1. After power up, press "ALT+F2" for EzFlash(?) Utility.

You can see EzFlash(?) Screen and check ROM BIOS is O.K.

2. If you have USB Stick or CD-ROM, download ROM File from ASUS Web Site and copy ROM file as "P5WDH.ROM".

You can update ROM BIOS automatically, if your ROM bios crashed or you can use No.1 way.

Try,

Yes i have. I've tried the following

1. CPU+GPU+RAM+ mobo

2. CPU+GPU+ mobo

3. CPU + mobo

I have tried all options using 2 different PSUs. Result was the same. Heatsink fan, green led light, no beeps.

Pressing del, F1 and ESC wouldn't help either.

I think im gonna give up on this one. €55 (~ $75 US) down the drain :/

I am getting EP45-DS3R instead and hopefully i will post this on my new hack.

hey guys,

Hope you all can help me. ive been having EXTREMELY slow boot times. At the first boot screen it hangs there for a good minute before moving on. When ever I press Del to go into bios setup, EVERYTHING is slow to load. Just moving around in Setup takes forever. No idea what is wrong. I've upgraded the bios as well as reset the cmos.

Any help is appreciated

I currently have 10.5.3 installed on this system and Windows Xp

Specs:

ASUS P5W DH Deluxe

EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB SATA 3.0 gb/s<

Kalyway 10.5.1 installed, all working 100%, used NVinject 0.21 for graphics

Bios Settings for booting Mac:

-Go to IDE configuration and change the ide/sata mode to AHCI

-Enable "Execute Disable function"

-Turn off Speedstep Settings (unless you plan to use a hacked speedstep kernel)

-Change the Jmicron Controller to AHCI (only if you are using Jmicron,

otherwise, disable it)

-MicroCode Update: Enabled

-Max CPUID Limite: Enabled

-ACPI2 support : yes

-ACPI APIC: Enabled

-Suspend mode: S3

I press F5 Load defaults to switch back to Windows XP

for BIOS; update it , enter BIOS Settings, then load optimized default, then F10( save and reboot), and enter BIOS setting again, and 2 things : IDE ---- AHCI

execute disable function --- enabled

that's all

Credits goes to aliab and his wonderfull easy simple retail installation method --- Thank you ALIAB ( merci aliab ;) )

Thanks for input Mr. Light, i did what you've suggested but unfortunately to no avail.

I have another 650W LC Power PSU from my AMD config i connected it to the P5W dh board and tried to start but the result was the same.

Green light on.

No beeping.

CPU fan (heatsink) rotating

GPU fan rotating (7600 GS, i have 8800GT for this config, both cards work ok).

What more can i do before i pronounce this mobo dead? Furthermore with what certainty can i claim this mobo DOA?

Mostly likely what you have is a corrupt BIOS chip. It IS possible to replace these and in one case I found by searching the Internet, if you have another P5W you can actually reflash these yourself. If you were to send the board in to ASUS I think all they do is replace the chip. This is assuming that something else is not "gone" on the board though.

I just made the jump to a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R board myself and couldn't be happier. It has its quirks and is not perfect but it flies! Took everything I had in the P5W and transplanted it directly into the Gigabyte board. My Geekbench scores shot up from 5600 to over 7100!

Took the board to the dealer and he took it in under warranty after my desc. of a problem.

I might just wait and see what is going to happen next. Going to give about a week or so after that i am moving to new mobo.

Thanks, Ritz and bigpoppa.

If i ever encounter this kind of problems i am going to give it shot. Somehow i doubt that even your suggestions might bring it to life but you never know.

Will report later on what is happening and post some pics lol. My room is such a mess right now.

Nothing to do aliab.....

NO one SMBIOS risolver or EFI at moment will solve the problem....

i posted the problem to a friend in a chameleon group developper.... problem will be solved with new chameleon, so lets wait a bit!

When downloading the newest bios from the Asus site it asked me what kind of OS do i have.

I have selected "Others" and started downloading newest bios (2801). Is selection of the OS (since i plan to run OS X) ok or should i selected something else? Does it really matter or is this insignificant?

Using "EZ Flash" it constantly uses the word "floppy". Can you run this update on usb key or do i need 3.5" floppy disk connected to the motherboard?

Anything else i should pay attention to?

IPC is not a good release for this board

i suggest you just use this release to create a temporary system on a partition you 'll trash further in order to do a retail install (you can use the Extension.mpkg and the tuto in french i've post)

To install IPC you have to select (you do not need others options on this board unless you are using PS/2)

I'm trying to do a vanilla install on my P5W DH Deluxe board (I have a working 10.5.5 via iDeneb on another partition on this machine)

Here's what I'm doing and what happens:

  1. Format drive as Mac OS extended (journaled)
  2. Mount my 10.5 retail DVD image and run the OSInstall.mpkg and install on the drive
  3. Install AppleDecrypt.kext, Disabler.kext, OpenHaltRestart.kext and PC_EFI v9 Chameleon Edition 1.0.12 (used Universal OSx86 Installer)
  4. Boot up, it works. Ethernet, "generic" graphics (vesa mode, I think)
  5. Install 10.5.6 update, boot up, it works same graphics issue as #4
  6. Install NVkush, system hangs at desktop before icons (Finder) and Dock load up.

