macgirl
¿Realmente dices O ESE EQUIS en lugar de OS EQUIS? Nunca habÃa oÃdo pronunciarlo asà en castellano... Really do you say "O ESE EQUIS" instead of "OS EQUIS"? I've heard pronouncing it this way in castilian spanish...  SÃ, algunas veces. A veces digo Mac O Ese Equis o Mac O Ese Diez.  Yes, sometimes. Sometimes I say Mac O Es Ex or Mac O Es Ten.
Luminaire
It IS OS 10, officially. Even the Mac guy from the ads pronounces it that way. Â I catch myself saying "Ex" a lot though, because people understand what I mean faster that way.
Innocent Devil
Thats just another marketing trick  rather than presenting the New os and Mac OS 10 ( or System 10) simply changed the 10 ton roaman , isn't it common practice to put something to say easitly in anyway ??  so it is call Mac OS X (context X=10) to address it simply mac OHYESEX  This is somewhat simlar to Corel's CorelDraw X2 X3 X2 = 12 X3 = 13  however i know it is 10th version of Mac OS and when i pronouce it mac ohyesex ,i know it is OS
kanonFive
I've always said OS 'X', but I know the correct way is OS '10' (according to Steve Jobs' keynote speeches). OS 'X' sounds a lot nicer I think.

gloria
When talking about OSX here's a good rule of thumb.  SAY "OS- EX"  When quickly comparing it to OS9, or Windows XP, or when someone asks what operating system you have.  Calling OSX - O-S-Ex is the same as calling: SCSI - Scuzzy....it's just what everyone says.   Say, "OS Ten"  When you're saying "OS.10.4.8"  I call Leopard Ten Point Five - Not eX point Five   ...so in other words everyone in this forum's topic was right to some degree.  I just would have liked the option in the poll to choose both/depends
zhinchliffe
I say 10.
Soündless
i say 10, but how is osx86 pronounced? "OS ten x 86, OS ten 86 or OS EX 86"?
Prawker
i normally say OS 10 (X is roman numeral for 10) but i say os ex 86 all the time.
mac.nub
i say 10, but how is osx86 pronounced? "OS ten x 86, OS ten 86 or OS EX 86"? OSx86 has to be "OS EX 86", at least for me "OS 1086" just doesn't sound right - what is it... a year?
.ark
It's a pun. And it's marketing. The official name is "OS X", so it's whatever is easiest to say. I still just call it "Mac OS".
charliepan
What I wanna know is.... if in type it was OS9, then OSX.... what will be next... OS11 or OSXI?? Â Oh... And I say OS ex, but then I am kinda new to the "other" computer.
Silthrim
I say OS Ex plain and simple. Ten doesn't sound right and i dont care about the older versions cause ive never used them so "ex" it is.

penguin777
Yeah, you gotta watch. I work for tech support with Apple. And if I tell the customer to boot off the disk "mac os 10" they say mine says mac os X. So it is just a matter of who you are talking to. A lot of people are not familiar with roman numerals. I personally think we should use roman numerals now. They are way too cool.
siddharth
I say OS X (as in the letter). Sounds way cooler.
FuturDreamz
Say OS eX ten times fast. then you will know why it is 10.

Core2UK
I call it "OS EX" because it does sound slicker. I also call OSx86 "OS EX 86" simply because x86 is the platform.
Lazlo Falconi
10 because nobody said OS "I eks" to OS 9. On the other hand, if it had been written as OS IX, I'm sure a lot of people would have said I ecks... Also, yeah, I do say OS ecks eight-six.
