Hey all, heres the problem. My leopard install dvd boots into the installer, but when I get into the disk utility, the installer freezes when I try to erase the partion I put aside for leopard. Installation went flawlessly on my laptop, but having some trouble with my desktop.

I have deleted it by booting Leopard with the -x switch and using Finder to go to /System/Library/Extensions/.

that is the safe mode option right? i cant boot on safe mode too.. the setup assistant is just looping for me.. after choosing not to transfer info on the migration assistant it just keeps going back to detecting the keyboard and forever..

is there any other option? thanks ^_^

But if i disable legacy wont it be impossible to use them? Cause on my computer you must press F1 to continue into booting.

Give it a shot, the worst that will happen is it still wont work. I'll try when I get home tonight too, since we're both having the same issue.

I wish Intel hadn't delayed the new 45nm chips. I'd like to go efi & vanilla and be done with all the headaches. I'm hoiping the chips are out by February. iAtkos should be seeded by then.

hi all,

Installed successfully on my IDE but jus a few issues the IDE access speed is ard 6.5 mb/sec wich is surely very slow.!!

Have searched the forum and found that AppleNForceATA.kesxt is the culprit. So Tried a few different suggested methods to add the device id from the forum , but nothing worked.I am a little confused by the guides

* What changes shd i make to the kext ?

* where shd i place the kext in extensions or IOATAfamily.kext/contents/plugins/ ?

AMD 4600+ AM2

Asus M2N-E Nforce 570

Seagate 160 gb IDE

Partition 1 - 20 gb (XP)

Partition 2 - 30 gb (Leopard)

I guess you can boot using the DVD, open Terminal, mount the filesystem and delete it from there. There are some instructions around here for that. However, it probably won't fix your looping migration assistant problem, just the kernel panic.

Hi, I solved this problem reading from another forum. If your keyboard works initially and you can't go past the transfer of information, it is because you don't have a running network card(or it can't find any network), so it loops back to the keyboard thingy. I tried using an old intel pci nic and it works like magic! Im posting this now on safari.. now to make sound and qe/qc working.. :D

are you sure? i have 2 cards, one marvell yukon, the other is an nforce...

in the bootup i see the network card's mac adress and something with macyuk... or something dropping by...

i'm now doing a fresh install with network disabled see what it does...

if that doesn't work, i'll make room in my pc for some other nic.

and just to be sure; what happens is that i boot in safe mode, i get the keyboard thingy, i continue and at the creation of an account it simply stops...

it doesn't continue, and only says: creating account.

Ok well I was gonna go do that like you said deadghost,

but My startup is also looping, it asks for me to press keys on my keyboard,

then asks keyboard type, then a few more things, then it goes all the way back to the begining again...

And you had metioned to boot from the DVD.

How do you boor from DVD?

well i fixed it indeed with a supported nic, i disabled my nforce nic and suddenly it went on...

so now i need to get rid of safe mode... but i am in osx now.

about the looping thing, i myself never had a loop, it just hung on creating account until i resetted the pc,

at this moment i'm using logitec wireless keyboard/mouse..

keyboard is connected via usb, mouse via ps2

further i used a marvell yukon ( onboard )nic. to getr trough the registration.

i hope someone can use this info.

Wow,

There appears to be a lot of people int he last 5 pages or so who havent even tried to read this thread. Zepy must be getting irritated. if you have the kernal panic its simple to fix. I did it, and I am a newb.

here is step by step for dummies :)

1.boot with -s, wait for it to bring up a prompt

2. it will say something about disk is read only and to write to it type something like

/sbin/fsck blah blah

/sbin/ blah blah

YOU HAVE TO TYPE IN BOTH SETS OF INSTRUCTIONS. The second after the first gets done checking the dsk

3. type cd /System/Library/Extensions

4.when it tells u it has loaded the folder, type rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/GeForce.kext

It wont say anything itll just do it. Itll only say something if you screwed up.

5. type exit, and watch os x load up

EDIT:

Also, the keyboard/mouse gig I covered back on page 30 or something on how I got mine to work. I also use a usb, which I recommend. But if you dont want to look for my post. Good luck.

Did you get an IP address from your network card? Maybe the kexts detected your card but doesn't have the right device IDs.. Im not sure though coz I am a noob..

k, i'm trying to follow SnipinTerminator's guide on the first page, but i'm stuck at the part where you're supposed to make your new partition active in diskpart. i get a message saying something about there being insufficient space. is there a way to prep this partition for os x?

also, i tried booting the amd dvd installation disk, but when the ask for a destination, my hard drive doesn't show up. i've checked the disk utility, and it doesn't show up there either... i've also tried changing hdd settings in BIOS, but i can't find any... @_@ any help?

i'm running a Dell Inspiron 1521, AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-56 (SSE3) with an ATA HDD (i think). i'm trying to get a triple boot with vista/ubuntu/osx, so i have some experience with grub, etc.

I've read every page of this thread at least twice and I'm about to give up.

- Followed the tutorials to the letter

- Installed fine but I get the blinking cursor when I try to boot

- Did the whole fdisk song and dance, including the startuptool version

- If I try to boot with the DVD in the computer reboots itself

- If I try to boot into safe mode it boots to the installer screen

To be honest this is my first OSX86 go - perhaps I will have better luck with a Tiger install or should I hold out for version 2? Can someone reccomend me the best Tiger ISO for my setup please? Here are my relevant specs:

VIA KT800 board - I have both IDE and SATA drives I can install to.

AMD 4200 dual core SSE3 CPU

Geforce 7600 512MB

Thanks everyone.
