I going on with tests.... under Chameleon with PCEFI 10.1, dsmos and patched dsdt......

 

 

Booting with 32bit kernel and AppleHPET.kext then firewire is up and running.....

Booting with 64bit kernel and AppleHPET.kext then firewire is not running....

Booting with 64bit kernel and without AppleHPET.kext i can see that firewire is being loading but i get a KP before booting to desktop.....(AppleIntelCpuPowerManagement complaints that CPU is not registered in HPET.....)

 

 

And sth else...

With 64bit kernel restart doesnt work (with OpenHaltRestart.kext)

With 32bit kernel restart works like a charm!

Strange the differences between booting 32 & 64 bit affecting device detection. An avenue you could try is device id fixing in dsdt - theres a thread about this somewhere in the forum. I used it for Sata to fool it into thinking its on IC10 instead of ICH9 chipset and it works.

 

OpenHaltRestart works for me so everything working now (except Firewire - which I don't use yet)

Did you

Get the UUID of the partition your going to install Snow Leopard on (right click/information on partition in disk utility) copy it and paste it into PlatfomUUID.kext you have placed in SLBooter/Extra/Extensions
?

 

I've done the install at least ten times it could just be you missed something or have misinterpreted my notes. Nobody else has fed-back this problem (mind you not many have provided positive feed back considering 86 downloads so far!)

 

If your sure you did everything right try again with -v (i.e. when you see the partition icons type -v then click on SLinstall) tell us what the last couple of lines say.

I've tried the 'Revised_Improved_SL install' guide as well (I have p5K pro mobo) with it I get a KP with "Mac OS Version Not Yet Set" with uptime in nanoseconds. I've tried modyfing the DSDT.aml (DSDT Patcher) editing smbios.plist to match UUID of my 10.5.8 Leopard install and still KP on SL. I'm using a separate HD to setup and install to with Main HD still loading LEO 10.5.8.

dsdt patching is very complex and there's plenty to read around the forum/s - there is a dsdt attached in the file set but see the note first - your video will very likely be different to mine. If you post your video card details someone may be able to patch the dsdt for you.

 

As for com.apple.Boot.plist i dont have anything in mine other than as is standard. It is possible to inject drivers for video with efi strings in Boot.plist (and other devices), again if you post your system details then maybe someone already has relevant patches to help.

an ide hard disk and an ide dvdrecorder ,

Hey DB1 I've been following your post from other forums since your mobo is close to mine; here is my system details maybe you can help me with the Kernel Panics I'm getting:

 

P5K Pro Mobo

The UUID you need is for the drive your going to install on i.e

the UUID should also be set in PlatformUUID.kext. Open disk utility, right click then choose information and a dialogue window opens showing the UUID. Copy & paste it to smbios.plist & PlatformUUID.kext (the later being more important).

It is possible that i did the wrong UUID

 

is it asking for the USB drive partition (SLinstall) or the partition on the HDD (SLosx)

The PlatformUUID.kext on SLBooter needs the UUID of the hdd partition your going to install on (Slosx). This identifies to SLInstall the correct partition (by UUID) on which to start the install on.

But i will buying an ASUS P5K-VM board because i need a retail 10.6 sl installation. Can

you tell me everything is working in 64bit mode except the firewire?

 

Works sleep, restart, shutdown with this board?

Everything working except firewire. You need OpenHaltRestart.kext which I did not originally include in the install set. Can post later if anyone needs it (I'm not at my desktop currently).

The only way to get the patched JMicron.kext (old 32bit from 10.5) for onboard ATA working is to boot on 32 bit mode with "-x32" switch.

Also this would allow to load kexts like NVEnabler (to get dual screen/mirror/TV out/ working on NVidia cards), and some other legacy kexts.

Im currently running in 32 bit mode cos I need the onboard ATA. Runs fine

Have you tried the ATA kext @ Netkas.org ?

Cool link, thanks! they have a 64 bit JMicron.kext there! I will try it tomorrow

Im sure netkas kexts works well with the ICH9 SATA in IDE mode, but I havent tested them as Im using ICH9 AHCI mode.

 

Krazabu, from the NVEnabler dev team has stated that theres no 64 bit compatible version:

They didnt release the source code, so I dont know. I will try it anyway

Take on Post #494 RevisedP5KVMSLInstall.zip and on Post #446 P5K_VM_CustomDSDT.zip

 

Extract iaslMe (from P5K_VM_CustomDSDT.zip) and dsdt.aml (from RevisedP5KVMSLInstall.zip) and put files on your desktop.

 

drag the dsdt.aml on the iaslMe app. It decompil the file and the result is dsdt.dsl.

 

Modify the dsdt.dsl for your video card (read PSKVM_DSDT.pdf from P5K_VM_CustomDSDT.zip)

 

After, drag your modified dsdt.dsl on iaslMe app to compile in a dsdt.aml file

I am having problems finishing the snow leopard installation. I followed this guide and the prasys guide. At the end of the snow leopard installation, I get an error "Installation failed" with "GENERIC_ERROR_MESSAGE". Rebooting give me immediately kernel panics with "10 Platform expert".

 

My strategy:

 

- Copy the leopard dvd on a new local partition disk as I don't have any usb key with more than 2gb(used carbon copy to copy the contents of the dmg to the partition, erase).

 

- Make all the customization on the leopard "hard disk" (osinstall.mpkg, boot, kexts, platformuuid, patch DSDT using iasl, etc.)

 

- Overwrite/Upgrade the running OS(10.5.6) when launching the modified launcher osinstall.mpkg(from netkas).

 

Is there something really wrong with my method? At the end of the installation if it fails, of course my running system doesn't work no more.

 

Should I only attempt to install snow on a blank partition?

grr ok now I get a panic during the install process

when time remaining says About 30 minutes