Not sure what i'm missing... BIOS settings work on my 10.5.5. install so I haven't messed with them.

I don't think I need a DSDT.aml file for this board, do I? USB seems to work -- at least well enough for keyboard and mouse, haven't tested transfer speeds to external drives.

See anything else I'm missing?

Please let me know if you do. I'm hoping to get a vanilla (or as close as possible) install going to help me better understand the process as opposed to just waiting for some distro to do it for me.

Thanks

LJS

Try this simple Retail install method i've already posted to the french forum

This board is the most compatible (for the moment !) and does not require as many mods as other boards

Some keyboards are not working (do not wake), i suggest Apple Alu

is someone else getting this problem?

kernel_task runs wild after a while - it goes up to 100% CPU usage and more.

I googled and found no real fix for that but lot of threads even on real macs.

i deleted chaches etc. but nothing changed - this occurs on two installations.

after reboot everything is fine - sometimes for over and hour but most of the time after 15-20

minutes it runs wild while i just used mail or safari.

ok guys i need some help here.

Ive got a P5W DH Deluxe. Lately it has been running extremely slow. The first boot screen takes about 4 minutes to go away. When i press del and go to the setup menu, it takes forever to navigate around, the menu loads slowly. Even the timer in the darwin bootloader that counts down from 8, takes about 60 seconds to count down.

Also I noticed that the windows clock seems to be affected. When ever i restart the clock resets to 1200.

Pleaseeee help me with this problem.

I'm not sure about what to do with mkext maker -- do I need to make an extensions.mkext with the "extras" extensions you linked? Or just use it to unpack the Extensions.mkext that you linked? Or is there something else I should do? Sorry to sound noobish, but I've never done that part before. Please post step-by-step instructions for that part if you can!

Thanks!

Just use the one i posted, not necessary to deal with mkextMaker unless you want to configure your own

@ Acidic ; just make a new fresh retail install,

it's easy to import all your settings, docs and apps after the install with the migration assistant in Utilities folder

Hi all

I'm trying to find a simple guide on how to do a retail install on this motherboard.

Can anyone point me towards one?

I had iAtkos 4i (upgraded to 10.5.5) working well until recently (hard disk failed).

I was going to restore from a time machine backup, then figured I might as well try a retail install.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just use the one i posted, not necessary to deal with mkextMaker unless you want to configure your own

Had some difficulty here's what I did (from memory, so excuse if the details aren't totally fleshed-out)

  • Installed Mac OS X up to 10.5.6 using my retail DVD and combo updater.
  • Installed EFI/Chameleon with UInstaller --also added boot timeout of 5 secs and EFI string for my nVidia 7300 GT.
  • I put the Extensions.mkext you made in /extras, wouldn't boot. Hung at mdnsresponder...blah...blah...
  • Tried extracting the mkext file to it's individual kexts and put them in /extras, same result
  • Tried moving extracted kexts in /System/Library/Extensions... seemed to get a little further, still wouldn't boot.
  • Removed all kexts that I extracted and installed kexts from UInstaller "essentials" kexts (disabler, AppleDecrypt, OpenHaltRestart). Installed them in /System/Library/Extensions -- Shouldn't it also work if I just put them in /extras?
  • It booted, everything worked except sound (and sleep...but I think that's just the way it is)
  • Tried to install the audio kexts from your package, still getting "no sound device".

Got tired at that point and went to sleep!

So --- If I can get working sound, I should be good to go at 10.5.6. Working sleep would be huge.. but I'm not holding my breath for that one (unless someone knows how to get that going).

Thanks!

I'm reinstalling my system to get rid of the kernel_task problem. But i can't use a retail and boot 132 because of my MBR partitions yet.

Why is IPC not a good release? Is it worse than Kalyway 10.5.1 and doing all updates?

I'm not sure if i should go 10.5.6 or not but i still have my 10.5.5 partition (with kernel_task problem available) .

So what would you recommend? Kalyway and 10.5.5 or IPC 10.5.6?

I don't have much time to decide that because i can't work with the kernel_task problem it causes real time 3D graphics to stutter. :P

I have a PCI firewire card and would do my audio work which needs a lot of firewire with my old f***ed up system anyway because i don't trust the digidesign drivers (they let coreaudiod crash) - so i could live with failing onboard firewire.

I haven't use UInstaller

i 'm using Trauma pack with Chameleon V12 (perhaps this make the difference)

Trauma

IPC install kext which aren't required by our board, so i prefer a retail vanilla install

The pack i've posted has been installed on several config with P5W DH Deluxe without problem

So i invite you to follow the procedure i described

could you describe what's your kernel_task problem ? i haven't meet with

Good Luck
