What does it actually mean when it says "com.apple.plist not found"

That usually means that it can't read/find/see your DVD, for whatever reason. Reasons include IDE/SATA controller not recognized, bad ISO download or bad burn of DVD. IAC it means you can go no further until you fix it.

Are you getting this error booting the DVD or booting the install? I have a 500 GB SATA drive in mine, it works fine.

Hi

First off, a big thank you to the KALYWAY team, this is the first release I've got to work on me old Asrock 775-dual system tho to get native vanilla kernel to work I'm going to get a cheap Asus board.

The only issue I'm having is Safari keeps crashing when I try and download anything, and of course therefore Mac OS updating. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks again

I.

I'm sorry but what is the different between booting the DVD vs. booting the install?

Basically, I have install Window Vista on the SATA 500 GB on a 40GB Primary partition and I left the rest of the 460GB disk space for OSX86 Leopard.

I'm using an IDE to USB adapter for an IDE DVD Rom. I can boot my XP/Vista CD from it but can't seem to be able to boot with my Kalyway Leopard DVD.

I have an old TOH RC2 DVD which I install using the same DVD ROM on another machine and it boot from it just fine, so I must say the DVD ROM is ok?

To me, the error "com.apple.boot.plist not found" seems like when booting from the USB Drive with the Leopard DVD, the system didn't recognize the DVD? Why is that?

What is the easiest way to install Kalyway? It's a brand new computer so at this point, I don't really need a dual boot. Will it be better if I format the whole drive and just use it for Leopard? If so, what software should I use to format the whole drive and prepare it for OSX86 Leopard?

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers

Andy

My first install on my HP had a PS2 keyboard pluged in and all installed and worked fine, since then I changed to a USB keybaord. So I would say yes, PS2 keybaord supported.

Hmm, I just finished installing with the vanilla kernel and during the Installation the keyboard worked ok, but now when I want to enter the register fields the PS2 keyboard won't respond. Maybe I have to do something during the boot sequence but I have no idea what :) I'll keep browsing the forum I guess.

I just wanted to be clear about where you are seeing this message: booting the DVD or after installing then booting from the installed OS X on the hard drive. Sorry if I was not clear! :)

Since you have booted ToH on this USB DVD, then I would say your Kalyway DVD is bad. Either a bad ISO download or a bad burn. Try burning it again at a slower speed.

Personally, I always do test burns on DVD+RW first. Very handy to have a few re-writable DVDs around.

I am using an sse2 cpu. I am sure that this release is compatible with sse2. i am having the same problem that you have with ToH release but kaly's release does not have that. it can be something in your BIOS.

btw, I have a pentium m (see sig.) but About this Mac says that it is a 1.5 ghz intel core solo.. About this mac crashes after install and I used paulicat's applesmbios.kext.. it might be related to that.

only problem now is making QE/CI work and get it recognized as AGP at the same time.

Its good that you made it work on your SSE2.. Im using ASUS P4P800-x mobo and i still cant get it to work. Well there are a lot of us who cant get it to work.. Do you know what particular bios setting should be turned on or off to make the installer work? Can you post what bios setting did you use when you were installing Kalyway? Thanks for your help

The thing is, I tried the TOH RC2 DVD(Same DVD) on this setup and I'm getting the same error. Seems like the motherboard know I want it to boot from DVD ROM but it went to the WRONG place to look for the boot.plist file? Why is that? The motherboard I'm using is Abit IP35 Pro which has the JMicron chip on it.

I have tried DISABLED the JMicron which also disable my IDE so I have to use the USB-DVD Rom setup and still with no luck.

I'm so stuck...

What should I do now?? Please help! help! help!!

I got 10.5.1 installed but I get the blinking cursor upon reboot. With the DVD in the drive, I was able to boot the system up. In the macinstall.log, it says “Could not write boot record to disk /dev/disk1s1 /dev/disk0s1!” I install using MBR method with zeroing out the disk. Anyone know hot to fix the boot record issue?

Same issue for me. I could not get the disc to boot from a USB DVD at all on my IP35 Pro. I am thinking there must be some incompatible USB/DVD chipsets out there. It has nothing to do with my ISO download, or the disc I burned as I used the exact drive/disc combo on my Asus P5B Deluxe and it worked perfectly. Also I took the time to burn another image at 1x, and still same results. Its definitely an issue with this particular MB and my (and your) USB DVD enclosure/adapter. Solution = buy SATA DVD.

