pollosyvacas
Installed 10.5.6 with UInstaller/DSDT Patcher/PCEFI. System Profiler shows no sound(but i have sound), shown FireWire available but can not test. USB works fine but unable to shutdown/reboot; have to always do a hard one. bigpoppa206
From PCWiz: # 10.5.6 Released; No DSDT Patch Required 12/19/2008 This news is a few days late, but yes Apple has released Mac OS X 10.5.6 and you can read more about that and what it fixes here. The update as usual with all of Apple’s major updates is 372MB for the delta updater and a hefty 668MB for the combo updater. It is available from Software Update as well. The update, even for real mac users has proven to be troublesome, as there seems to be a bug on many computers (it usually happens if you are using Software Update) that the update does not fully download causing it to hang in the middle of installation. This is why its recommended that you manually download the update and then install it. Now on to the OSx86 side of the story. People have been going crazy because the 10.5.6 beta builds required a DSDT patch for the system to boot properly. a procedure that can be complicated and impossible to achieve in some instances. It was assumed that the 10.5.6 final would have this requirement as well, but no. 10.5.6 boots just fine without any DSDT patch of any sort, just need your usual kexts. Voodoo kernel 9.5.0 also works on 10.5.6 as long as you have the 9.5.0 system.kext installed. You can update to 10.5.6 the same way used to update to any other Leopard update (but don’t use Software Update!). Some users have reported that there are issues mounting DMG files in 10.5.6. This can be fixed by installing the seatbelt.kext from a previous 10.5.5 install. And last but certainly not least, some users have experienced an issue where System Profiler “does not work” (error in retrieving information). This is usually caused by not having an AppleSMBIOS patch, or if you are using an old version of the vanilla AppleSMBIOS.kext. That’s about it, and most people update just fine as long as you do it properly!
Le-Bebop
yes, but if you have not Disabler or run without VoodooKernel, appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext will make problems, isn't it? apparently, the 10.5.6 need to have the appleintelcpupowermanagement. kext running when you begin the install (from Netkas) (I have experienced a Kernel Panic without it). so to have it running without problem, patch the dsdt... HawgGuy
Any FireWire solutions for our P5W? I never used it for the moment, but I'm very interrested now, to connect my MacBook to the Hack.. I need working firewire to upgrade any further because of the number of FW devices I use. All software fixes I've tried thus far have either not worked or broken my system. My next attempt is to try this: Bytecc FW card Ordered and waiting for delivery.
therhymer
My PCI firewire card works fine, its only the onboard FW that has stopped working. I hope that might give someone a clue about a fix for internal FW... I would like a fix too, although i can get by with the card plus a fw800 card i have ordered
jricks92
Hmm.. i'm just wondering how many people are having USB speed problems with our mobo? When i updated to 10.5.6, i lost sleep, and my usb speed went from usb 2.0 speeds (480mbps) to usb 1.1 speeds (12mbps). I didn't try my firewire though. Since then i have reinstalled back to 10.5.5 as it works better with our mobo right now.
pollosyvacas
Something strange here: After update I did have FireWire but actually USB defaulted to slow mode and some of them not working/detected at all. Folowed suggestion on post #682 above and then USB fixed(all ports) but FireWire not working at all(no FireWire port at all on System Profile). Restarted and FireWire working but USB again on slow mode!(Did not change/install anything!) Anyone else with same issue. Thing I will go back to 10.5.5. gary88
Hello guys, I have the same problems like many other here with asus p5w dh deluxe Firewire is working, but usb only in slow mode and I have lost some ports, I tried to find a solution, but it seems to be not so easy this time, I think it is not only a problem of iousbfamily.kext. May be we need a patch for more kexts, when I get same news I will post here later... Regards ! Gary
therhymer
I wonder why some have no firewire, and some have slow usb... does anyone have both, or neither problem? if everyyone were to post which problem they have and which modified-nonvanilla kexts they are using that would be useful I imagine... I am running completely vanilla system with hacked kexts on EFI partion (munky system) my PCI card fw works but onboard does not. I have not noticed any usb problems. my modified kexts are: LegacyHDAController.kext HDAEnabler.kext LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext SMBIOSResolver.kext IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext dsmos.kext to tell the truth i haven't even checked if my audio is working with above kexts. i use audio over fw anyway and could remove the audio kexts happily enough. anyone with working fw please post which kexts you are using that are not vanilla. Erño
Sleep stopped working after 10.5.6 update. The screen goes black, the HDs shut down, but the power supply of the PC keeps running and the machine won't wake up. Otherwise everything is working as it should. Edit: Problems with second boot (cause windows Vista blew up, my brother had to use Mac) the rear panel USB ports won't work. Or at least the USB mouse and keyboard's USB receiver didn't. The mouse at least worked before that. I'm sure that the USB kext can be found somewhere, so this isn't a major problem. Only the sleep issue is. Hope there will be a fix for it soon. tuxy
I just finished to install Leopard on my ASUS P5W DH Deluxe. I strictly follow macita's tips , and everithing seems to work fine. I have two open issues the first one is related to USB functions. After updating to 10.5.6 , I got lost two out of four rear usb ports. Now It's also seems to me usb is going very very slow in transfert ratio. The second issue is up my GC , 7600GS 512 , I can get my QE set to enabled , Did someone solved this two questions? Thanks again to everybody for your tips and clues!!! Merry Christmas...............

Paul Gleeson
Hi, I have a very stable 10.5.5 system using PC_EFI v8 as the boot loader. I have been trying to update to v9, but after using the bootloader, or UInstall I just get a blank screen and a flashing cursor, and not boot! I have tried this on my backup copy of my 10.5.5 system on a USB drive. Same result Any ideas? Paul PS: I have 3 disks in my system, 2 running a hardware raid via the Intel Matrix ROM for my windows disks, and one as my Mac OSX disk. When I boot to Mac OSX, I get an insertion error, that's all. Everything else is just fine. Don't know if this is significatn.

I am actually very curios as you said after update to 10.5.6 you had some issues with USB ports not being detected. Do you actually have full USB 2.0 speed? How about FireWire; does your FW port get recognized? Something strange happens to my system after update: after every reboot I either have FW and USB on slow mode(12MB/s only) or I would have full USB speed and no FW at all. My Specs are below and I installed 10.5.1 Kalyway with vanilla kernel+ EFI chamaleon+GUID updated to 10.5.6(USB/FW issues) On a separate drive I still have iAtkos 10.5.5+EFI Chamaleon+GUID (running ok)
