My first X86install was to a machine with integrated intel 815 (or 845... whatever) graphics, and I had the same problem, but I had an old Nvidia Rivav TNT2 card lying around, and as soon as I popped that in, everyhting was fine.

Basically, I'm guessing that your integrated gfx only shares up to 8megs, and OSX doesn't like that. If you've got something (just about anything 16 meg or better, in fact) from ATI or Nvidia lying around, throw it in and you'll get VESA 2 modes @60hz or VESA 3 modes at whatever the card can handle.

So far, I haven;t figured out how to get an integrated 800 series intel chipset with 8mb to play nice.

I just installed OS X on a spare HDD, and it works.

The only thing is, the screen is has no color (black & white.) I know it has an intergrated graphics card from Intel.

Has anyone had a similar problem and/or know a solution.

I have Intel integrated graphics on my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1100, and had the same problem. What fixed it for me was going into BIOS and changing UMA memory to 8MB rather than 1MB. (I found this tip on the 10.4.1 HCL, but it works in 10.4.3 as well.) If you don't have that option in BIOS or are unable to change it, try updating to the latest revision.

In MacOSX, a black and white screen usually means you need to set the colors to "Thousands" in the Displays contol panel. Give it a try.

I've tried that on my Dell Inspiron 1150 (same as a 1100) and it only lists 4 colors. I've looked in my BIOS and there is no setting for changing the allocated memory. I'm trying to run OS X 10.4.1 (which ran perfectly under VMWare Player). I read somewhere that there was a .kext fix for this... Does anyone know anything?

Help greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance...
