Hi all,

I have a problem! Read many posts and neither have solved my problem.

I had XP installed and a partition of 20 GB prepared to install mac (primary and active). I formatted it to mac in the install procedure as a journaled mac and install the mac osx without errors.

The problem is that it doesn't boot. I put the install dvd again and try to select the partition as boot disc but nothing appears (apart from the install dvd).

I tried with different boot loaders such as acronis os selector but without success. The last method I tried was to add the line

C:\chain0="Mac OS X86"

to boot.ini. In theory, If you copy it over to the root of your Windows system partition

(usually C:), it can be used to boot Mac OS X through Windows XP's boot

selector.

Chain0 will locate the HFS+ partition and will proceed to boot from it.

This method also failed. I choose the mac os in the windows xp os selector and the screen just flashes on and off then goes back to the boot screen.

I think that there is a problem in the mac boot on the partition but I don't know what to do.

I really don't prefer the chain0 method, if you think OS X selector is better, no problem, I will change to this.

These are some screen shots:

In the dvd install terminal, I tried to see in the fdisk what's wrong:

This is how partition looks like in XP:

When I forced the mac partition to boot by making inactive the xp partition, and I put -v to see what happens, the loader ends at BSD root: disk0s3, major 14, minor 13

Any help will be very welcome!

OK Synaesthesia,

But I think that the question is that the boot in the partition is not working since it stops at "BSD root: disk0s3, major 14, minor 13" when I force to boot.

Any ideas?

I also prefer the Mac OS X selector. Works fine and the options can be changed by editing boot.plist

In your mac_osx_5.JPG image, the osx partition seems to be in the Hidden state... Apart from that your partitioning seems ok.

Anyway, you should tell us more about your hardware,

or check the osx86 wiki hardware compatibility list to see if your hardware is problematic.

Also tell us which install dvd you used (jas, uphuck...), and which customized install settings you selected.

Thanks cbmkgd,

It seems that my hardware is compatible with the system. I have installed the Mac OSX 10.4.6 Tiger x86.iso image and, according to osx86 wiki, it must work.

Attached is a txt file with the hardware of my Dell Latitude D505.

Processor: Intel Pentium M 1.6GHz

Graphics card: Intergrated Intel 852 GM/GME 855 GM/GME

Network controller: Intel® Pro/Wireless 2200BG

Bluetooth: Widcomm

Ultra ATA Intel 82801DBM-24CA

From the wiki link:

Fresh install using 10.4.6 JaS ISO. Install fine, needs IOFireWire* kexts removing - boot again from install DVD, choose Utilities, Terminal. cd to /Volumes/DISKNAME/System/Library/Extensions.

Have you tried this?

As you have only a sse2 capable cpu, i assume you chose an appropriate item in the custom install list.

You might also try a more recent dvd, like jas 10.4.9 or the uphuck 1.4i r2. Maybe (just maybe) these behave better on your hardware.

since it goes far enough into booting (on the previous non-working install), i don't think it's a boot sector problem.

maybe an ide kext problem/conflict...

...i'll let those who had success with osx on the d505 help you at this point.

again, i suggest you tell which customized settings you used to install (and which 10.4.6: jas, goatsecs, hotiso(=jas)...); that might help them help you.

good luck

I tested a SSE2 prosessor(Pentium4 1,7 Ghz) with 10.4.7 (on an old DELL) and it works fine since i chose sse2 support only.

10.4.8 , 9 , 10 doesnt work on it.

I belive that you souldnt lose time trying latest releses istade of tryind 10.4.7 and earlyer.
