djchaos82
Works nearly perfect, THANKS! My only problem: When i use gfx-strings i get a totally pixelated screen. I can choose the resulution but its pixelated as hell... rmj134
So I finally got it running!!! I used ToH and the post patch. I ended up having to type each line out of the patch to see that everything really did succeed. Originally, I didnt replace the IOATA kext, but I got the "still waiting for root device". Going back, and replacing IOATA fixed this. Here's my problem. If I run geekbench, it comes back saying "Model : Hackintosh". Does that mean that I am missing something? Does that also mean that I wont be able to do a seamless update to 10.5.1? If so, what is needed? I dont want to get all excited about the new Mac until I know that I can do updates without screwing up the OS. Thanks... almost there. UPDATE : I went ahead and updated to 10.5.1 using the official apple update. No problems other than my graphics card kexts being written over (GMA950). I was able to get new files from this post : http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...4&hl=update
Groffy77
When I start-up I get the message telling me to restart each time no matter what. I booted into verbose mode and I got this and it just hangs there with this.. What can I do to successfully boot and avoid this? Does anyone know how to solve this issue.. ? =)
Arsenicson
With the EFI v8 zip file at the beginning of this thread (contains pre and post install patches), can we install using our retail Leopard DVD's, or do we have to use BrazilMac or ToH patched discs? I may sound stupid, but the same question is of interest to me too Suppose I make guid partition and install EFI from under Tiger (like in method 1) I don't need any dual boot, just plain clean install onto the HD i've just prepared. Can i use the original unpatched Leopard installation ?
steadybootleggin
alright.... i got this install working...... i followed I am..me's guide using brazimac install dvd ,usb flashdrive and pc efi v8 but at first it would not boot.... then i used onetracks method for removing and installing the various .kext without the efi part and it worked beautiful ! but now i no longer have ''wake from sleep'', i checked my bios and everything is in order.... it is not a big deal though... the hackintosh is a work computer and it only stays on when i'm there( less than 35 hours a week)... and the display still sleeps so that is what really counts.... monday i'll try a couple of other things then i'll update my sig and post on the compatibility list ( would not wanna mislead anyone ).... so to sum it up i used this method to install efi v8/guid partition scheme and onetrack's method for the rest......... i_am...me
In installed ToH before i saw this guide and now installed EFI v8. I have an MBR partition scheme. Do I need to reinstall with a GUID scheme? I have a 400GB drive with 100GB for Leopard. Can I go ahead and install Linux and Windows in the remaining 300GB...how will it affect the EFI? Do I need a new bootloader?Yes you do, as it needs to write a completely different partition table.Hi allOk i have installed TOH RC2 straight from the disk using method 2.Manged to get the EFI.sh script installed on my drive ok. After Full reboot of the installed OS X where and when do i install the postpast.sh .. and what bits do i edit no to sure as there different from the EFI.sh my main drive where i installed osx is called "osx" disk id "disk0s1" the pen drive i used was called "HAGGIS" disk id "disk6s1"Sorry for sounding stupid just trying to get my head around all this1 more thing should i have installed the script from the TOH dvd that installs the Darwin boot loader ?????You should edit the shell in text edit or notepad then apply it in the DVD.Hello I am...me !Thank you very much for your post script.I have a running 10.5.1 System on an Asus P5WDH Deluxe+Sapphire 1950 XT+Intel Q6600 Quad cpu (brazilmac-vanilla kernel-pc_efi_v8, guid partition)Before I ran the script the sytem wasn´t very stable. In "About this mac" there were no platform informations, cpu rate was not shown correctly.Than I ran the script, now I have MacPro, "About this Mac" and System Profiler shows everything in the right way, only one thing is missing..,the Q6600 Quad core is displayed as unknown cpu. Do you have an idea how I could fix this ? Is it a small problem, than I could leave it as it is, or can I have a problem with 64 bit mode ?And I have a question: Did you patch the mach_kernel too, or have I still the vanilla kernel ? I booted today with the vanilla kernel and it works fine. The the Activity monitor recognizes all 4 cores, I tried Logic studio yesterday and the program runs very fast..Thanks to all that helped me to make it possible..I would like to help others in the comunity too, if I canGreetings !GaryYour welcomeVanilla Kernel and edit the Loginwindow. search you will find out howshould the post patch be installed in the -s mode in darwin bootloader or after i boot in to the install DVD and in Terminalin the dvdWorks great mate thx. only issue i have once i try and install the 5.1 update it installs reboots and all i get after is a apple logo and a spinning circle on the screen stays there for ever . there is no cross through it like a normal issue. any ideas ???*****UPDATE*****ok i restarted the thing. tried a F8 and -V to see the issue hangs at this point Any ideasNetwork problemSo I finally got it running!!! socal swimmer
