Get the 8.9.1 kern from Uphuck 10.4.9 Universal DVD v1.3.cdr (torrrent)

Rename cdr to iso.

Use pacifist to install only the kern.

Dont forget to istall the loginwindow.10.4.4.pkg too. (about mac issue)

I have 10.4.11 all updates and 8.9.1 kern (pentium M 1.8, ati 9700/128 etc) all working fine (didnt have this success with linux lol)

Hello,

I'm using a Asus EEE Pc 701. I installed the "Uphuck Mac Os 10.4.9 Rev 3" on it and it works fine.

I need to upgrade to the 10.4.10, do you know if i have to do something more special than what is described in the mini-guide ?

Do I have to reinstall all the drivers of my hardware ?

Thanks a lot

EXCELLENT. I was able to use this method to go from JaS 10.4.8 to 10.4.11 directly... I am on an HP Pavilion s7410n, Intel 915...prior to this everything had been working except for Sleep, microphone, and DVD playback in DVD Player (VLC worked with a slow start). The only problem I see so far is that my spotty DVD playback doesn't seem to work at all -- I could have sworn I had QE/CI before and now do not...that's OK for now.

Some notes.

I used the 10.4.11 Combo Updater from Apple.

I booted into safe mode with the -x flag before proceeding.

I did the rest of the steps more-or-less as instructed but before restarting the first time I:

a) reran my loginwindow 10.4.4 pkg because my attempt to restore it via Terminal didn't look quite right to me (missing ".app")

:) ran the GMA900 support package that I had previously extracted from JaS.... originally I had just used the GMA900 package and

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel915*

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel915*

so I did this again.

c) repaired permissions again before restarting

For me this rebooted twice and both times I quickly pressed F8 and booted with -f -v

Audio worked even though I think AppleHDA was added (I'm using Azalia) ... ethernet worked without my having to re-add "AppleIntel8255x.kext"

SystemProfiler crashed until I added the ProfilerPatch from this thread

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...rt=#entry401401

Got the kernel from this linked thread

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t=#entry1052666

used kexthelper to install (instead of the pacifist step)

repaired permissions

working!

Now I just need to sort out the video but that was spotty before the upgrade.

THANK YOU!!!

EDIT: Finally got QE/CI working again with Diabolik's patcher...took me forever to find for some reason

This got my VLC working again...now to attempt DVD Player (or give up on this part :D

Also updated a Toshiba Satellite 1135-S155 directly to 10.4.11.

Original install was JaS 10.4.8 Intel AMD SSe2 SSe3 with only the Intel mods checked off... (sound works out-of-the-box, I could never get ether, display, or sleep to work but that's fine for this machine...using USB wireless).

As with my previous post I:

I used the 10.4.11 Combo Updater from Apple.

I booted into safe mode with the -x flag before proceeding.

I did the rest of the steps more-or-less as instructed but before restarting the first time I:

a) reran my loginwindow 10.4.4 pkg because my attempt to restore it via Terminal didn't look quite right to me (missing ".app") [i think I ended up having to do this step again later...no matter]

;) did not waste space with Graphics installs since they didn't work me with/without the Diabolik patcher...maybe you'll find a way.

For me this rebooted twice andI quickly pressed F8 and booted with -f -v the first time.

SystemProfiler crashed until I added the ProfilerPatch from this thread

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...rt=#entry401401

Got the kernel from this linked thread

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t=#entry1052666

used kexthelper to install (instead of the pacifist step)

repaired permissions

Oh, for some reason my mach_kernel is now visible so I used posts 4 and 5 here to make a .hidden file to hide it: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&p=499429

Thanks!

THIS GUIDE HAS BEEN UPDATED AGAIN. :D

As of 8/25/2007:

This guide can also be used to update a system from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10. It will not update from 10.4.8 to 10.4.10.

The combo update will not work with these instructions. I prefer that you only update the system and not the kernel. 10.4.10 kernel is not completed yet.

INSTRUCTIONS TO UPDATE THE KERNEL ARE BELOW. (only 10.4.9)

=======================================================================

Requirements:

1) 10.4.9 Delta updater: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/mac...pdateintel.html

2) 15-30 minutes of your time

3) Pacifist

4) IRC client to get new kernel.

=======================================================================

Steps to update to 10.4.9/10.4.10 without new kernel:

1) Open up the terminal and type "sudo -s" then "your password" then the following (line by line):

cp /mach_kernel /old
cp -R /system/library/coreservices/loginwindow.app /
cp -R /system/library/extensions/AppleSMBIOS.kext /
cp -R /system/library/extensions/AppleACPIplatform.kext /
cp -R /system/library/extensions/AppleAPIC.kext /
cp -R /system/library/extensions/IOATAFamily.kext /
cp -R /system/library/extensions/system.kext /

2) Keep terminal open.

3) Open disk utility and keep it open

4) Run the delta installer (AND DO NOT RESTART---IGNORE THE INSTALLER WINDOW)

5) Open terminal and type the following:

cp /old /mach_kernel
cp -R /loginwindow.app /system/library/coreservices/
cp -R /AppleSMBIOS.kext /system/library/extensions/
cp -R /AppleACPIplatform.kext /system/library/extensions/
cp -R /AppleAPIC.kext /system/library/extensions/
cp -R /IOATAFamily.kext /system/library/extensions/
cp -R /system.kext /system/library/extensions/
rm -rf /system/library/extensions.*

6) Open disk utility and repair permissions for your OS X partition

7) Pray and restart the system (unless you have GMA 900 or GMA 950--> read below)

8) Post pictures of your 10.4.9/10.4.10 :)

NB:- The first system boot after the update might take very long and cause a couple of restarts.

