mifki
Definately agree with him, wheras we had robotskip who loved MS, most users here are just as bad considering they follow Apple blindly. CLiDE FTW!!1
what gets me are people who think Macs are for idiots, and are nothing more than "toy" computers. half my friends started looking at me with contempt when i said i was ditching Windows for OS X fulltime. the other half have always looked at me with contempt good article btw Well, I wouldn't judge someone's intelligence on an operating system alone. I judge their intelligence on how often they call me to fix their computer. Mac-fanboys are the real idiots, though. Being passionate about something is one thing, but constantly trying to drive the fact home that they love Apple, and every peice of technology (or poop, if you look at the puck mouse) that it's ever produced as if it was God-sent is, well, pretty pathetic. Apple is a company. Not a world organization that better serves society. Mac fanboys take it personally everytime someone so happens to even sneeze at the word Apple. Why? Because they make a decent OS? Because the commercials are cute? Because they want to be "different?". What ever the reason is, it's pretty lame, and at the end of the day, I get laid more than the average mac fanboy. The fanboys choose to rebel against something that doesn't even acknowledge its existence. It's not like MS or the Linux community goes out of it's way to take stabs at Apple. Mac Fanboys create a "war", if you will, against nothing. It seems as if everytime I make the comment, "why doesn't the zoom button maximize the screen?", some smart-assed fanboy replies with, "OH YEAH, WELL WINDOWS HAS VIRUSES" (*COUGH* MyMac8MyPC *COUGH*) Also, I'm happy Apple made the switch to Intel, it basically shut the f-king PPC zealots up. God, what a waste of space they were. I know theres lots of fanboys out there for both Windows and Linux, too. But at the end of the day, Mac fanboys are by far the most insecure, whiniest bunch of sucks I've ever come across. RedSox
Well, I use both, I work for Apple as well - I have built PC's and overcloceked, and built a PC OSX machine for fun. So, that said, here is how I see it. When it comes to video/audio, everything streams and works well together, you know whereas MS has to deal with 3rd party - now, take away the anti trust laws and MS could buy a computer company and make their own machines which would probably be a good idea. As a former PC builder, Vista just didn't do it for me - they finally did get the search done (they invented it, apple implemented it faster), neither invented the Expose/Dashboard/Widgets, but in terms of templates, video, audio, I think MAC wins hands down. A weird example is this, for the pro sumer, the DIGI PRO TOOLS LE system DUC user base used to be MUCH MORE PC users, but since switching to INTEL, now the MAC users out number the PC users and with the likes of GIGASTUDIO being PC only having so much more competition from other sample devices and orchestral instruments (virtual) both PC and MAC, as well as APPLE having a huge turn around with new products, they are simply on fire. They release new products, update their CPU's almost every quarter or more....something OLD TIME MAC users are not used to. The thing about a MAC though, especially Mac Pro or Mac Book Pro is that they hold their vaule, for example, the old 2.166 MBP, non LED, slower and 40% slower in some apps than the same, (SAME, operative word, price) as the 2.2 LED MBP, they still sell used on Ebay or Craigs for $1600-$1700+ dollars - so they do hold their price. Now, with the new iMacs and high speeds, FW 800 (still wished they had a better GPU and express slot), the $1199 price tag is a lot of computer that could in theory last for years and years. Lastly, have you ever noticed that those that tinkle and prode their PC's overclock, tinker, et-cetera, always seem to have the most problems? The beauty of the MAC is this. Since they are a smaller market than say the PC, the templates and such are rarely seen by 85% of the population, so Windows users are always wowed. I know one guy, he bought a PC, then a Mac (Dual G5), he started shooting weddings - next thing you know, he edits for a firm in his home town (he moved from Los Angeles (high priced) to home (Kansas) cost of living less, and is a BIG fish in a small pond - - and makes a living having FUN, editing, adding music, et-cetera - - I think sometimes, the mac can lead to more creativity as it doesn't get in the way as much as windows and always gives you creative templates to get the juices going be it Final Cut Pro, to Motion, to Pages and iWeb templates. Apple is going in a great direction - they are releasing products at a record pace, the new OS will give most users a rather large speed boost whereas its been proven that VISTA is faster than XP (audio