2600xt 10.5.2 9.2 not working ?

just got my MSI 2600xt fanless 512MB,

10.5.2 update, 9.2 vanilla update , graphics update, 7300gs working fine,...

swapped out the cards,... boots, but at login screen, it gets garbled ?

checked the dev id, same is for pro's, so should not need to edit ?!

did have a couple nvidia kext updated, did a permissions repair.

what should I do next ?

My Build

  • Asus P5W DH Deluxe Mainboard
  • Intel Core2Quad Q6600 2.4Mhz
  • Sapphire ATI Radion HD2600XT 512MB PCIx16
  • 4Gb DDR2 800Mhz Dual Channel (Running 667Mhz)
  • 2 SATA Hard Drives
    • 320Gb Seagate (ST3320620AS) OS X
    • 320Gb Seagate (ST3320620AS) Temp Time Machine Drive

    [*]Samsung DVD-RW (SH-S203B)

Things that just plain worked.

  • Asus P5W DH Deluxe Mainboard

    [*]Dual GigE Ethernet (Yukon)

[*]Audio out (I haven't tested audio in)

    • SPDIF is lit, but not tested.

    • Coax Audio not tested

Things that need a Kext fix to work

Things that don't work (yet):

  • RealTek Onboard WiFi
    • Shows up, but no signal.

[*]Sleep, just doesn't work. I haven't made that much of an effort to work this out yet. I just turned off the sleep timer.

HOW-TO

OS X, my install:

  1. Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD, created from iso of same name.

    1. Find it on "the bay", 'nuf said.
    2. I used GUID
    3. Follow instructions from, http://tinyurl.com/2oznsk, for the setup. Leave all Video options UNCHECKED.
    4. On reboot after installation, hit key to go to options and start in safemode. –x

[*]Get Natit.kext from http://tinyurl.com/2fdbbj

  1. Get it on the Mac, USB thumb drive is great, or download it directly if you are already connected to the internet.
  2. Either install it manually, and edit the permissions in a shell (Look for these instruction, basically UNIX permission settings)
  3. OR EASIER, use "Kext Helper b7" in your applications to install it and set permissions.
  4. Reboot (without the –x), your HD2600XT should come up with your max resolution for your monitor (in my case 1920x1200 @ 60Hz, 32-bit color). w00h00!!!

[*]Restore factory desktop setting, if you want.

  1. Laik's Viginizer for Kalyway 10.5.1

[*]Kalyway Intel Combo Update 10.5.2 install

    1. Search kalyway on "the bay"
    2. Unpack and click on the .dmg file. Let it do the work. It will reboot and take a little time. Don't worry.

      [*]Kalyway 10.5.2 Kenrnel (using vanilla)

      1. Search kernel on "the bay"

        [*]Lepoard Graphics Update

        1. From Apple: http://tinyurl.com/2sbvkv
        2. Yes, this did improve my Geekbench scores by a little.

    3. Unpack and click on the .dmg file. Let it do the work. Worked awesome for me.

FYI, the first time I did this my Ethernet stopped working, but I was using the wrong kext for my video card, so that may have been the problem.

how to force rebuild kext at boot ?

..

thanks rovershack, will give it a try,

thought I want to try first, with native graphics update kexts first ?

now I can install the kext in single user mode !?

but if that don't work yet , how do I install the graphics update, from a shell ?

Hey Schultz,

I don't know how to force the kext rebuild at boot yet. Just getting back into the Mac scene. The Native Graphics Update is a .dmg package direct from Apple. It worked great for me, but YMMV. I had went through three builds, and did it on my totally clean build, so I wasn't too worried if it didn't work out. It seems that most people have not had problems with it.