=======================================================================

GMA 900/950 users: (Do these steps after finishing above steps)

900: Go to this site http://diabolik1605.com/DHF/iATi.html download the GMA900 package and install it then reboot.

950: install the support files from the 10.4.8 DVD or any other source that you have.

=======================================================================

Kernel update steps (for the 10.4.9 kernel):

Once you make sure that everything is working fine with above steps, do these.

1) Go to system>library>extensions and copy system.kext to the desktop

2) Open your update DMG and open the .pkg with pacifist.

3) Select system>library>extensions>system.kext (ONLY THIS KEXT) and click install.

4) Go to: irc.osx86.hu then #kernel the #1049 to get the link for the latest 8.9.1 universal kernel (use an irc client like colloquy)

5) Download the latest universal kernel, extract it, and rename it to mach_kernel instead of mach_sse2.

6) Put this kernel in the users folder (temporarily)

7) Open the terminal and type the following:

sudo -s
cp -R /mach_kernel /old
cp -R /users/mach_kernel /
(DO NOT DO IF YOU HAVE CORE 2) rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext
rm -rf /system/library/extensions.*

8) Repair permissions using disk utility.

9) Reboot and pray again... lol

=======================================================================

Congratulations, you now have the complete and latest version of OS X ;)

***If this does not work, boot with the boot flag "old" (without quotes)

Copy old system.kext from you desktop back to the extensions folder and repair permissions.

open terminal and type:

sudo -s
rm -rf /mach_kernel
cp -R /old /mach_kernel

=====================================================================

Dearest friends I have an old IBM Desktop with 40G HD 1GB Ram and DVD Multi player in which, finally i got the right package and install iAKTOS 5i, actually all information is inside the disk, the secret is to choose the right Package as i mentioned before, I selected chamaleon and other few drivers due my computer spec are low, at the end worked fine except the LAN and a single resolution of 1024x768, millions because i dont have graphic card, I think is easier and better to install this software than wasting time around, good luck bros.

AWESOME! I have JAS Tiger 10.4.11 running now on my HP D530 SFF, 3.06Ghz Northwood and 1-gig of ram, on a 120gb USB 2.0 HDD, and it runs FLAWLESSLY! Sound works great, had to patch the network driver, but everything's working... I'm happy, after several failed attempts to install KalyWay leopard 10.5.3 on this machine, don't waste your time, leopard on the D530 is a no go...

Anyways, I followed these instructions, didn't use safe mode, forgot to. I used the combo update from apple, updated directly from 10.4.8 to 10.4.11, then updated the kernel, then applied the profiler patch. Like I said above it's running great!

hmmm, that was short lived... now for some odd reason i cannot mount any image files, which means i cannot install any new software, the whole reason for the update...

ex. when I try to mount I-work 09.dmg it sits there for a while then prompts that it's unable to mount-device not configured.

any suggestions???

Here's the answer to your problem about dmg files Sumi:

To be able to open dmg files you have to have the same version of the kernel and of the System.kext kernel extension located in your /System/Library/Extensions folder

Hope this helps,

can you clarify? when i open my System.kext it has a folder called Plugins, and 2 files called Info.plist and version.plist , i opened the version.plist,

it says ,

<key>BuildVersion</key>

<string>1</string>

<key>CFBundleVersionString</key>

<string>8.9.1</string> <--- is this the kernel version?

what should i do next?

  • 1 month later...

first off i would just like to say thank you to the poster of this step by step informative guide.

after weeks of searching and reading i finally decided to try to install Tiger.

I managed to install 10.4.8 using JaS on my Asrock p4i65g w/ 1gig Ram and Intel Celeron D .

i also managed to update from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 (without the kernal) with this guide no problems.

i then followed the steps (1-8) again to update from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10 (without kernal) with the following problems

1) System Profiler crash

managed to fix with

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=#entry4014012)

2)"About this Mac" crash

somewhere in all of this i saved a copy of System.kext to my desktop

i guess my kernal would still be 10.4.8 one?

are these two problems related? i have tried to figure out Ircle (eww no thnx) and Colloquy won't work for some reason since 10.4.10. so im kinda hoping someone here could help me out.

im not a guru at any of this stuff , im kinda new to it, but im not exactly a noob asking people to hold my hand.

im just kinda stumped on this is all.

thanks

Thank you very much for that tutorial. In addition, I would like to say that I went trough all updates from 10.4.8 to 10.4.11 (Intel) using your method and it worked like a charm for me. As for the GMA 900 / 950 - I just deleted all the kexts related with my graphic card before the reboot. BEWARE: I haven't updated the kernel AT ALL!

Here are the links for the other updates (10.4.10 and 10.4.11), even if I`m not sure if I`m allowed to do this at all, I`ll take my chances :

10.4.10 Update (Intel) : http://support.apple.com/kb/DL237

10.4.11 Update (Intel) : http://support.apple.com/kb/DL171

NOTE: After the 3 updates I`m successfully using all compatible software with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11

My Machine: HP COMPAQ NC6220 / Intel Pentium (M) 1.73GHz / 1 GB / 667MHz RAM / 40 GB HDD TOSHIBA / Intel GMA 900 Graphics (On-board)

I really hope that I helped somehow!
