help out

anyone has luck on installing on 1420

I tried with disbling with all wireless options and Dual processor

still no diffrence i have stuck to

Using 16384 buffer headers & 4096 cluster IO buffer header

IOAPIC: Version 0X20 vector 0:23

then need to hard reset machine even alt+ctrl+del doesnt work

Does the nVidia card work at 1280x800 or is it all squished like on the older Dell laptops?

congrats chadteck...did you use uphuck 1.4i? and do you have the 8400gs? were you able to turn on QE/CI?

Sorry, I forgot to mention I used uphuck 1.4i.

I do have the 8400GS. I have set the GraphicsMode in the boot.plist file to 1440x900 (I have the WXGA+ screen) and it is running fine at that resolution, so I would assume it would work fine with 1280x800 as well.

I had to install some drivers that I found to stop the windows from tearing when dragged, and as far as I know, there is no support for Res change, QE/CI yet. Although, there is a thread and it seems that several people are working on it.

it looks like we have pretty much the same config...

i tried using 1.4i on mine but i get an error when i try to run the setup...do you have to turn anything off in the bios(SATA, speedstep, Dual Core)?

a better chance is, to have a osx install on another machine to a usb drive,...

can even use carbon copy cloner, (don't forget to donate for the shareware)

test it out so it boot from that machine from the usb drive,...

then boot the dell 1520, 1420 or dell vostro 1400 1500 1700

from the usb drive,.... now at least not dependant from the install disk,

and should be much easier, to boot with -v or -v -s

and remove the problem kext, most likly the powermanagment,

To start, I am new to the osx on pc deal but am very eager to do it. I have an inspiron 1420 and here are the essential components:

core 2 duo t7300

nvidia 8400 m gs

160 GB sata hard drive

I am using the uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4i r3 install disk.

So I set up a 10 GB partition, but when I tried to find it in diskpart I couldn't see it. I could clearly see it in disk mgmt and though this was odd. So I extended the volume and then shrunk it again to 8 GB. Once again, I could not find it in diskpart. Once again I extended the volume and this time wanted to make a 10 GB partition. However, it now said I only had 9 GB available to shrink which is very odd because I have 40 GB left on my hard drive. I made this 9 GB partition hoping it would work. I launched diskpart and still could not see the partition. So, I decided to not shrink or extend anymore because I was afraid I would never be able to do it again.

Now, I decided to install osx on my external HD because I read that I could install it here and then make a copy with carbon copy cloner. So I erased the entire drive using the disk utility included while trying to install osx. After this was completed, a screen appeared with the installation options. I check every box to make sure everything was installed. Installation completed and I restarted as it said. When trying to boot from my HD, all these great install lines scroll through my screen when suddenly it stops. I read through what I could and came upon this line which stood out to me "panic(cpu 1 caller 0x003810c5)". Now I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

could you please detail which drivers u used to reduce tearing? its annoying the hell out of me.

im talking to u all now from a Vostro 1700 running uphuck's 10.4.9 OSX86 with the 1390 wireless working perfectly viewed thru an 8400M GS graphics setup (along with the bluetooth :))and yes, both cores are working :P

only other really annoying thing is that i cant for the life of me get the sound to work properly, i have a volume indicator but no audio is detected in sysinfo and theres no sound coming out of the speakers ;)

audio chipset is a Sigmatel 9205.

oh, and all u folks having issues with being able to see freshly shrunk partitions on diskpart its because you are limited to having 4 partitions, and (MOST) dells come with 4 from the factories.my vostro 1700 had a stupid 120mb FAT32 (that i didnt want to delete), a big partition for the OS/Programs (that i shrunk eventally), a ~2gb partition for the MediaDirect (that i didnt care about, deleted it), and a 2.5gb partition for the recovery.i deleted the mediadirect partition and WOW, i was immediately able to create the partition from my shrunk space :)

Heya ge0ne,

I just got my 1520 and have vista installed on it and want to dual boot Mac OS-X as well. I tried a 10.4.8 JAS and the 10.4.9 uphuk v1.4i one as well but got that same panic/stack:

Using 16384 buffer headers & 4096 cluster IO buffer header

IOAPIC: Version 0X20 vector 0:23

panic etc.

Did you have to do anything in the bios to get it to work?

Cheers

Cal

1. Be sure that the SATA is set for ATA and not AHCI

2. Boot with: platform=X86PC -v -x

3. pray a lot

I got JaS 10.4.8 to finally load on a vostro 1500. no good video, sound or network yet.

The -x was the ticket for me, although out of 10 bootup attempts with the DVD, it still will panic 5 or 6 times. I was just persistent and varied the flags (always keeping -x in) and finally got it installed

My video card is the 8600m GT and the audio is the sigmatel. My wireless is the intel 802.11n card

The settings I used are:

10.4.9 1.4i R3 Installation Settings

- v1.4i main

- Log Window

- nVidia Mobility

- USB driver

- Azalia Audio

- Power management Bundle

- Intel Speedstep

- Intel Pro/100 VE

- All applications Checked

Now my sound doesn't work and my video is a bit screwy (I cannot move the windows around as they leave trails and the graphocs wash, but it is functional I adopt no scrolling habits but use the immediate click to get up and down the scroll bar).

Wireless surprisingly works like a charm. Wonder when the support will come out for the 8600m? That's the card that's in the mid range macbook pros so I can't see it being too long from now.

Thanks for your help.

Hi there! I have Dell 1520: CoreDuo 2Mhz, 2GB, 160 Gb, 8600 GT.

Just now succesfully install MacOs. I had to switch SATA to ATA in BIOS.

But video and sound dosn't work properly!( Try to solve it!

But everything else works good! OSX see CoreDuo, Bluetooth, WiFi and other!

Have anybody see drivers for 8600GT?)

does anybody have wsxga 1680x1050 screen ?

since the X3100 and 8400m , 8600m are not supported,...

can you get full screen res ?

does video run ? vlc, youtube ?

can you plug in an external monitor ?

thanks, Rob

Vostro 1520 with 1680x1050 screen. 8600m GT video card not working. Sigmatech 9205 not working. of course SD card reader not working. Besides those above 3 items, everything else work in Jas 10.4.8 -> Koolkay 10.4.10 upgrade package. 1680x1050 by writing graphic mode. Webcam work out of box, wireless work out of box, as well as usb, bluetooth. With kext replacing and en0-en1 swap, ethernet worked.

Installation from Jas 10.4.8 DVD is a little bit time consuming because of kernal panic. Darwin will boot ok once out of 5-6 panic. Installed the Jas 10.4.8 with only loginwindow patch. After successful boot up the 10.4.8, install 10.4.10 upgrade with no drivers. Here we go with 10.4.10.

Then do graphic mode edit, IOnetworkext install following with en0-en1 swap. everything shold be fine.

Now only eager for 8600m GT driver and Sigmatech 9205 driver.

The AHCI is a b*tch, but the graphics are kiling me. I have a Thinkpad T61, next gen Quadro FX 570 M (it's a GeForce 8600GT but updated to the next GPU). I am desparate for better graphics as that's what's holding me back, but they apparently are tied into the EFI (apple uses EFI instead of BIOS). See this post: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=53052

Anybody get it working, hats off and then I can really use it. Till then, low res, etc. suck. :P
