xxxx Posted September 17, 2007 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Hi! A newbie here I installed JaS 10.4.8 MacOSX86 in my Samsung R50 (R51 in some countries). Specs: Centrino 1.73 GHz, 1 GB RAM Intel 915GM, 128 MB shared LAN: Broadcom 440x Wifi: Intel 2200BG External monitor attached, to avoid further problems System installed with JaS' "GMA900" option Installing in external USB drive My problem is that when MacOSX boots, I get the grey screen with the Apple logo for some moments, and then another grey screen with the mouse arrow there. I can move it, but I can't do anything. If I press ESC, the VoiceOver guy starts talking, so the computer is not frozen. I tried safe mode (booting with -v -f -x) but it hangs as well. It looks like there is a problem with the graphics card, because sometimes several blue squares appear while booting, and if I enable the VGA output, the image is all messed up, with lines and all kind of garbage. bluedragon1971 Posted September 17, 2007 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Try this. Boot in single user mode (-s -v). After you get to the prompt, go to /System/Library/Extensions and delete all of the AppleIntelGMA* kexts and the AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer kext then reboot. That should allow you to at least log in and see what you are doing, although the resolution will be stuck at 1024x768 and you won't have CI or QE. Then reinstall the GMA900 support package from the JaS DVD (its in /System/Installation/Packages on the DVD). Hope that helps. I updated 10.4.9 to 10.4.10, but when I restart computer, I only get blue screen. I have 950 GMA, I know that is driver won't work, but how can I fix it? I tried to enter in safe mode, but screen is also blue. But there are two problems: there aren't any files called AppleIntelGMA*, but there are some called AppleIntel915*, so I tried to delete them. But I couldn't since the system was read-only! By the way, I spotted something strange loading Darwin: it says that the graphics card has only 7 MB. I guess it's normal, because it's a dynamic thing, but just in case I say it. The disk was read-only because I didn't read the instructions given at the boot (you have to fsck the partition and then mount it). I deleted the AppleIntelGMA* files and AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer. I rebooted and everything worked great, although at 1024x768 and no acceleration. I thought I should make the Ethernet card work, so I got another kext from a thread in this forum, and copied in its place. Following the instructions, I was going to delete the kext cache, but instead of typing rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions and pressing TAB KEY, I pressed ENTER. I realized inmediatly what I had done and stopped it with Ctrl+C, but half of the kexts were gone. So I guess I'm reinstalling now By the way, the CPU fan is blowing like crazy when using MacOSX. Too temperature I guess. In Windows I use Notebook Hardware Control (NHC) to block the CPU to low speeds, but can I do that in MacOSX86? xxxx Posted September 17, 2007 Author Share Posted September 17, 2007 Okay, I got everything working fine. The LAN is working and graphics are OK at 1280x800. The problem is that everything is so sloooow... minimizing a window takes about 2-3 seconds. The system profiler says that my card is compatible with CI and QE, but I don't know if that means that it's using it. I tried this, but I get a blue screen on boot. I used method 2 because I couldn't find the file in method 1. Any ideas? Azurael Posted September 18, 2007 Share Posted September 18, 2007 Your FSB speed is not being picked up properly. Either install a newer kernel release or set fsb=133 as a kernel parameter (try just typing it at the bootloader prompt as you would -s for safe mode) and if that works, add it into your com.apple.boot.plist file as detailed elsewhere on the forum.