I would say yes, format whole drive using GUID and EFI. GUID offers more flexability later (though I have not tried) to split and resize partitions later if you want to try dual boot.

Sorry for the this dumb question but where would I download the DVD image from? KALYWAY LEOPARD 10.5.1 intel SSE2 and SSE3 Only (with 512 MB of RAM)!!! efi v8 is not a clickable link for me and after scanning the original post several times I could not see the link to download the image. I am missing something basic here.

A pointer in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks.

big thanks to all who made it possible!

have 10.5.1 kalyway dual booting with xp running on:

ga-p35-ds3p

7900gs

ethernet works out of the box (set Boot from LAN in BIOS to enable)

audio out is working with appleazaliaaudio.kext

have no idea if audio in is working? do i need a different kext for that?

shutdown/sleep/reboot works 100%

to get my dual boot working easily, I had to use MBR EFI, insted of GUiD. is there any problem doing this? everything still seems to work perfectly! Also I had to turn off AHCI AFTER installing OSX. So basically my dual boot consists of:

1. Blank HDD. (500gb WD SATA in this case)

3. Enable AHCI in BIOS

2. Insert OSX kalyway 10.5.1 dvd

3. Create two partitions, one FAT, one HFS+

4. Make sure disk is in MBR format

5. Install OSX onto HFS+ partition using vanilla kernal, nvinject, and MBR EFI

6. wait for install/reboot

7. should load into OSX straight away

8. apply audio kexts as required

9. reboot

10. disable AHCI in BIOS

11. insert win XP cd

12. install win XP on other partition made earlier

13. after installation of win XP, copy tboot.ini to c:\, and add this line to boot.ini

c:\tboot="Mac OSX Leopard"

14. reboot.

15. done.

that was my "easy" method to do it without fdisk'ing/making partitions active etc etc. sure u dont get GUID but is that a bad thing? I can't tell the difference. Also, after setting AHCI back to disabled, I noticed my drive icons in OSX are no longer orange external, but proper internal drive icons :D

so after all that I have 5 questions:

1. Is there a problem using MBR instead of GUID?

2. Do I need a different .kext to enable audio inputs?

3. When I select to boot OSX from the XP bootloader, I get taken to the Darwin bootloader, which gives me two options: XP or OSX. is there any way to edit the darwin bootloader to remove the XP option, so it just boots straight to OSX?

4. has anyone had any luck getting a D-Link DWL-G122 Rev C1 firmware 3.00 usb wifi adapter working is OSX? I have tried the ralink drivers, and it says it is connected, but in safari it says I am not connected to the internet??? It could be my dodgy speedstream router though, as i have problems using usb dongle with it under xp too (it doesnt seem to assign DHCP IPs properly).

5. how do i check QC/QI ? of the graphics card? how do I check it is working to its full potential?

once again, thanks everyone for 100's of pages of help and for a great release!

Tim.

Hi!

Where can i find the file "tboot.ini". I I just added the line c:\tboot="Mac OSX Leopard and when i choose it says the hall32.dll is misssing.

Hi,

I'm trying this on a Dell 1600s server with 2 Prescott Xeons.

I'm trying all the DVD boot options (-legacy,cpus=1,-r,-x,-s etc) and I cant get past this point.

Whats on the CPU scren reads:

EFI Enhanced Bios Bootloader Build ToH

Using SMBIOS Table found at 0x000faad0

Using HCP RSDP Revision 0 found at 0x000fdc40

at this point the system just hangs and I have to turn it off or do a hard reset to get it to boot again.

Ive been reading thru the lists here and Ive tried so many different ways to boot up with the DVD and get the same results

everytime where it hangs at the above message.

Any clues or tips or maybe someone knows for sure that it wont work on this particular system

Would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Cmon guys...Ive asked 3 tines here can xomeone please help?

Simple question:

I have modo asus p5b deluxe with 4 SATA drives and 1 IDE. The 2 SATA its in RAID-0 (and this raid is my vista system).

What i have to do to install KALYWAY 10.5.1 at 1 of my other drives? (SATA or IDE)

With what way i wil choose the OS (vista or OSX) after the installation? Since i will have 2 different OS at 2 different disks, do i need any boot manager or i can use asus mobo boot menu (F8) ?

