makeitso
Hey people!!!! I just wanted to say thanks. I've managed to install the kalyway and everything works a treat!!!! Whats even better, i did it without posting a question . I read the forums and the wiki and it all turned out fine!!! Thats why i'm posting now, to say thanks to all the people who have asked questions that i have learnt from. Dune31 You are a total -- Thank you so much for your help with configuring the bios. Would never have done it with out you. I did it all on a ConRoe945G-DVI intergrated motherboard. The only thing that didn't work was the network card (realtek 81111 i think) I bought a cheap edimax (with a realtek RTL8139d chip for £2.80) and re-installed leopard, it all worked a treat! The system went to sleep but didn't 'wake up' and i had a blank screen. I arsed around in the BIOS once again and it all works well. No more vista for me!!! Oh, one thing i haven't managed to get working. Has anyone got a driver for an epson c66? I've searched high and low. These printers were common as muck. Someone must have solved it. Good luck with your mac-ing, .........Love and hugs,
KrisAU
Guys, am I right in saying that i will NOT be able to boot this DVD install using a IDE DVD Drive connected to a Jmicron controller (Like that on my Asus P5B Deluxe) The ONLY solution, would be to buy a SATA DVD Drive or get a SATA/ATA Adaptor, yes? Thanks Kris
palote
I am having issues with my re-install of this on my system. I just received my SATA DVD last night so that I could do a proper installation of the Kaly disc, and I thought everything was running very good. However I encountered another kernel panic, and I would really appreciate it if anyone can comment on what I should do. Here's a rundown of my most recent install: booted the Kaly DVD, hit F8, and fed the "-v vanilla" option to the bootloader. Inside the install, I re-partitioned my Leopard HD, 1 big partition, GUID. In the installation's custom options, I selected both kernel packages and the GUID bootloader only. Did not select sound, video or network as they didnt match my hardware. Install went on fine, finished, rebooted, got the multi-lingual welcome screen with sounds (via Logitech Z-10 USB speakers). I had to add the 2nd network adapter for my 2nd LAN port, worked fine. Installed the 10.5.2 nvidia 8800gts drivers that I found on here, as well as patched the AppleHDA with ALC888 info. After all that was done, I noticed the "About this Mac" screen showed my processor as "2.45 GHz unknown" and not "2.45 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad". I the more info section it showed 4 cores though. I installed a few more apps (Skype, Firefox, macam driver for webcam) and then on to Toast 8 Titanium. Ran the Tivo Transfer program it installed, and started to transfer a show from my Tivo, and got the wonderful kernel panic about 1.6GB into the file. In the system.log I only was able to find this error: Jan 2 20:39:13 kirbys-mac-pro kextd[10]: cannot resolve dependencies for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleACPIThermal.kext I searched on osx86forums and only found a reference to that kext in the BrazilMac version, with the suggestion to remove the following: I've not done this yet, as I dont know if this is really the cause of my problems. I do know that my CPU was not overheating though. The kernel panic also seems to only occur under heavy net traffic. I let the system sit idle with screen saver going for several hours last night and it was fine. Web browsing was fine. But as soon as I initiate a long file transfer I get a kernel panic. The only other weird entry in the system.log that I found was this: Jan 2 20:39:30 kirbys-mac-pro com.apple.dyld[583]: update_dyld_shared_cache[583] regenerated cache for arch=ppc Seemed odd about the arch=ppc part. So any ideas? Just to rule out the Tivo Transfer app, I did initiate a transfer of a file from the Tivo's built in web page, which is just like any other web download, and the same kernel panics occur. Im interested on this too.... so if anyone can help would be vey nice!!!!
afeagle
Dune31,Can I get some help? I've been at this for days and I've read through all the posts. I've tried a lot of suggestions and methods. I've got your release booting, but only with the DVD in the drive. I'm running a Latitude D800 with a Pentium M processor. Installing with GUID results in a failed install, so I have to partition with MBR. I've followed your suggestion and zeroed the drive (the entire drive, several times). I've installed with only SSE2 selected. When I restart without the dvd I get the blinking cursor (need DVD to boot). I boot back into DVD and install PC efi as yan.kun suggested. When I reboot (without DVD) I get a b0 error. Booting back into the DVD the partition is flagged as active (so that's not the issue). If I start all over, repartition, zero the drive, install with only SSE2, boot back into DVD, and dd boot0, I get b0 error as well. (but this shouldn't be the correct method because boot0 is for GUID not MBR) I don't know what to do, and would really like to get the system booting without DVD because otherwise it runs smooth as butter (and looks really nice on the UXGA screen). Thanks! Any help please? I'm about to give up if I can't get this booting properly.
