gary88
hello MrLight, your way to get it working didn´t work for me... I have still slow usb, and the half of the ports. Firewire is working, but I don´t know if it has full speed.. Hi Folks. I got USB working at totaly another way: short info: Kalyway 10.5.1 -> lot of updates -> 10.5.6 (Last Update via Pacifist) Kernel : Vanilla Bootloader: Standart board: P5W DH Deluxe ... 1.) I upodated my BIOS to the newest one! 2801 (I think ...) (Yes I know, for that You have to start Windows..) 2.) I go in BIOS Setup -> Advanced -> USB Configuration -> Legacy Support -> set to : [Enabled] reboot and everything is fine, even front USB is working fine! (High speed....) ------------------------------------------------------- Firewire is still away. :-( ------------------------------------------------------- Sleep is strange. If I go to sleep the Computer switch off totaly. Switching on doesnt bring Computer back. Does someone have the same expiriance? ------------------------------------------------------- Mr Light :-)
aliab
To get FireWire working on P5W DH Deluxe with 10.5.6 update you can delete AppleHPET.kext but it could be a problem with some applications ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Precision_Event_Timer
therhymer
I overrode AppleHPET.kext v 1.3 from 10.5.6 with v1.1 from my 10.5.5 kalyway install... by changing the version number of the 1.1 kext to 9.9 and putting it on my EFI partition sure enough internal firewire is fixed! many thanks for the tip! strangely i can't get kextstat to report either version as loaded... wierd... maybe that means its not loading? bigpoppa206
CONFIRMED! Installed the 1.1 version of AppleHPET.kext on my P5W and internal firewire is back!

therhymer
bigpoppa, does kextstat report v 1.1 as loaded for you? in terminal: kextstat -b com.apple.driver.AppleHPET
MrLight
Hi all 1.) About USB. I have normal Setup, as I wrote in Post before. 2.) About FireWire. I got it to work. simply remove 2 Kexts: AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and AppleHPET.kext. They are playing together. If You must to have Firewire. DON'T install the old one from 10.5.5. They will be not loaded in any case. (indipendet, what You write in the version.plsit....) I don't know if that is the perfect solution or not. There should be a better one. Mr Light :-)
therhymer
I'd like to know more about AppleHPET and what it does, and why the old version is not loaded. Also about its relationship with AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement, i think most of us have overridden or removed AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement alreday anyway... certainly putting the old version on the EFI partition with a higher version number works, but it seems like maybe it works by preventing either version from loading, and so has the same effect as removing the one in S/L/E this method allows me to maintain a 100% vanilla system folder though, even though its hacked from outside. aliab
BlackCH has made a disabler for AppleHPET preventing it from loading it is working from the extra folder I alsowould known more about HPET http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;st=
therhymer
thanks for posting aliab I'll try that! I had searched for AppleHPET and still not found that other thread...
bigpoppa206
bigpoppa, does kextstat report v 1.1 as loaded for you? in terminal: kextstat -b com.apple.driver.AppleHPET Hm, not seeing anything. Might not be loading but then as long as its not loading the new one, Firewire is working. Anyone else confirm that it is the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext causing the problem? Will the new AppleHPET.kext load without AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and give us Firewire? Followup: I don't even have AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext installed, the script inside v4.4 removes it! Second followup: installed a Startech firewire 800 card which IS seen by the OS...solid! therhymer
I have AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement disabled also I have not tried with it enabled. it used to cause KP on boot i think... i don't know what the link is between AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement and HPET anyway.... this is all very trial and error, I hope someone who actually understands can enlighten us... Reptar
I'm having serious problems getting USB to consistently load. I can do a clean install using iPC 10.5.6 and USB works the 1st reboot. Then on a restart, it goes dead. If a shutdown then start up it USB works (most of the time). If I add audio, Taruga, USB craps out and can't be recovered under any circumstances. I get errors during load (-v -f). Firewire seems ok. I'm running rock solid 10.5.5, but 10.5.6 seems like a no go. I know that are many of you who are far more knowledgeable than me, so any insights are appreciated. Hate to see this motherboard dead-ended at 10.5..5 EDIT: Removing AppleHPET.kext fixed the problems with USB, Firewire, and Audio as others have reported. Question is: what are the consequences of this in terms of running applications and overall stability?