Thanks!

After a dozen install tries I have it up and running. That is NO sign of the quality of this release, it was me intentionally trying some different things. I learned some good lessons that I thought I would share. First off - thanks kaly and dune, awesome job!!!!

Here is my setup:

Asus P5W DH with 2406 bios update

Corsair 2 x 1GB PC2-6400

3 x Seagate 320GB SATA (internal)

1 x WD 300GB IDE (internal) (jmicron)

1 x Maxtor 250GB IDE (internal) (jmicron)

1 x WD 500GB external USB

1 x LG DVD-R 18x IDE (internal)

1 x Panasonic DVD-ROM IDE (internal)

ATI x1950 pro PCI-E

Intel QX6700 Quad core extreme 2.66 Ghz

Samsung 22" widescreen monitor

One of my Seagate SATA's is my primary drive. I have MS Vista Home Premium on the first partition (145GB) dual booted with Leo on the second parition (50GB). I use chain0 method for the dual boot.

My lessons learned for ATI x1950:

Installed kaly with the ATI1000 kext option (NATIT_ATIcards). When the install completes, it will kernal panic if booted normally. Boot with verbose safe mode (-v -f -x). You will need to switch the video kext. So with leo up, install the Bronya x1950 kext (Bronya x1950 drivers). Unzip and run the package within ATI_X1950_LEO.zip. Fix the permissions when done (you can do this in disk utility if you want), reboot, and you are good to go.

I have mine running at 1680 x 1050 with QE supported.

My lessons learned for the Asus P5W DH mobo:

- upgrade to the newest BIOS version. I am at 2406.

- use the network adapter2 (the one on top) as the one on bottom isn't enabled in leo.

- chose the sound card kext from the kaly installer, it works perfectly.

- use the BIOS settings already detailed in this thread. Very important - you will end up in a boot loop if they are not correct. My settings are as follows:

...IDE Config...

Configure SATA as - [AHCI]

ALPE and ASP - [disabled]

...CPU Config...

Modify Ratio support - [disabled]

Microcode updation - [enabled]

Max CPUID Value Limit - [disabled]

Execute Disable Function - [enabled]

Enhanced C1 Control - [auto]

CPU Internal Thermal Control - [auto]

Virtualization Technology - [enabled]

Intel SpeedStep technology - [enabled]

...Power Section...

ACPI 2.0 support - [yes]

ACPI APIC support - [enabled]

My lessons learned for dual booting with Vista:

I installed leo on the second partition of a drive with vista on the first. Chain0 will find leo as long as it is within the first 200gb of the drive. I created the leo partition with a diskpart command within Vista (create partition primary size=50000 id=af). This method by default makes the partition MBR.

A note on GUID vs. MBR as there seems to be some confusion on what they mean. They refer to the type of partition table. Here is a simple rule to follow for choosing which type to use - if you have a windows os on another partition (same drive) then use MBR. If you have a drive totally dedicated to Leo than you can use GUID. Either way, once the partition is created you still need to format the drive with MAc os, journaling enabled (HFS+).

As kaly noted, when the install is done it will set the Leo partition as active. So, you won't be able to get back to Vista without a little work. What you do is get your Vista DVD and boot from it. Go into rescue mode -> command prompt. Use diskpart (type 'diskpart') and set your Vista partition back to active:

- select disk x (x= # with vista installed on it)

- select partition x (x = # of vista partition, likely 1)

- active

Reboot a second time with your Vista DVD inserted, go to rescue mode and let it automatically find your Vista install. It will recover it and automatically reboot. Take DVD out, reboot, and you are back into Vista.

Next thing you need to do is re-create your Mac OS entry in the Vista boot loader. Use bcdedit with the following commands (from the Vista command prompt with admin rights):

C:\Users\username>bcdedit /create /d "Mac OS Leopard" /application osloader

The entry {guid provided here} was successfully created.

C:\Users\username>bcdedit /set {insert guid from above} PATH \chain0

The operation completed successfully.

C:\Users\username>bcdedit /set {insert guid from above} device boot

The operation completed successfully.

C:\Users\username>bcdedit /displayorder {insert guid from above} /addlast

The operation completed successfully.

Hopefully you will find some useful info here.

later,

macmono.
