Total mac noobb just like others with a question.I am trying to install kalway, it gets to white screen with the apple logo with a spinning icon on the bottom then it either hangs or the computer turns off. When I boot from the dvd and I press F8 its comes to a boot: prompt. After this what do I type? I have just hit enter to let it go, I have also typed in vanilla. Am I missing something? I see the readme talks about guid and mbr. Are these options later on during the install or is it something you type in before the install? Any help is appreciated.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the great work and effort.

I've gone through all the posts looking for assistance with my issue but nothing has worked.

I'm installing using an external USB DVD and all i ever get is the Darwin bootloader then reboot. Darwin loads all the extensions/ then black screen and reboots :censored2:

I've tried combinations of the following without any difference to the outcome (all end in black screen after loading externsions, then rebooting):

-v

-x

-r

-legacy

cpus=1

-s

-f

My Spec

Make

HP Pavillion 734.uk

processor

Intel® Pentium® 4 – 2.66GHz

Intel® i845G chipset (sse2)

533MHz bus speed

Level 2 cache 512KB

memory

2x512MB DDR-SDRAM

communication

10/100BT network interface

IEEE 1394 Interface

video

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX™-440

128MB dedicated video memory

sound

Integrated AC '97 sound solution

Polk Audio MM-20 powered multimedia

BIOS

3.25 - no options as outlined in the guides :(

Any ideas? or ahould I give it up as a bad job?

Cheers

Keith :)

i tried vanilla and same thing starts loading never makes it to the grey logo screen and reboots.

you are right the guid and mbr bit is for installing witch does not apply until you can get to the install part.

@flashGX

Thanks mate, top man your a legend! Really appreciate your reply, can you please possibly answer my most important question?:

"Is the kalyway version of leopard the full blown 64bit version of Leopard (like the ones you would get on a new iMac) or is it just a stripped down 32bit version like the AMD users are using? Is anything missing from the Kalyway version at all?..."

Cheers, your a gent!!! :censored2:

HELLO NOOBS! I told you that, because I was a noob to:

1. Read the thread

2. Follow ALL the bios settings postet by DUNE31

3. Install with different option konfigurations

4. When you post here, don´t write "I have a PC and install does´nt work" or somtehing like this. If you want to get an answer, post your hardware (minimum mainboard, network, video, audio) and what exactly you have done.

I wish you success! :censored2:

for those (like me) trying to install Kalyway 10.5.1 on ur Pentium 4 SSE2 and seem to have reboots, iAtkos has a ppf patch that gives support for SSE2. you might want to try it. post in a new thread if you have success in installing it..

Installation just hangs up for me.

Inserting DVD, loading with -v (without -v its just shows an apple logo)

no any errors messages, no any warnings, -- its just stops loading.

System is: SATA DVD, 975x MSI Power Up Edition, Core2Duo.

First installation DVD that didn't even start. Got Tiger 10.4.9 working on this machine before. Where should I see? Some BIOS setting up maybe? \

Hey Kaly,

I have everything running as smooth as possible, things behave better then a mac pro by now :)

anyway, im wondering, what would be the best steps to integrate all the drivers i have on my system back onto the dvd

i could unpack the .iso, add my /System/Library/Extensions to it and pack it back up, but where do i put it ?

could you help me out ? or anyone else for that matter?

A really beautiful release. I got everything to install fine, but the DVD took its time starting up. Well worth it though. Only issue i have is it freezes randomly after a while. im trying to fix that up. Can anyone help me? Specs are in my sig.

you can fix that by going to System preferences ---> Energy Saver ---> set everything to never...

i think that should work...

anyone can send me the kalyway iso via irc?

Hi all,

Kaly is running great with Asus P5K (ICH9 chip - new bios -> Sata set to IDE enhanced not AHCI).

Just one minor bug is left.

When

a) unpacking large distros with any zipper (BetterZip for example) and

b ) burning large files with Toast 8.0.3

i got a kernel panic (you have to restart your computer...)

Does somenon have the same behavior?

i have make a restore app ! for Restore_Factory_Desktop_finder_settingsRestore_Factory_Desktop_Finder_settings (default background, icons, dock)for change orange colour in window finder! right click on orange colour then Show view options and select background white !! use by default !new users accounts will be virgin ! CAN BE USED ON ALL 10.5.x DISTRO !!!it's all !!
That´s great! Will this set FrontRow back to original with it´s better looking icons too?It would have been easier and smarter to just leave Leopard gui like it is. ;)Dune31, i finally got it to work with MBR as i tried that first. It only booted up my external usb drive after i set harddrives to RAID mode. IDE alos works for this, but AHCI does not when i tested that before. How come my comp is a windtunnel with Leopard? Is this because i didn´t select vanilla or any other driver and just MBR EFI?Would a vanilla and GUID install not cause this effect?I would love some help on this as it´s to loud and very annoying as it is.With Tiger i don´t have this issue. In Tiger i used nv40 in JaS, then Natit 0.2 for dual screens, wich also fully supports my graphicscard, and my comp is not loud either.Vista do speed up like Leopard, but goes quiet every now and then, but not with Leopard.I appreciate any help i can get! :)Thanx for the Kalyway dvd!I am happy to finally got it working. So strange that it works by doing things different from how others do it.

i put together a video to show what is happening

1. memorex dvd rom drive from staples i thought other dvd drives was at fault.

