lxjenkins
I recently had to revert to an old sound card as my new one bit the dust. I'm currently using the Aureal Vortex 8830 - however, there's no audio out of my 10.4.8 install. Any suggestions / ideas / advice?
atzero.
You have to consider that mac wouldnt have drivers for all sorts of different sound cards since most of thier machines are %110 Proprietary. With some Intel boards, the built in audio will work (namely RealTek sound chips), but cards like my precious Sound Blaster Audigy have no support. You may try disabling the built-in sound card in BIOS but I wouldnt hope for any magic. My best advice is to find out what someone else is using that works and buy that (if its worth the price). You might also check to see if someone has made a OSX compatible driver for the sound card but dont get your hopes up.
