errandwolfe
I am SO looking forward to this release. I only hope it stays as stable as previous releases. I actually spoke with a rep today, and they expect to have this version released by the end of June. Wish I could get my hands on a beta of this, can't wait! The day 3D GPU emulation becomes available, I'll have one less reason to boot into Windows: games. In reality I am not much of a gamer, but I like my collection of chess games and a few more. EFI
I too am really looking forward to this...bring on the betas! lol. Although, I have one doubt though, even though 3D games will run much smoother than they do now...I still doubt its going to run as smooth as if you were running natively under Windows. Dunno for sure though, maybe it will, but the thought of games running at full speed in an OS within an OS, is kind of hard to imagine. Any thoughts? rollcage
Anyone heard if you'll be able to boot Vista from a bootcamp partition? I kind of assume that will be a new feature. Smartselect sounds great, I'll probably find that more useful than the 3D graphics. sev7en
I got the news via email, I am a registered user, but when I try to update my version, Paypal redirect me to this un-verified business account (it looks like opened 2months ago): Anyone can confirm me it's real? I sent an email to PayPal and Parallels but they haven't replied yet. jgrimes80
I'm suprised no one has mention 3D Modelers/CAD... It should be a significant performance boost Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/52801-parallels-30-for-mac-3d-gpu-emulation-confirmed/#findComment-376979 Share on other sites

johndoe2k4
hey guys, I can't say too much about it but I am a beta tester for Parallels and theres a few new features besides 3D gaming that are really nice. They still need to work out a few kinks. Please don't ask me for a copy of the beta version of Parallels cause I won't give it to you. If it was 100% emulation, surely it would be slow, but as far as I understand the concept of Parallels, VMWare etc. they are mapping functionality on API's and not emulating. The CPU is natively utilized, so If GPU is following the same concept as well, meaning utilizing our ATi's or nVidia's on Mac, it will have a nice performance on games. Sorry for my English, and lack of terminology knowledge. Well, if you look carefully, you'll notice it says GPU emulation, not virtualization. So basically, it's going to be like VMWare Fusion in a sense where a GPU is emulated by the software. No GPU virtualization yet. AFAIK, there hasn't even been technology like that implemented in modern GPU's as of yet. NeSuKuN
yes, it's emulation, but not in the sense that it's completely implemented using software. It will do, whenever possible, translation of DX/OGL calls to host's OGL so they are hardware accelerated, but the translation will obviously carry extra work and that's why it won't ever be at native speed. Also take into account that untranslatable calls will have to be implemented either as a mixture of accelerated calls and software or pure software. For pure GPU virtualization, GPU manufacturers will have to implement some Vanderpool like technology. Will it be like Fusion's? well probably will be more or less like when fusion's finish it's experimental stage. But now, fusion's acceleration is VERY crappy and seems far from what parallels video shown.
