First off, hey, I'm new to the forums, but not so much to OSX86.

Anyway, on to my question. I've got it on a DVD, booted from it, and it took a while, but eventually the installer loaded up, it didn't give me any options as to where I could install the operating system so i just went to the disk utility and as I tried to partition I let it load for a LONG time, near an hour and it timed out. I also tried to erase and got the same timing out error. Anyone know how to get around this? I'd love OS 10.4.10 on my beautiful AMD 64 X2 4200+ machine but i don't know why i'm getting this error?

Try Using ATA (IDE) HardDisk. After installation your SATA HDD will be detected.

Also try not to partition using Disk Utility. Do the partition through a 3rd party application or through

Windows: MyComputer > Right-Click > Manage ---> Disk Management.

Create a Primary Partition more than 8GB .. ( you don't need to format it )

In the OSX Installer : Disk Utility : Erase (the partition) with "UNIX" first and then with "Mac Ext Journal"

Then, everything else should be a fine.

During Installation, choose the following options:

1) "... NV40..." This will make your Graphics Work. I don't actually remember the name but it says something like that.

2) Deselect the "Language Option" if you want Just English.

Good Luck!!!!

I've got a PATA hard disk at home i could install should I do that?

The download Info says to use PATA instead of SATA for my motherboard. nForce 410/430

Yes, that's definitely the way to go at the beginning, since it easier to get OSX installed on PATA drives. You can always try fixing your SATA support down the road.

Cheers,

search the forum, you will see a lot of threads regarding nforce chipset SATA problem. Here we do have some SATA driver good for nforce 4 or lower but not for nforce 410/430 (PITB). But PATA is the way to go, man! good luck!

I appreciate it you guys. I'll put this hard drive in here in a few minutes, i'm getting the instructions from dell right now and printing them so i don't f**k it up. i'll let you know if i'm having any problems or anything.

I guess Dell customizes their motherboards or so I was told by tech support. I cannot hook up my PATA hard drive. So what do I have to do to get my SATA to work? I would really love to have osx on my PC.

edit: should i use another download of osx for amd?
