jpost
Hi all, I tried to install and run Tiger without effect. It hangs when it tries to load the os, I only see a grey screen with an apple and progress-indicator. When I choose for verbose mode it hangs after displaying the line "still waiting for root device". Can sb maybe tell me what hardware could be the cause? My hardware specs are: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (with SSE+SSE2+SSE3) MSI MS-7093 motherboard with ATI RS480/RX480M2 chipset Maxtor SATA 160 GB harddisk Thanks in advance, /Jeroen Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5789-still-waiting-for-root-device/ Share on other sites
DSi-Gaming
2 things may cause this using cable select ( CS ) mode on yoru hard-drives -> only use master/slave having your Hard-Drive connected to a third-party or add-in controller card, such as a scsi card or a non-chipset IDE/SATA controller ( such as the GigaRaid chip ) -> try to connect all boot drives via the onboard integrated SATA/IDE controllers ( ICH4/5/6/7 from intel should all be supported ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5789-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-36559 Share on other sites
Andras Kenez
My opinion the ATI RS480/RX480M2 chipset the bad guy.... I think OSX86 has not driver for ATI IDE... RnO
SATA is probably not supported, it's a known issue for AMD especiall with NFORCE4 chipses. I had to buy an IDE drive, or wait possibly for a patch. jpost
Thanks for the support! Okay I tried several boot options without any outcome and checked my disks jumper settings but that was ok, so I also think its the chipset. I think indeed I have to try an IDE drive.... jpost
Hi people, I installed another drive, its an 80 gb IDE drive and tried that. Now I get the following warning: Warning: ATA device claims FLUSH CACHE EXT feature support but doesn't clam Extended LBA feature suport and than it hangs... has somebody any idea what could be the problem this time? jpost
Hi again, I managed to reach the blue (login?) screen, but the only think I saw was a mousepointer. (my mouse worked). The boot process was very slow (took about 10-15 mins to reach the blue screen), but firewire, usb and networkcard were detected and initialised. But videocard was a problem, and I still get the hd lba warning... I think it hangs when I see the blue screen but maybe its stlill loading... Has sb any idea what could be the problem? Is it the wrong chipset? Is there a driver for my hd or video, a different kernel? DSi-Gaming
Either you forgot to pre-patch the iso with Anti-TPM ( the results of this would be a hang just after the blue screen appears, with the beachball, preventing you from installing, or booting from an unpatched image ) Also, it may be an extensions problem, its recommended to take out the AppleTPMACPI.kext, AppleFPMem.kext and if you dont have an ATI card, the ATI kexts, before install. Also, at the boot prompt try -x -v platform=X86PC Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5789-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-37352 Share on other sites