olofd
Hi Dune and Kaly! Great DVD, but serveral of us can't get it to work. I've had Uphuck tiger, Jas tiger, Brazil and ToH working on my computer. but this happens when I try installing yours (And I know many other has the same problem): When I format and install to MBR The installation is successfull, but the OSX won't boot without the DVD in the drive. With the DVD in the drive, it boots and works 100% Without the DVD I just get a blinking coursor. When I partition to GUID and install I get an "Intallation Failed, Contact manufactoror" message. I'm 100% sure I select the right boot_mbr, boot_efi from the costumize menu. I've tried writing Zero's all over the disc multiple timesusing both MBR and GUID, no difference. I've even tried moving the mouse during installation so HDD won't go into sleep (Silly, but someone said so) Still NOTHING! The MBR won't boot and the GUID fails everytime. I've burned 3 Different discs but all of them give me the same result. What I will try now is downloading the ToH image and run his script.sh. But why should that be any different. Any more ideas to why I can't manage it to work. SPECS: Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 Q6600 Raptor disc
bitingthefruit
For ThinkPad with Atheros users: I use a T60 / CoreDuo / 1 Gb ram with the ABG wireless card (atheros). I am typing this from Leo (Thanks kalyway and all the team!!!!). I wanted to help other users about the wireless card... I also have a friend with a t60. Apart from bein CoreSolo, machines are identical. But he couldn't make his work by patching the AirPortAtheros kext. It worked with my kext sent to him. The difference (later I remembered...) was that I updated my system using apple software update... So, firstly update your system, then start the hacks! (luckily I made a backup of the kernel - vanilla doesn't work here, dunno why). Later I got the battery meter working by using a bundle you can find on this very forum (search for leopard thinkpad power management on google). Audio = Azalia Audio (out only - Taruga's patcher says this conexant is not yet supported) Wireless = patch the AirPortAtheros inside IO80211Networking after updating from apple Video = worked out of the box (QE shows as supported. Dunno what is CI, can't look this) Wired = worked out of the box Still looking for a solution to: - correctly map the volume keys - adjust brightness - make sleep work (it puts the device to sleep but when I wake it up, it just boots instead of coming back. It also claims about hardware tamper) About this mac shows processor as unkwown but system profiles reveals 2 cores - funny that now the mac reports the system memory speed correctly, but not the processor. Before it was the inverse :-) Hope this helps and again, THANKS to all that worked hard on this :-)
xnonsuchx
hi, sorry mate, how did u get the 8500gt working? had to sell mine and get a 7600gt for the mac osx to work! Thanks, ps. don't f*****g give out sites where 2 get the os. So, stupid. Am i wrong? GeForce 8400/8500/8600 now works if you have NVinject 0.1.7/0.2.0 and the unreleased 10.5.2 kexts and OpenGL.framework...or at least it works for MANY people. EDIT: Correction...I've seen a few people say the GTs might have problems w/ this solution still (except the 8600GT).

bertybassett
Apart from this kalyway DVD what else will I require to be able to install MAC OS X 10.5.1 on my Dell Lattitude D620? Do I need a Leopard install DVD or does the Kalyway DVD include the this? BTW found the install Kalyway DVD in the usual places coming down at 33k and only 20 hours to go. Of course I know the sucess of the install depends upon the hardware in the Dell laptop but I am guessing that should be quite straight forward as I have seen a few Dell d6xx models with os86xMAC. In advance thanx for your help lads.