Good Luck.

that's with iatkos, no ppf2, 10.5.2 kalyway update. 9.2 vanilla, graphics update, and netkas.kext for ATI,

and my PSU, powersupply, would not boot anymore,... coolmax 500x,

dug out my old 430 antec, where the fan failed, put in new fan,... going fanless soon,...

right now the only fan, is the psu, and one disk, rackmount , ...booth sides open on the case,...yy-0221

think it's 6 years old, and survived 3 generation upgrades, (total replacement),

scary ,.... lost 750GB disk,... thought,... with the whole change over,...

what I found, I forgot to switch bios to ahci mode, and that one was missing,...

do we still need AHCI mode with 10.5.2 ? anything to change configure on the disk ?

that one is a WD 750gb green,

games, have not loaded WOW, my son plays it,... how do you check fps on mac,...

supertux , came up, only in a small window ? how to change scrren size ?

fullscreen button, did not do anything,...

windoze,

Witcher runs, looks good,

UT3 runs, locks up on game change,...

photo edit, colors look good, does'nt look I need to recalibrate,

pictures look crisp, don't know, if I can say, it's a tiny bit crisper than the 7300gs ,

on 1600x1200 lcd, DVI port,

DVI port, have it plugged in on the bottom one, is there a difference ?

heat, the fanless fits, with OC, the cpu fan comes on/off a lot,

without OC, seam to run without cpu fan for most parts, kicks in on games,

what give the graphics card some cooling,... stock fan,...

Does anyone know how to get this for 10.5.2?

I went to the irc server, downloaded the triakis installer, installed it, added my dev id (9589) to info.plist, then I put on the 2600pro fix (for 10.5.2) through kext helper, repaired permissions, restarted, then it said that the ati2000 (or whatever) .kext could not be used.

I used natit.kext for ati from tinyurl,...

don't have a bookmark, but it was not triakis,....

did not edit plist,... 2600xt,...

might want to try that,

... or consider, swapping your pro for an xt, and be done with it .

just went ahead with the graphics update on 10.5.2 and everything is great :) sporting the MSI rx2600xt 512mb passive cooled gpu.

I'm about to build my new htpc and i'm really interested in this board!

I'd like to know if you can get DVI and dual screen working, with the newer kext. Is it possible?

At the moment i have a X1950XT but i'd like to switch to a 2600xt because it has a better support for HD media, and i've ordered a blu-ray drive (using a dlp HD projector as display).

Thank you!

It works fine on Toshiba Satellite A200-17O with Radeon HD2600...and an external Monitor!

Can I activate the Internal Display?

I run iAtkos 10.5.1...

post-189963-1203952001_thumb.jpg

Can you show me the versions of your Natit.kext, ATIRadeonX2000.kext, ATINDRV.kext and OpenGL.Frameworks ?

Did you activate HD2600 by ATY.Franklin or ATY.Triakis method ?

My Asus F8Sa use ATI Mobility HD2600 (512 Mb). After applying Natit.kext and ATY.Triakis I can only use DVI-D external monitor to display and changing resolution. However, there's no CI/QE function supported by hardware.

So I need your help eagerly.

I did the method from this thread! :(

Here are the Infos:

ATINDRV.kext 1.5.18.7

ATIRadeonX2000.kext 1.5.18.7

Natit.kext no version info available (last change Dec. 1st 2007 6:55 pm)

OpenGL.Frameworks does not exist! ;):D

I've only downloaded the package from IRC, installed it and changed the info.plist

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Please check your /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/PlugIns/

Is there any ATY.Triakis.kext, ATY.Franklin.kext , or something else there.

Also please show me the version of this OpenGL.framework if you find it.

for silwin,.... to get going, at boot, F8 -v -x

should get you basic 1024x768 going,...

after that you can load kext manual,

anybody knows, where to look for , errors ? logs ?

is there some way to enable debug mode ?

and test , new libraries ? framebuffer, opengl, testrun games, fps, etc,... ?

WHY WONT THIS WORK FOR ME?!?!

sudo -s

chmod -R 755 /Volumes/osxdisk/System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX200.kext

chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/osxdisk/System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX200.kext

kextload -t /Volumes/osxdisk/System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX200.kext

kextcache -k /system/library/extensions

Also, next time you reboot, be sure to boot with a "-f" from your darwin bootloader to ignore previously cached kexts and rebuild your kext caches.

This worked for me