2. the dvd drive is connected to a ide to usb dongle you can get at http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20Wor...ing/USB2PATA25/ mac sales.com ( later i suspected that the pc used a jmicron ide chip)

3. a piece of toslink optical cable used for digital sound systems is used to transmit the indicator closer to view and will show as a pinprick of light nect to the monitor.

4. this is me booting the iatkos, toh and leopard gm patching instructions ( all of witch gives same results).

5. you will notice that it boots far enough to get the grey logo screen and the indicator only flashes for a second or 2 then stops (what is going on is a kernel panic this is on the iatkos, toh and leopard gm patching instructions ( all of witch gives same results )).

6. now i am booting the kalyway build i decided to turn off the light to make it easier to see indicator and you will notice it is running the inital part but never makes it to the grey apple logo and instead reboots listen carefully there will be a beep close to 5 minutes later just after the screen flashes a couple times.

the pc has rebooted instead of launching the startup for the installer ( the uphuck 10.4.9 would pass everything ok and install and run with no patching by end users needed).

7. now i use the -v -x commands and you will see for the next 5 and half minutes a bunch of lines of files scrolling until reboot happens again.

8. now this time i let the timer run out and you will see it complains of a missing file ( the uphuck 10.4.9 dvd never did that it booted find even letting timer go.

9. you will see me changing something on the motherboard that is the bios jumper this board uses a jumper to configure as wel as the esc and f keys the jumper method works more reliably for me since it ensures the bios screen comes up.

10. i edited out some of the video here and it would be staring at a blank screen because i forgot that some boards need to have the usb devices removed otherwise it hangs and never loads the bios settings.

11. usb boot is enabled and you will notice that no dvd drive shows in the boot device priority because currently it is still set up for usb booting thinking the board had a jmicron chip.

right now i am not posting the video because i am encoding it to a suitable web format to keep the quality and i want you to see the text in the mean time.

i posted the specs earlier that is the long list that includes some chinese chars.

later i will update the board with the video once it get a good quality video up that does not use too much bandwidth.

if you do more stuff you will still get the kernel panic

for example using final cut for half an hour

even the screensaver (1/100) could cause the kp

i have the same mobo as you ,1st i thought it is because of my 8800GT but now i'm not sure..

what gfx card you have?

maybe you are with the 10.5.2 files?

if yes ,the problem 99% is there

well thats very strange since i have a P5K and i dont have any panics with Kaly :)

It must be a driver at fault, try to track it down

Mmh, i've got a MSI 7900GTO (flashed of course) using the nvidia desktop driver from kaly DVD.Do you ever unpacked a 2gb file or burning a dvd with toast > 4gb?Found another P5K owner on osx86scene with same problem. What Bios versions are you running? And do you choose Enhanced Ide in Bios for Sata?

You've got a P5K Premium with ICH9-R. I've got a P5K (Plain) with ICH9 and i've got the 7900GTO using Nvidia Desktop driver from Kaly.I never get any kernel panics - only when unpacking very big files or burning them with Toast (integrated burner in Finder burns the big files just fine).I think it has something to do with the new driver implementation for ICH9.

no panics when copying big files

i copied the 7gb leopard iso before from a sata disk to ide disk in 3 minutes

panics in toast because it use the qe/ci

my problems are when osx has qe/ci enabled in 8800gt and run apps that use qe/ci

i'll wait for the final 10.5.2 update from apple

I've got everything working except all my cores. Core 2 quad Q6600 running only 1 core. The DVD won't boot unless I do cpus=1, and I must install SSE2 and cpus=1 for the install to boot. Any other combination results in hang at "Using xxxx buffers" line. It's an APIC/ACPI issue. Played with all my BIOS settings (there aren't very many regarding ACPI) and installed/re-installed about 15 times in the last few days. I can live with 1 core for now! :P Even the volume up/down/mute buttons on the keyboard work!

Got full QE/CI video on Radeon HD2600PRO with help from the irc channel. Files are posted on rapidshare.

Machine is Acer AM5620 desktop with Acer G33T-AM MB (Intel G33/ICH9 chipset), AMI BIOS, SATA-2 drives (no IDE at all).

Every time I install with my DS3P motherboard I get the successful installation message but then reboot and get either the boot plist missing message or b0 error. I am going out of my mind with frustration. I have tried the fix with fdisk making the efi partition active, still no joy. I have tried installing with GUID and MBR on separate occasions!!!! I thought this motherboard was supposed to be installing like a breeze but cannot understand where I am going wrong? Please anyone with this motherboard can you give me a few pointers?

You may have already solved this by now, but are you making sure to first select "1 Partition", then click the Options button in the Partition tab of Disk Utility, and choose either GUID or MBR, and then FINALLY, actually clicking on the Apply button?

:P