Since your D620 is a genuine Intel Core CPU w/ a 945-based chipset, there's a pretty good chance it will work...though Ethernet/WiFi/audio/full graphics could be up in the air, as usual w/ laptops. flibblesan
any solution for my problem? Yes. Stop being lazy and read the thread and use the forum search. Starting a post saying "I have no time to read through this thread but i have a question." will result in you being ignored. If people do not do their homework and read the thread, and use the forum search, they will be ignored. If people cannot be bothered to read threads or search, then don't bother with OSX86 and buy a real Apple computer.
junior
any solution for my problem? Try to format your partition as MAC Journaled, instead of MAC HFS+; My mac 10.4.8 wouldn't boot either, and it worked by doing that... Grtz, JUnior

williwilliwilli
I was so close! P5K-E! Please help! Hello Guys, I tried this wonderful release and it worked a lot better than those I tried before (ToH, iAtkos), so thank you for that. I had everything set up nicely but my wifi (P5K-E WIFI-AP) was not working. I had installed the driver but that didn't help because the WIFI did not turn up in the Network settings, so I could not activate it. I put my hope on asap18 script and tried it (leopard modification by vikingboy, i think). I understand it backs up the old kexts, replaces some of them and then does some cleaning up. I repaired permissions in disk utility and rebooted and now I get "still waiting for root device" (it stops after a line about firewire - I don't know if that makes a difference). Now I am unable to revert to the situation before applying the script because I don't know enough (is this error related to the wrong kexts, how do I put back the old kexts, what do I have to do after about permissions and stuff). Do you have any suggestions? My set-up (bought for OSX): P5K-E wifi-ap Pentium 2160 (Core2Duo) Nvidia 7300GT Sata DVD and HDD Vanilla installation as only OS on HD with Guid partitions. I will gladly give more information if needed. Thanks, Willi

williwilliwilli
So you think, just putting back the kexts is enough to fix the "still waiting for root device" error, right? That would be good! Don't I need any cleaning up (fix permissions, etc)? Do you know if I have to touch Extensions.mkext (is this the replacement for Extensions.kextcache which seems not to exist)? I don't have any Windows installed at the moment, so I cannot use HFS Explorer (wasn't this also read-only access?). I will have to do it from within the Installation DVD (Terminal). Thanks a lot for your reply anyway. I really hope you get your problems sorted out! Cheers, Willi EDIT: Oh, this was supposed to be the answer to two posts above. So if anyone wants to help further, read my problem there, thanks.
curveball692
Im interested on this too.... so if anyone can help would be vey nice!!!! You are getting freezes on network transfers as well? I tried again last night to download a linux ISO (had to find something big) and it froze the system about 90MB into it. For the heck of it, I took out my other system (Asus P5B Deluxe, Core 2 Duo E6300, 8600GTS) and installed the same way as I have on this system, and once done, tried transfers and they were just fine. System never froze. I wish someone would comment on this whole issue with my IP35 Pro setup. Its really frustrating trying to get this OS to work, especially when others seem to have done so on this motherboard, but yet when I ask questions they go largely ignored. Thanks, Willi you have just to add the ethernet(+) that corresponds to the wifi in the network preferences windows. if it doesn't work, delete all ethernet entries(-) and add them back(+) then apply. Do not touch to any kext please. this release works perfectly with the P5K-E. that's my second mobo. The backups folder contains "Original" kext from Apple ! Do not use those kexts for your mobo ! Built-in LAN is 2x Marvell 88E8053...maybe check the Hardware drivers section of the forum. palm
i have more than one problem here: my windows crashes and complains about memory buffer underrun when trying to unzip the whole thing. so i needed to extract the iso only. the iso then became 3,738,624kb - doesnt seem right. well i burned it out anyway to try and when booting i get the following message: "System config file '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found". A few weeks ago I also tryed the JAS batfile rendering to HD / install without a DVD-thing and i have a feeling it fu**ed up something on my computer caus after that im having trouble installing windows again, it complains about some i86 file missing. Could someone point me in the right direction here, im no computer wizard but i need OSX beacuse of Logic 8. sorry i forgot to tell what gear i have: Intel QuadCore 2,4GHz 4GB Ram ASUS P5K (with firewire). no one can help me here? i dont know what all the talk about vanilla and kernel means cant i just boot with the dvd? seems i missunderstood a bit but the "manual" isnt very well written. please ask me where to look and what to look for, ive been browsing these forums for a long time but still i dont get much out of it, words like ESS2 and 3 i dont know what it means. yes i have also googled alot without luck. thanks.
