her chrismo, can you elaborate how you used Timewise's bootefi script to run boot_v7_guid_only. ?

Thanks a bunch

Did you loose Firewire ???

damn, I was close to go for the Bad Axe2 but if Fire Wire is not sure, I cant use it. audio interface and such....

I might bite the sour apple then.

I bought a cheap 3-port Firewire card off eBay and it works fine, fwiw.

Hi all! I have some small issues that maybe people on here can help me with on my hack:

1) UUID errors during Superduper

2) Shutdown shows the 'you must press the reset button'

3) sound may drop out after reboot. Although, when I reloaded the ALC885 dump, but didn't repair permissions, it came back after reboot. Hmmm....

4) One other thing, but can't think of it right now.

Firewire works fine for me to, with the built in Firewire, and an adaptec card I just bought. ( I needed more ports)

On the other hand the Marvell controller that I thought was working was not. It showed up fine and mounted my disks, but I couldnt write to them :( I havent fiddled much with it since i dont need the exta 4.

Firewire works fine for me on 10.5.2

My install was kalyway 10.5.1,

Then upgrade with :

http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4024028/kalywa....5.2ComboUpdate

then install vanilla kernel with :

http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4024497/10.5.2...__and_patched__

All works fine !

GUID/EFI8 OK

Bye

Here are all the scripts and files on my USBkey, which I have named BOOTLOADER.

http://rapidshare.com/files/102365989/bootefi.zip.html

This is how I install, EFI 8 GUID and activate:

I keep a USB stick named BOOTLOADER (formatted MSDOS FAT), with the bootefi folder on it.

Step1

Open up Terminal and type:

sudo -s (then enter your root password)

cd /Volumes/BOOTLOADER/bootefi

./bootefi.sh 1000 (my disk is named 1000, you should put your disk name here instead)

then run throught the prompts, selecting GUID etc. At the end - restart your computer,

Step2

Open up Terminal and type:

sudo -s (then enter your root password)

cd /Volumes/BOOTLOADER/bootefi

./bootefi_7_guid_only.sh 1000 (my disk is named 1000, you should put your disk name here instead)

then run throught the prompts, selecting GUID etc. At the end - restart your computer,

NOTE: in the readme file I there is a typo. Make sure the line says ./bootefi_7_guid_only.sh (NOT ./bootefi_v7_guid_only.sh) Sorry - mybad

Step3

Open up Terminal and type:

sudo -s (then enter your root password)

cd /Volumes/BOOTLOADER/bootefi

./bootefi.sh 1000 (my disk is named 1000, you should put your disk name here instead)

then run throught the prompts, selecting GUID etc. At the end - restart your computer,

Thats it. Your disk partition now has EFI8 on it.

You can install your Kalyway, or, Brazil, or Retail install onto it.

Note:

When I installed Vista on another drive, it seemed that it messed up the EFI8 on my 1000 drive. I just ran the bootefi.sh again and it cleared things up. Also, I use superduper to make backup of my OS. Before I run superduper, I did Steps 1,2,3 to the empty drive I was going to use as my backup. Worked well. I can boot to it fine.

Also note: I just found another thread here about BADAXE2 boards... http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...c=86476&hl=

You need to unmount the drive after you reboot the m/c. You should also check and make sure the hard drive you are installing on hasn't changed drive number I think this is only relevent if you have more than 1 hard drive but make sure it is the same number as every time I rebooted it moved up. This is all done in disk utility clicking on the drive and selecting get info.also after the first reboot after step 1 above you need to make the drive activesudo -s fdisk -e /dev/rdisk........ this is your drive numberupdatef Y wqrebootnever came out as typed above try againsudo -supdatef Y wqreboot

Do you have the boot_v7_guid_only file in your usb stick's i386 folder?

Did you format the drive you waant to install on as GUID using apples Disk Utilities?

Below is a jpg of what files are on my USBstick as well as a zip of all the files I have on it.

You shoud not have to unmount the drive at any time, the script will do that for you. Also, the script finds the drive number, using the drive name, so you dont need to worry about drive numbers at all. Thats why its cool. Kudos to whoever made it.

Here is a zip of all the files on my USB key which I named BOOTLOADER. This way you can just format, then do the 1, 2, 3, steps. http://rapidshare.com/files/102365989/bootefi.zip.html

I answered an email, and thought I might as well post this here since it might help someone.

I have always installed OSX in this order:

A. Format drive HFS journaled (GUID option)

B. Make the drive EFI_8 Using the 1step, 2step 3step scripts

C. Install OSX from an unpatched Retail Disk (or mounted diskimage of it) using these 2 terminal commands:

cd /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Installation/Packages

open osinstall.mpkg

(Once install is done Dont Restart)

D. Add the dsmos.kext to your kext extensions (/System/Library/Extensions/)and fix Permissions and Ownership of dsmos.kext

E. Make drive bootable using terminal command

sudo /usr/sbin/vsdbutil -a /Volumes/YourDiskHere

F. Restart and boot from your new Drive (you might want to hit F10 during the Bios screen so you can select that drive.)

Thats it. It should boot up. Repair permissions. I didnt remove any kexts or anything else, but you could remove AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext if you want to be safe. And depending on your video card you might need to install an nvidia.kext I dont know if the 7600 works automatically.