bigpoppa206
Removing AppleHPET.kext fixed the problems with USB, Firewire, and Audio as others have reported. Question is: what are the consequences of this in terms of running applications and overall stability? That is why I chose to replace AppleHPET.kext 1.3 with a slightly older version (1.1) of the same thing. Dunno what it might break, so no use giving it any excuses. therhymer
I thought the same thing... but the older version doesn't load, so it's no use....

Paul Gleeson
Hi, Does anyone have a dsdt.aml file that compiles without warnings or errors for the P5W? I'm trying to update to 10.5.6 but having issues with the upgrade not being able to boot, as it is looking for the wrong disk. I think this maybe due to the fact I am using an Intel RAID for my windows disks. These are ignored by 10.5.5, but seems they confuse 10.5.6 into not finding any disks. Does anyone know what kext I need to change or delete? Thanks, Paul
bigpoppa206
Hi, Does anyone have a dsdt.aml file that compiles without warnings or errors for the P5W? I'm trying to update to 10.5.6 but having issues with the upgrade not being able to boot, as it is looking for the wrong disk. You don't need DSDT for the update to 10.5.6. That was only for the betas leading up to the release version. Can you see the disk in the BIOS?
Paul Gleeson
All the disks are visible to the BIOS and the Intel Matrix RAID. In 10.5.5 the OS recognises the non-RAID disks (SATA and USB) and popups an insertion error for the 2 disks in the Intel Matrix RAID. After dismissing this alert 10.5.5 works perfectly. Here are my disks, they can all been seen with disk utility. Disks 0 and 2 show no partitions. Disk 0 - Intel RAID Disk 1 - SATA, 3 partitions (MacOS, MacOS, NTFS) Disk 2 - Intel RAID Disk 3 - USB, 2 partitions (MacOS, MacOS) Disk 4 - USB, 1 partition (NTFS) Disk 1s1 I uses as my main MacOS, with Disk 3s1 as a bootable backup Maybe the new kexts in 10.5.6 are changing the recognition of the disks? Do I need to change/restore some of the 10.5.5 kexts? thanks, Paul I should add that I am using an MBR partition scheme on all my disks Paul One other thing that maybe significant. PC_EFIv8 as installed by OSx86Tools works fine. When I try to install PC_EFIv9 from UInstaller or BootLoader my system will not boot. Just a flashing cursor. Restoring PC_EFIv8 works and the system boots fine. Any ideas on this one? I am installing the PC_EFI into disk 1 and 3. The 2 disks I boot into OSX. DRKRONNIN
First off let me say thanx to Matica and all the other great users for there contributions to this thread. I have one question, where is the boot.plist stored for the chameleon dfe package installer. My issue is that I dual with vista and I want to add my vista drive to the darwin bootloader. I have the dfe package installed on a separate partition called "Macloader" and I don't see a boot.plist inside of that partition. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Le-Bebop
can't have FireWire working like a lot of others. Tried to delete AppleHPET and/or appleintelcpuetc.. but nothing. another problem: one of my partitions is still in 10.5.5. and I have not FireWire too. So with 10.5.5, which kext have I to replace to have it working Please?? Can it be induced by BIOS settings? I thinck no because all of the others periph are working well.. Hi Le Bebob, sound is working on p5w-my front panel is working too(headphone) all you needt is a patched apple hda.kext , I took mine from 10.5.5 it works perfectly, if you can give me an adress I´ll send it to you, but don´t forget to repair user and group rights after install @garry88 : not working with repairing perm, BUT: what is "repair user and group rights"?? just repair permissions or it is more?? Just delete the AppleHPET.kext and everything should be fine. Are your BIOS settings correct? Because sleep works for me.