Hey I recently installed leopard using brazilmac and your guide, and everything is working great. However, I was not sure exactly what to do regarding dual-booting. I used disk utilty to make a 50 GB partition on my main GUID Hard Drive (leopare is installed on the first partition). Then, I restored a vista install from a second hard drive to the 50 GB partition on my main hard drive. Once that was done, I shut down, and as it was starting up, I hit F8 to get boot options. It says "Use <arrow keys> to select the startup volume: hd(0.1) hd(0,2) Mac OS X Leopard hd(0,3) Foreign Boot" Mac OS X Leopard is my leopard install, and Foreign Boot is the hard drive with the cloned Vista install. I select Foreign Boot, and it goes to this: "Dwarwin/x86 boot v5.0.132 2046MB memory VESA v3.0 256MB (NVIDIA) |<blinking cursor underneath>" and it just sits there forever. I'm assuming I need a bootloader or something. Where should I go from here? btw, I included your method in my full install guide for the GA P35-DS3P, and I gave you credit. Thank you so much! EDIT: If you would like I can write a guide to dual booting for you to put in your original post, assuming I get it working myself.

Then i'm planning to insert this new empty GUID-partitioned EFI-enabled HD into another computer to make an absolutely clean Leopard install without any dual-booting with windows or other god-awful stuff. Question is - do i still need a patched Leopard DVD, or an original one will work? Thanks in advance, i really do appreciate you answering me and anyone else
steadybootleggin
@ I_am...me do you think that a hd can be formated with GUID and then afterwards leopard can be restored from time machine, then from the install dvd terminal apply the efi v8?....because time machine erases a hd before it restores an install, would it erase the partition scheme? and can you post-apply startupfiletool/efi v8 ? acideraser
I_am..me, thank you for the guide,. However I cannot boot finally into Leo - have no idea what to do now so I really hope you could help. I made GUID, installed pc_efi_v8 - (commands inputed manually but according to the EFI.sh. Couldnot run script after editing) EFI was installed, I checked. Then Installed from BrazilMac patched DVD, apllied 9a581 postpatch, restarted. all worked fine, then grey screen when first booting into Leo asking to restart I removed (.post) step by step following kexts: AppleEFIRuntime.kext, rebooted - no gray screen but loading freezes AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext, rebooted - loading freezes bootcache.kext - same result then removed Extensions.mkext from /Library Still cannot load Leopard My mobo is Asus P5K. I don't have AHCI in SATA config, only IDE - maybe this is the reason? But I don't think BIOS settings matter after I have EFI installed. Cofig is: Proc is E6750 c2d 2.66GHz Leopard drive is IDE 120GB drive plugged via IDE2SATA converter Please please please - really need yr help cos I'm stuck here is my screen when it stops loading: P.S. acideraser
IDE bad, AHCI good what is your hardware? It is always a good idea to post your hardware in you signature. Done. Btw I used yr guide to install leo (5th try already) so thanks a lot for really detailed guide. Now you can see my specs in signature -hardware seems to be ok for OSX. sorry abt picture - I removed it but attached another one. I get this: "localhost WindowServer[77]: GetOurLSSessionIDInit(), returned error 0xe2, securitySessionID=0x0 attrs=0 uid=0 euid=0. cf Radar 5123589" So I fixed JMicron controller by changing JMicronATA.kext on Leopard hdd, booted frm DVD. Quite get used to DVD shell by now When Leo HDD is on Intel ICH9 SATA controller via SATA2IDE convertor I get the above line. When switched to JMicron IDE - still the same line. w0lfm4n
Great guide. I have been wanting to get dual booting done for a while and this did the trick!!. Two questions though: 1.) Using the latest parallels environment, I get a boot error when I try to start up the VISTA partition. Is this b/c I installed Vista 64 bit or just that Parallels doesn't support guid?? 2.) When I boot my machine and press F8 to select an alternate O/S, I have three entries. The first leads to booting nothing...a dead end. The second is MAC and the 3rd is VISTA as they should be. Is there any way to list out these entries and remove the bogus entry?? Thanks again for the great work and help W0lfm4n
