comomolo
First of all: why is there a limitation in the search for short words? How would I search for 'amd' chipsets in these forums ('amd' is not accepted for being too short)? I've read everywhere that my current NVIDIA 430 chipset is not well suited for building a Hackintosh. I prefer AMD chips for a number of reasons, but I have tried different OSX patched DVDs (JAS, Uphuck, Tub, Myz...) and all of them freeze my PC even before getting to the install screen. (Since I can't search for '430' either, it's hard for me to find solutions to this issue... ) Any advice on the best chipset for AMD processors to run OSX will be very welcome. rerven
I use uphuck 1.3 universal, It's very good. You can just select amd sse3. That'll be okay anyway. Let's wait for uphuck 1.4A. Oh yes, there IS a thread just about amd systems, hope you can find it. I'll look around for it too. The three letter limitation is silly, I agree! spone
Provided you don't need SATA, I would recommend the NForce4 AMD chipset, works flawlessly out of the (repackaged) box :censored2: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58321-best-chipset-for-amd/#findComment-417353 Share on other sites

audio01
Hi again, USB 2.0 works fine with Via chipsets? Please, what OS X86 version/release are you using? Which motherboard? Are you using some third party (generic) EHCI driver? Have you applied any patch/fix? Are you using external USB 2.0 hard disks / pendrive / iPod without problems? Do they mount correctly? Thank you! audio01
Hi, Thank you for your reply! Well, so it seems that the problem is Asus/Via related? I'm seen more and more USB 2.0 problems, and many of them are using Asus motherboards. Cheers! comomolo
Sorry, I'm a pretty dumb newbee and forgot to enable notification of replies. I thought nobody replied!! (Duh!) I just came back from holidays and I see the thread has grown a little. I thank everybody for all the insight. However, my main issue is still there: I've got OSX installed in a number of different systems. I don't mean it ran perfectly but at least I could install it. My problem with my current motherboard and configuration is that it won't even get to the installation procedure and freeze my computer. Here's the list of my components: (Everest report, sorry some items are in Spanish but I can't change that. Also, the CPU is really a 3600+ just a bit overclocked.) naquaada
The best AMD chipsets are nForce 3 and 4 I think. I have nForce 3 (AGP, Socket 754), nForce 4 and nForce 4 SLI (PCI-E, Socket 939). I have for Asus boards (look in my signature) and all components are working without problems, even the SiliconImage 3114 and both LAN ports. Interesting is that on my Asus A8N-FM/S (nForce 4 Chipset, PCI-E, no SLI, not listed) has another audio chip (Realtek ALC650) and another network (RTL 8201), all other boards have Realtek ALC850 and Marvell 88E0015 LAN. But I can copy a whole image created onto another machine to this board and it works without any changes. The A8N-FM/S is an 100%-OSx86-compatible microATX-board for Socket 939, I think there are not much available. And it even has 4x SATA-2, 6x USB and 2x Firewire onboard! For Socket 939 I can really recommend the Asus A8N-SLI Premium, its definitively a great board. Well equipped (up to 10 HD's + 2x DVD possible) and it's really 100% compatible. For AGP/Socket 754 the Asus K8N-E Deluxe is a good board, it has the same onboard chips than the Premium and is also 100% compatible. GreetinX from the Other Side! comomolo
Mine is a nforce 430. It's supposed to behave in a similar fashion to the nforce 4, but I can't even get to the installation screen. My system freezes before that. I have a SATA DVD drive. Any suggestions?
