Hi Patrick,

That zip file you attached was empty.

Can you post another one OR tell me where I can get it?

Please let me know.

Cheers.

Hmmm.... that's weird - it's been chopped down to 180 bytes. Used to be bigger and I compared it to what I downloaded before and clearly the file's now empty. Here it is again...

I'll give this a try on my spare drive and let you know if it works...it'd be great if it did! Any issues with your install overall so far?

- i´ve first installed leo from the iatkos 1.02r on a separate bootable usb drive. from this leo installation, i´ve partitioned a whole internal hdd in guid and installed efi 8 (i_am_me method: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=73952)

- setting the installation partition as bootable(just for our board it´s a little bit complicated) using this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=74705 , after success installed efi_v74

- after testing if it´s active, reinstalled efi_v8 again on top

- test if you can boot this partition again, you will get something like "apple..plist not found..", if yes, you can start installing leo from the original leo dvd. i mounted, using of course the previous usb-hdd-iatkos-installation, a *.dmg file from hdd because it´s faster! The *dmg ist 6,6GB for the retail leo..

qote zzac´s post:

Create guid partition , patch efi and mount a DVD within Leo (MBR).

Open terminal and type

cd /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Installation/Packages (enter)

open osinstall.mpkg (enter)

Then, you will see the familiar pop-up window , choose guid partition disk and install.

end of qote

after the installation was sucessful:

delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext

add dsmos.kext (from forums)

try to boot now, it should work

change AppleSMBIOS.kext (optional, if you want to have the correct cpu speed) (from efi_pack)

IONetworkingfamily.kext (from iatkos)

IOATAFamily.kext (iatkos)

appleAHCIPort.kext (iatkos, modified myself)

sounddriver....depends..

i added in the boot.plist my hex string for my evga7900gs

everything works fine, even sleep after adding the correct gfx card string into the boot.plist and deleting the natit.kext

-standby within seconds

-timemachine

-all drives work

-"patchless" adobe ps3 installation

-grafics without natit

-guid formatted hdd

-xbench can upload scores

-machine is called "mac pro"

did you try -f as boot option? just to test the kext? it will be forced to load.

Hi apoo!

I tried your technique for the additional sata-ports on Marvell. Without luck so far. My system hangs after the marvell-controller shows up on boot and it stays there at "94" in the lower right corner of the screen where it normaly turns to "0" and the GUID- or EFI Bootblock turns over...

I think this may have to do with the additional Highpoint RAID-Card i have installed or with my Marvell Firmware (1.1.0.34), i will try to get another firmware to the controller, but i didn't have any windows (which is needed for updating the controller-bios).

I think some of the newer 8800 GTS 512mb cards are G92 models...if that's the case then you'll need a specific driver for your model from 10.5.2, I think.

On a related note, it seems that people are having tons of problems with 512mb video cards of any type. Just a heads up for future buyers.

The reason I bought this card is because I saw it as an option in in apple.com when configuring a mac pro - BUT what I didn't realize is that the one there, is a

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB not a GTS :-( MY BAD!

Do you know of anyone that has made the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB work properly?

Mine keeps freezing the system when doing any intense drawing. Like the "retouching" option in iPhoto for example.

Is it worth waiting for support on this card, or better sell it and get another one that works 100%??? This Machine will be used intensively with Final Cut.

Thanks for your advice!!

Totally off topic but is it possible to make bootcamp work with a hackintosh? I know I can dual boot and I'm doing it but when I quit osx and reboot the computer, the time in the bios has changed for some reason. When windows vista boots up it shows the incorrect time.

No. BootCamp is not compatible with a Hackintosh - in fact, in a way it's the inverse of EFI...

The reason your clock is off is that Macs run on GMT and PCs run on local time. There are fixes for this - simplest might be to just change one of your OS's timezones to be the correct time...

Otherwise, do a search here. The truth is out there...

Ok. I have done installation now few times and all I get is a blinking cursor..? This isnt normal I guess. Hardware is just the same than others have. So is there any help for this? Is it because of that 5.2 efi?

Blinking cursor? Did you build the image using your own Leopard rip on Tiger?

In other news, I absolutely love this machine! I love hitting my VMware button and launching a dual-core XP VM with 3 gigs of ram...and it doesn't even make a dent on my system! Hahahaha...

