find either a solution that will deliver what I am looking for or advice that tells me to abandon the X1600 and use something else.

Maybe it is out there and I haven't looked hard enough but if anyone has info I would be most grateful to hear about it.

My system is

kalyway DVD install - vanilla on MBR

GA-P35-DS4

Quad Core Q6600 running at 3.2Ghz

4GB RAM Corsair 800mhz

4 x SATA II HDD's

Sapphire ATi X1600 Pro 256mb - PCi-E

thanks in advance

OK this works on my Acer 5633 laptop but not the airport wireless, not even showing up, sound and the graphics is fine but no airport wireless, any ideas ? Of course the the ethernet connection is fine

My Acer (see signature) came with Intel wireless. Not compatible. Swap it out for something compatible like the Broadcom 4311 chipset.

My graphics didn't work right. Some mouse artifacts/tearing in some applications. Also there is no power management (Mac does not know it is on a laptop).

Okay. I burned the Kalyway ISO at 4x on my external USB DVD-R drive using Nero 6. I then plugged the external drive into my laptop (Intel Pentium M 758 1.5GHz LV, 533MHz FSB, SSE2 support, 1GB DDR2 RAM, Intel GMA 900 or 950 I forget :D ), and changed the boot list to put the USB drive as 1st.

I then booted from the disk, and installed using the -v command (only way it would load). I formatted my hard drive, and made 2 partitions. One was called Macintosh HD, with 30GB of space, HFS+ Journaled, and the other was LOCAL DISK, using the Windows option in Disk Utilities. I then proceeded to install, selecting SSE2, my audio drivers, and selecting MBR instead of GUID as per my partition. Leopard installed well (as per the Install Successful message it gave me), then I pressed reboot when prompted. System rebooted and showed the Apple loading screen with the logo and spinning circle, and then after a few minutes, it went to a nice pale blue screen, where it proceeded to stay. I tried re-booting, and the same result occured.

What do I need to do so that I can boot into OS X?

--Thanks a million for all of your help!!

first try to boot with the option -x to enter the save mode. If this works the installation is basically o.k. and it seems to be a driver issue.

If not systematically try re-installs with different options (vanilla on/off, without display driver and so on). Add drivers step by step.

But you have an older SSE2 only system and for me its like a wonder it works!

I've been trying to install Kaly on my Acer 7720G (C2D T7300, 2GB, ICH9) notebook, but for now I've been a little stuck with the boot loader.

Vanilla kernel doesn't work. Unable to turn on the "NX" (Execute Disable) function of the CPU in the BIOS, as all of the BIOS menu options are locked out in the 7720G's setup menu. So I'm stuck with the sleep kernel.

Install on sleep_kernel goes OK, until the first reboot... the only thing that it does after the restart is display a black screen with a blinking text-mode cursor and a LOT of HDD rattle. Nothing happens after that. Anyone else having the same issue?

I might be trying a different release or a fresh copy of the ISO soon. There might be a borked Torrent published somewhere (the archive I downloaded had two folders in it, one with an ISO image and another __MACOSX folder with a small ISO image (61kB) inside.)

I've been trying to install this release on my Asus P5B-E based computer and haven't been able to. I have my DVD drive on the JMicron JMB36x controller and what happens is when I try to boot from the DVD, it sits at a black screen with a cursor for about 5 seconds and then proceeds onto the other boot devices.

From what I've gathered, it seems that you can't boot from a drive that's on a JMicron controller right? If this is the case, is there a way to make a bootable external HD with the Kalyway image and then try to install it from the external HD? Or any other solutions? Thanks!

My torrent had the exact same items, and I get the same blinking cursor error now, or if I manage to get past it, the pale blue screen with no results! It's very frustrating!

Anyone have any tech support for us? *cough* Dune *cough* :)

try the -x option at boot. could be a drivers issue.

yes, Jmicron works well but not for install DVD. you should use an external USB DVD or a sata one.

Thanks for the quick response! :hammer: I boot using the CD (as thats the only way I don't get the blinking DOS cursor), and when asked to press any button to load Darwin/x86, I press F8, and type in -x, and then press enter. The loading message comes up, and after a minute or two, the Apple boot logo appears with the spinning grey circle-like object. 3 minutes later, I get a wonderful pale blue screen again. :thumbsup_anim: Hmm.

Any suggestions as to what to do next?

Hi everyone. I dunno what to say. I've tried over and over, but no matter what I do, I can't get a copy of Kalyway to boot from external on my hp pavillion dv9000 without using the install dvd. i've read post #792 and #469. i've googled, i've experimented, but i just can't do it. i've seen the flashing cursor, HFS+ error, cannot find HFS partition error. all the same. i don't understand, what's so powerful about the file(s) on the dvd that allow it to boot a harddrive that can't even boot itself? -.-

i can multiboot [vista main/ tiger as disk1] with uphuck 10.4.9 vonepointfour using ntldr + boot.ini + tboot from tboot.zip (i read someone had tboot.ini, but i dunno if tboot(no extension) = tboot.ini).

i think what i'd like to know is...

1.) does tboot work with kalyway leopard? if it does, do i still need to select the efi_mbr during installation?

2.) is it possible to have vista home premium on one physical hard drive and leopard on another and boot between those two? i've tried that and failed lol

3.) would this work, or am i missing a step:

load uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4.

start disk utilities and erase on whole disk only for the first few sectors or so, then skip.

goto partition and create an mbr journaled partition

install tiger to it

restart and remove tiger dvd and check to see if tboot can boot disk1 tiger

if tboot can, put in kalyway disk

go straight to customize install and choose both vanilla options, videocard, audio, network, but no efi, onto the partition you just installed tiger to

let the install finish, reboot, and cross fingers

did i leave out a step?

(edit: i just tried this, now leopard is booting from tboot! ...but it quickly reboots before i can even see what -v is talking about... )

(sorry for noob question spam)

Anyone know how to uninstall the ATI X19xx driver? I am replacing my ATI X1900XTX card with a nvidia G92 card next week, so I need to reinstall the driver. I have found the necessary kext for the G92 but I have no idea how to remove the existing ATI kext...
Hey man, you are not in windows here lol !! no need to remove your ati driver. it will be ignored that's all :P Just remove AtyInject or Natit in the extensions folder :D

it seems your problems come from the Nvidia kexts. some 7300 need to be flashed to work with them. Go to the Gotoh's Nvinject page : http://nvinject.free.fr , you will certainly obtaining help there.

EDIt: look especialy here : http://nvinject.free.fr/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4 :P

Does anyone know if I can fix *just* the boot loader or MBR from somewhere without having to wipe my entire disk over and over? The DVD installed fine but for some reason the boot loader won't install in the right place (GRUB might be in the way.)