example) at 32 bits whereas 64 does not show dramatic improvement - the Mac on the other hand (if you watched the KeyNote), one app took 81 seconds to complete (32 bit) vs 21 seconds (64 bit), that is a huge difference, and keeping in mind, Final Cut is IS being used for TV, Logic is priced (audio) at a price that is a no BRAINER, its offers surround, high end console control, TDM (Pro Tools) support, and iWork, imports, exports to basically everything MS Office. With all the revenue that Apple is making, I think that helps us - haven't you noticed the HUGE dramatic price drops in PC's now? You can get a laptop for $499 and not be a slouch - now, will Apple ever release such a product? I think so, once the QUAD cores make it to the MBP, I think then we will see HIGHER end GPU's in Mac Books and lower priced. Steve seems to have a plan and if you look close - they seem to have a new release almost every quarter. Also, FWIW, I have $$$$ in PC sample software - but normally use the MAC - - am moving more and more toward the mac. Peace. Headrush69
I know theres lots of fanboys out there for both Windows and Linux, too. But at the end of the day, Mac fanboys are by far the most insecure, whiniest bunch of sucks I've ever come across. I agree with most of what you said but I like to think there are two types of Mac fanboys; the one you mentioned that follows everything Steve says, and the more knowledgeable one that loves his choice in machine/OS just as much, but can "advertise" why he likes Apple/OSX better without sounding like it is a religion. I can understand how some can be insecure after so many years of being given second class status from so many sources. It's still pretty common to gets answers like "Oh no a Mac can't do that" in many computers stores when its obviously not true or how many IT departments/support departments refuse to acknowledge any Macs even when it is something that requires no different configuration on their part, lots. What I think is the worst thing about Macs: insufficient video card options. I don't care if some people think the iMac is overpowered already for the average user, looking at the latest benchmarks for UT 2007 demo, the Radeon HD 2600 Pro isn't gonna cut it. A Nonny Moose
I agree with Headrush. The ATi 9600 proved that hybrid video cards can exist, and I wish more would follow this example. We could then have greater choice and the video card makers can have increased sales. Headrush69
I never understood the push to get the iMac to 2" depth. If it was a laptop or a desktop machine I can see the benefit, but for an All-in-One unit that stands like that I highly doubt most people care whether it is 2" or 4" deep. The extra 2" difference could easily have lent the iMac to many upgrades like additional HDs, better video options, etc. In the long run this would be better for Apple. Because they include the monitor, most people aren't going to upgrade as soon in the future, so at least with upgraded components they would still get more sales from the batch of consumers. apowerr
on't care if some people think the iMac is overpowered already for the average user, looking at the latest benchmarks for UT 2007 demo, the Radeon HD 2600 Pro isn't gonna cut it. The Macbook, Macmini and iMac currently have awful video card choices. Hopefully the Macbook and Mini can get the 8400m GS. e new OS will give most users a rather large speed boost whereas its been proven that VISTA is faster than XP (audio example) at 32 bits Vista? Faster than XP? Not at all. I don't know what you meant by 'audio example' but afaik Vista32 is not faster than XP32. whereas 64 does not show dramatic improvement - Actually, with x64 Vista vs x86Vista/XP you do see a speed increase (especially at boot up) the Mac on the other hand (if you watched the KeyNote), one app took 81 seconds to complete (32 bit) vs 21 seconds (64 bit), That was comparing a 32 bit App vs a 64 but App. If you compared an app's x86 version and x64 version in Windows you will notice a significant speed difference as well. I'm sorry Redsox but all of your recent posts have been ridiculous. I doubt you work at an Apple Store, and if you do Apple is in serious trouble. As far as the article: The author is right. Some Apple Fanboys are crazy zealots. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66722-the-worst-thing-about-macs/#findComment-475230 Share on other sites

pilsator
One bad thing about one of my macs: it didn't work. It's an early G5 iMac and it always runs too hot. I could burn DVDs in winter without errors when I opened the door or right after starting the mac. I don't know whether the recent core2duo consumer macs still have cooling problems - my hackintosh doesn't. The new iMacs look good but do they work (under pressure)? The price would be ok for a machine that you can use and not just adore.