Are you using a virtual drive for this?

I'm using VMware Fusion, which I would definitely recommend over Parallels. You can specify 1 or 2 cores plus how much RAM you want to use. Basically it creates a virtual hard drive (a file) that it runs the OS from. I keep that file on a second hard drive, that way Windows has it's own drive to read/write off of and it doesn't slow down my OS X boot drive at all.

Yes.. Huh.. The problem was I wrote PATCHER as Patcher.. Interesting. But cool now it works..

Hah...I'll be sure to note that as "case sensitive" in the next guide revision :(

A few audio recommendations:

1. Griffin iMic: $40 http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic

2. Creative-Labs Xmod USB Sound Module: $75 http://tinyurl.com/3aetp2

3. M-Audio Transit TOSlink: $80 http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOTRANSIT

Recommendations with Caveats:

1. BA2 Onboard Audio: Volume Control works, but Mute/Mic does not

2. USB "SC16" eBay audio stick: Input/Output works plus Mute, but Volume Control via keyboard does not

More recommendations here:

Bottom line, it seems that any USB or Firewire audio system made for Mac will work on a Hackintosh (knock on wood). Some PCI Express and PCI cards work; it seems that the M-Audio PCI line does not work (Delta 410, 7.1 Revolution).

Only DVD that worked fine for me was Kalyway 10.5.1

- at the install ONLY selecting EFI MBR option. All the other options deselected.

Lead me to a successfull install.

Heya Nano,

Can you elaborate on your method a little bit?

I have a perfectly stable Hackintosh running on an Asus P5K-VM with a QX6800 quad and 2 gigs of ram and everything is working, now I want to try and get my BadAxe2 system on Hackintosh but have had nothing but trouble with this (weaksauce) method (sorry sauce, I am trying hard to follow your instructions to the T but I get nowhere).

I have the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD and thats what I used to get my first system up and running, I did not have to do ANYTHING other than partition the drive and install the Kalyway 10.5.1, within 20 minutes I was at the desktop installing Firefox.

Please let me know what you did using the Kalyway DVD to get your BadAxe2 up and running PLEASE!

Sauce, if you want a project, PLEASE let me know, I am out of work right now due to the writers strike so I have some time on my hands and would love to get this working on my BadAxe2 system.

Hi weaksauce, what temps are you getting when running OC'd? I'm using an overclocked E4300 right now but considering a move to the Q6600. I've got a Scythe Andy Samurai Master cooler (yes - I chose it for the lame name :dance_24: - and I'm not a huge fan of giant tower coolers) waiting to be installed but may wait till I get the quad (currently running with Zalman CNPS8000).

Oh and weaksauce, thanks for the EFI guide + patcher which proved very useful even though I didn't follow your guide to the letter.

I actually built my current config using a bought copy of Leopard and the Brazilmac patch and used for a couple of months before going EFI. To get to where I am now I cloned my working non-vanilla system drive and then used your patcher to get me EFI'd.

I found this route much quicker as I didn't have to wait around booting off the DVD in order to run the patcher from the memory stick - simply boot into the old HDD, unmount the new HDD, patch it, remount it and then change boot priority in BIOS. Sweet!

Also, I heartily recommend maintaining a recent clone of your system drive when doing the hackintosh thing. You know it makes sense.

This is maybe a stupid question but I have to ask it.. I am now using this wlan adapter "Zydas USB chipset" and when I install those 2 kexts to the extensions folder, system wont shutdown anymore. It freezes everytime. So how can I fix this problem? What do I need..

And I also would like to know what temperature apps people are using? All I get is hd temp by istat..

Edit: Ok.. I can clear this by shutting down that kext everytime I shutdown..

Sent you a PM. I believe there are variations in the board between hardware revisions that make things a little funky for some people...there are at least 4-5 people out of the 40 or so using this guide that just can't get it working for reasons unknown...

@ nano2nd, no problem on not using my guide 100% - it doesn't seem to work for everyone. Hopefully we can work through everyone's issues and get that resolved, though! :)

Yeah - I already had a working build, just needed a solid EFI implementation for the BX2. I repeated the process on another build based on the ECS945GZT-M and E2160 (a new Hack I built out of my old bits plus a new budget C2D processor). This one is also rock solid now.

So weaksauce12, how about those temps when overclocked? Enquiring minds need to know!