After I have formatted the drive, and done steps 1,2,3 to install EFI, the disk is still blank. Those EFI steps only put files on an tiny invisible partition that you can only see if you go into terminal and type DiskUtil list

I'm think you are installing EFI on a drive which already has a system on it right? Those files you see now were likely always there, but were invisible before.

I think you need to put EFI on the disk BEFORE you install OSX.

If you already have a versionof OSX with User files you dont want to lose, you can use Apples Migration Assistant to copy all your files from another version of OSX. It will import all your applications, emails photos etc. But if the User files are on osx 10.5.2, then it's best to upgrade your new system to 10.5.2 BEFORE you migrate it over.

You can update to 10.5.2 using apples unpatched version, but use Netkas's script to delete the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext as soon as it gets installed.

I Installed LeopardGraphicsUpdate1.0 from apple with no problems

P.S. I hope you dont mind if I post this in the Forum - but it might help someone else too.

Kalaway added some things to his install... See in the finder window at the top... There are two magnifying glasses. The one with the red line through it lets things be invisible like they should be.The other magniifying glass lets you see all invisibles. He added a few programs to the application folder too, and I'm not sure which kexts he changed, so thats why I switched from his. Kalyway is great though - without a doubt the simplist method!ChrisSorry I made a typo thats why the error! In Step 2, Make sure the line says ./bootefi_7_guid_only.sh (NOT ./bootefi_v7_guid_only.sh) Sorry - mybad

I tryied to patch brazil but it freezes up the machine and on the ppc it doesent work either.

Man, I love my BadAxe2 system, but I can tell you that I just finished building another system using the Asus Maximus Formula (see my signature) and what a night and day difference.

It installs to a GUID partition scheme out of the box, audio works out of the box with Kalyway and I updated to 10.5.2 flawlessly with zero headache so far.

There is one small problem I am chasing down which is the shut down issue but I am sure I will get around that soon enough.

Anyway, just an update for you guys and Weaksauce12, I am and will still try and help with the Badaxe2 as I will be using that system every day as well, but the Maximus allows me to run the newer 45nm processors and is a much simpler install than the BadAxe2 by leaps and bounds.so if you guys are sitting on the fence about whats next, you may want to consider the Maximus formula (not the extreme edition if you want to avoid DDR3).

Hey guys, just popping in to say I'm still alive. The boot code issue is the last problem that we are facing, after that it's smooth sailing. Not sure how long it will take to get fixed, but I'm fairly confident it's fixable, and I'm working with an excellent coder to get things running well.

Team Scream is right - if you're buying a new board, I'd suggest looking elsewhere (DFI Lanparty, Tyan dual proc, etc.) for Penryn support & better out-of-box compatibility. Don't worry though, I'm not getting rid of my system anytime soon!

Hello all,

The install worked its not that bad, but there are kernelpanics

copying or importing large files. Im wondering what that is.

would a other kernel be a fix ?

Now the 9.2 Kalyway is running.

thanks

Hi WeakSauce,

Thanks for all of your hard work. I hope that the boot code issues are solvable. I'm going to be building my Hack Pro pretty soon.

I have a question though.

I have a video capture card plugged into a PCI slot on my BadAxe2.

I plan to use a removable hard drive to run Windows when I want to use the video capture card.

I'll swap the drive out and put a special Mac drive in when I'm running Leopard.

Will I have to somehow disable or even completely remove my video capture card in order to get my BadAxe2 system running system running with Leopard? I hope not. If so, then I guess I will have to put my video capture card in my Linux box.

Let me know what you guys think.

Cheers.

OK well since i did not want to pay the insane DDR3 prices, my Bonetrail motherboard is sitting in its box waiting for the day when DDR3 is affordable, so I decided that since i had this really nice QX9650 processor sitting here I might as well build something with it and since the cost of an Asus Maximus Formula AND 4 gigs of GSkill memory was about the same as 2 gigs of DDR3 I pulled the trigger.

Well after a coulple of days ironing out the kinks and getting everything stable....here are the benchmarks..... I would say that 7861 Geekbench is pretty darn good wouldnt you? ;) ..... P.S. I am water cooled and overclocked to 4.05 GHz

I know this is not BAdAxe2 related but since i hang out in this thread a lot I thought I would share these successes with you guys.

Hello Weaksauce and Team scream,

do you have any hint ?

I have it basically all up and running, just the kernelpanics when I import or export Large files as wellas copying big files or many small ones.

Badaxe 2

E6600

8 gigs ram

10.5.2 + grafix

what could that be ?

EDIT:

I tryed 4 gigs of ram and it works fine.

I cant figure out why it doesent with 8 gigs =(

thanks a lot for any hints

Hi,

Why don't you take that 4G that you left in your computer and replace it with the 4G that you took out. If it fails or you get the kernel panics, then you probably do have some bad RAM.

Cheers.
