Giraffe Raff
Hey Guys, I was wondering if someone could give me some info on this scenario: Right now on my HD I have WinXP (Partition 0) and Uphuck 10.4.9 (Partition1). I am using the Uphuck boot loader to select the operating system. Now what I want to do is install Kalyway 10.5.1 instead of Uphuck 10.4.9, while keeping the Windows Partition intact. How would I go on doing this and make sure I don't lose my Windows Installation? Cheers Giraffe

braveskunk
Dune31, similar thing here. is there any safe way to upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5.1 without formatting and loosing data?
junior
hi dune, another question. What's the difference between Mac Journaled & Mac HFS+ when you format? Why use HFS+ and not Journaled? Just informative Tanx
braveskunk
journall is option for hfs+ provide safe way to automaticly recover broken files(eg. after power failure) i think. some sort of fingerprint of file structure. i use journalled in my computer. the thing is it is mostly recommended for servers, however it is transparent for the user.as u can see below(copied from diskutil): File System : Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Connection Bus : ATA Partition Type : Apple_HFS

It's not Ubuntu but Uphuck - so osx86 already. Anyway the info still is applicable, right? Another thing - to use Vanilla Kernel, I have to flash my BIOS with EFI using a USB memory stick (or something) ? Does this work on any motherboard? I have the AsRock 945G-DVI with SSE3. So when I intall EFI, will my WindowsXP installation still work? Are there any sources of info on all this other than this thread...it's a bit confusing whether I need EFI and how to install it, and also at install time whether to choose sse2 option kalyway or not (because I can do SSE3 even).... Thanks for any help
ixcell
A few last minute questions: My computer only supports IDE, but I have a SATA Samsung DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW drive that I connect to using a SATA to USB adaptor. Is it possible for me to install with this configuration? or do I have to use my internal (IDE) DVD-ROM drive to install after I burn the DVD? My hard drive is also IDE, and has Windows XP on it, which I want to keep. So should I just launch Disk Utility from the DVD, make a new HFS+ Journaled partition, with GUID and then install? Also, I have a Intel Pentium 4 - 2.8GHz, 533Mhz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache (Socket 478) Prescott, supports SSE2 and SSE3, so should I install the Vanilla kernel or the other one? Merci pour votre aide! Thanks for any help Sorry i misunderstood. Why do you want to flash your bios ? lol. PC_EFi is just a bridge between the PC bios and OsX EFI instructions. this one is loaded at boot up by Darwin. So yes your windows will still work and is not affected by EFI. Do not check SSE2 if your CPU is SSE3 capable. if your CPU is from Core family , check the vanilla options. If your OSx Is alone on the HD i recommand u to choose GUId partition table in diskutil and then EFI_guid in the installer.Otherwise, if you have already a windows System on your HD , choose EFI_mbr. Dune31, thanks again! This was the most helpful posting for me ever. So, I am ready to install with just the Kalyway 10.5.1 disk, right? I do not have to prepare anything myself with a USB stick first. I just pop in the Kalyway disk, choose the options you gave me above, and then I will be able to select the partition which now has Uphuck 10.4 and overwrite it with the Leopard install, leaving my Windows Partition untouched. Am I correct? Thanks again!

BadMonkey
sleep kernel is installed by default if you don't select vanilla kerne! iso size = 3.51 go I've tried installing with the KALYWAY 10.5.x DVD on two machines and both machine simply loop into reboot cycle. I followed the directions given on the DVD, chose only one driver for Audio,Video,Network and boot. Also wiped the drive before trying multiple times to install OS X 10.5.x with different settings. Am I using a bogus version of the DVD?

Bona Fide
I'm seeing 2 versions of the Kalyway DVD. One is 3.51GB and one is 4.38GB. Which do I use? I want one that can do a 10.5.1 installation from scratch.
dantl
Why I can not see my airport connection in Kalyway 10.5.1 (System Preferences->Network)? While I can see it in iAtkos 10.5.1. May be this is the reason why my wireless usb device (Linksys WUSB54GC) can not work in Kalyway but can in iAtkos. I used the same solution brought by Prasys for both version of Leo. I really like Kalyway, however cause of this tiny problem I have to change to use iAtkos. Is there any advice?
Domianos
no it is not suspicious at all. in AHCi or Raid mode , your Hardrives are "hot plug", so it is ok. you can try on ICH8, it should work. Furthermore, your hard disk have to be prepared in GUID mode with diskutil. After that for your config choose: Vanilla kernel vanilla ACPI AZALIA_out EFI_guid (be sure your partition table is guid , it is very important) For your gfx , i recommand you to go to the nvinject page.there you will find correct driver for the 8800 GTS I'm Happy!! At last - the problem with my asus p5B Deluxe, was the f****** jmicron connector. Disabling from BIOS and now i'm writing this words from safari @ mac osx 10.5.1. Full Working! Audio - Video - Etherrnet. This release is p-e-r-f-e-c-t. Thanks to Kaly - thanks to Dune. P.S. Now, with vanilla installed - can i apply all the updates from apple??
