did you burnt it through Disk Utility? and it doesnt have to be a .DMG file. you could burn it as .sparseimage.

I did, both as a .dmg and a .sparseimage

the powerbook refuses to recognize it as a startup disc, the macbook refuses to boot past the gray apple logo.

My ripped original is good because it successfully produced a patched hackintosh install. I guess I should just get some dual-layer DVD's.

ok so, i have done all the steps, ive copied osx 10.5 to dump.sparse, and then i deleted all necessary files, and then i made burn.sparse, but when i try to "restore" dump to burn, my dump file still says its 7.1 gbs, and i know its not, but i get a error saying it cannot restore to burn becuase selected drive is full. so just for kicks and gigles, i made burn.sparse, a 8 gb dl img. and then hit restore and it worked.. but obvously if i can do that id just burn to a dl dvd lol. which isnt the case. i need to burn to a sl dvd, any help please?

Guys, I actually registered only to ask this.. long time lurker, this forum helped me out so much times.

The thing is this. Downloaded Leopard Retail version, opened in Disc Utility, followed guide, burned. I insert disc with C to boot from disc, and enter the wait, as I was told, for around an hour.

3 hours passed and I just gave up in despair. The loading screen just stayed with that dreaded animation. I clicked the shut down button, opened the iMac again, and tried burning in a different way - like in page 3, with Carbon. All went smooth until I again booted from the disc.

2 hours went and still loading, I just went to sleep. After 8 hours it's still the same, I just said "screw it" and aborted it again. Not a nice thing to wake up to..

Now I'm trying to download a different DMG that was proven to work, and this will do my 3rd DVD I'm wasting here. Can't say I'm happy at all with the situation. Anyone knows what the hell's going on?

Normally I won't bug you and go to MSJ.. but lately it's experiencing all kinds of failing to load, this time it just stays a white screen.

Hello,

I've burned 4 slightly different versions of OS X 10.5 on a SL disc using different methods posted on the web. Last one I tried was this one found here at the top of this thread.

Same problem: grey loading screen never ends... I have to manually shut the computer down.

Any new solutions to that problem?

Thanks,

Loa

  • 4 weeks later...

In squeezing my Leopard 10.5 dmg for burning via Disk Utility onto my SL-DVD, I first deleted all languages but Asian languages support, all printers and X-code tools, and burned the burn.sparseimage. I made it a 'read only' file and even tried clicking the gold lock to lock it prior to burning it. When I use it to boot up and hold the "C" button down, after 15 minutes the Leopard 10.5 OS X installer shows. It allows me to select my hard disk to install, even allows me "options" for archiving, saving network settings, etc...I choose "upgrade"...But after it verifies my created install DVD, a yellow exclamation point appears and says it can't locate the needed files to actually install Leopard. Yes, I already have Tiger 10.4 with its latest updates on my black Macbook Intel Core Duo 2ghz laptop. What have I done wrong??? I even even tried clicking on my main full Leopard 105 dmg file to start an upgrade to Leopard, but, to no avail. Please advise...

hi to all....

Ok after five messed up DVD's i finally made it!

I removed the Xcode tools; and only these languages : Japanese, Italian, french, Dutch, german, korean and brazilian portuguese.

i Only removed these items and burned the damn thing and it installed fine on my Macbook after 5 DVD´s where there was always the same error message about missing files. i believe that if you only remove these files you will be ok.
