I have been trying to update my BIOS from 2602 to 2704 in order to install via the Boot 132 method, but I cannot find the EZ Flash 2 utility.

I have a USB pen drive formatted as FAT32 with just the 2704 ROM on it.

The EZ flash utility is not located under the Tools menu in the BIOS (with or without the pen drive) and when I press <Alt> + <F2> (supposedly and alternative way) it just boots into my primary boot disc.

I have used the utility to do a previous update, but now its nowhere to be found.

Can anyone help?

boot camp, you put name P5WDH.ROM at your rom'??? if not, is not recognyzed.

use this rom better.

Thanks for the reply Derty, but I'm still having the same problem. When you go into your BIOS on the P5W DH Deluxe and go to the Tools menu is the Asus EZ Flash there?

Mine just looks like this (with or without a USB stick formatted as FAT32 with the P5WDH.ROM on root):

It's not that the EZ Flash cannot read the ROM, I cannot even get to the EZ Flash tool.

I have reset all settings to default and still get the same results....

Because there is in no possible way I can find the "ASUS EZ Flash 2" tool, I just decided to use AFUDOS and flashed the ROM that Derty gave me. That bumped my BIOS version up to 2801 and I thought that would solve my problem of getting the gray screen when booting from retail leopard, well it didn't.

Some things that caught my eye when in -v:

localhost com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.systemstarter) : Failed to count the number of files in "/System/Library/StartupItems" : No such file or directory

AppleHDA.kext failed to load : Unable to locate 'layout-id'

AppleHDAController :: Start ERROR no layout-id found

. . . mebbe you've been pushing the envelope a bit with this excellent but elderly mobo: suggest you take some RAM out &/or bring the FSB down to default.

. . remove power-cord, press the on-button for a moment, then clear the CMOS.

Plug in, start, enter BIOS & load BIOS defaults, then restart & put your own settings in - you *should* see EZ-Flash in 'Tools' by then.

Thank you, it worked! I now have ASUS EZ Flash 2 back. +2 rep

But I re-entered all of the correct BIOS settings again in order to boot the leopard retail disc and it still gets the gray screen....................

. . . same errors?

I have a genuine retail 10.5.0 DVD & it works fine on this P5W DH: the mobo uses an Intel AHCI host [iCH7] for which OSX has built-in support.

Can you run this DVD on another machine? Is it made from a d/l image? If so, have you checked the image's md5?

If you are certain the DVD works - & I mean *certain* not hopeful - then the next step is to make sure that neither the DVD-reader nor the target HDD are plugged into any of the jmicron or 'EZ-RAID' SATA ports.

If you're certain about these things; then please report your current error messages when trying to run the retail DVD after using a known-good boot-132 disk.

Yes I get the same errors and I'm using a genuine 10.5.1 DVD. I have used an ISO of my genuine DVD to install via Brazilian and my current Leopard installation can see and read the DVD as a Leopard installation disc.

My DVD reader is not plugged into the jmicron or 'EZ-RAID' SATA ports. But I have two hard drives (my current leopard installation) in both the 'EZ-RAID' SATA ports running in hardware RAID. I have tried booting the from the 10.5.1 DVD with the setting "EZ_Raid Mode change" enabled, but still get the same results......

Do the 'EZ-RAID' SATA ports cause problems when booting with boot-132? They worked fine with other distros.

. . . P5W DH's hardware RAID works fine for me. I have a retail install, made via boot132 & so on, on a RAID volume of 2x Raptors.

Perhaps it might be a good idea to strip the system right down to one known-good DVD-reader & one known-good AHCI SATA HDD off the Intel ICH7; all USB devices [bar k/b & mouse] unplugged & so on.

. . use something known-good like the bootable Linux 'Parted Magic' to initialise one MSDOS volume on this HDD, format as FAT32 or NTFS.

. . then see if the install DVD will see & repartition/format this.

Your BIOS settings seem OK [iMHO too much fuss is made about this: there are only three or four vital settings]. As you know, this sort of hassle usually boils down to some durh moment, even for the oldest among us . . . .

Has anyone been able to make sound work on a p5w dh Deluxe motherboard with the latest ideneb 1.5?

The driver for 882 that comes with the distro simply doesn't works.

I have made an install without sound drivers and then installed the VoodooHda driver, but sound output is very limited, no optical digital out working. So i am back to ideneb 1.3 (10.5.5)

My system is all working wit 10.5.7 except for sound, is there a solution for this problem?

Or can someone tell me about a working sound kext, or wich ones to delete if necessary.

Help please!

I have tried everything and nothing works! I've disconnected my hard drives from the EZ RAID ports and disconnected my other hard drive.....but get the same results for both. Unplugged all usb devices, including the Wi-fi antenna. I've changed the SATA port of the DVD drive and have tried numerous Boot-132 discs (I even made my own). Changed BIOS versions multiple times and messed around in the BIOS for hours and haven't made any progress.....I even booted up Kalyway 10.5.1, just to see if that would work, thankfully it did.

I did what you told me and created an MSDOS partition in FAT32 using 'Parted Magic' on my Windows hard drive, but still get the same errors......

Ah, this is driving me mad.....

Do the boot-132 CDs get you to a prompt? Can you spin up the Apple DVD?

Yes, it gets me to a prompt. I insert the Leopard DVD, wait for the DVD drive to stop activity. Hit [Enter], it then asks if I want to boot from first hard drive (80), second hard (81) or hexadecimal boot device (fe). I just hit [Enter] and then a prompt comes up for the Leopard DVD, I either hit [F8] for more options and then enter -v for verbose or just [Enter]. The darwin loader loads the disc, the disc starts spinning and brings up the white apple screen if I did not choose verbose. It will load for almost two minutes before getting the gray reset screen.

Having chosen verbose, using only macita's boot-132 [let's remove a variable], what are the final messages before it all goes titsup?

BSD root: disk 2s3, Major 14, Minor 9

localhost mDNSResponder[48]: getHelperPort: cannot contact helper

Aug 8 04:58:49 localhost Kextd[47]: root filesystem is read-only kernel link data generation

Aug 8 04:58:50 localhost com.apple.launched[1] (com.apple.SystemStarter): Failed to count the number of files in "/System/Library/StartupItems": No such file or directory

AppleHDAController:: Start ERROR no layout-id found

AppleHDA.kext failed to load: Unable to locate 'layout-id' property
