Slinger2g
DVD Playback is very choppy since I installed 10.4.8 JAS dvd. I have looked around in search of a remedy, all I can find is being pointer in the direction of VLC. VLC make's playback very nice, but I only get background audio.(soundtrack playback) Is it because I only have SSE2 processor, or am I missing a patch? I can remember back when Maxxuss patched the DVD Playback in 10.4.3, it made playback flawless on all SSE2 mobo\processor combo's. Is there a remedy??? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks This topic has prolly already been covered, however, if someone can point me in the right direction or if JAS himself can assist me it wound be GREATLY appreciated. Everything works outstandedly except DVD player. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44467-dvd-playback-choppy/ Share on other sites
-TiLT-
I suppose dvd playback with dvdplayer.app is choppy because of incredibly extensive use of sse3 instructions to do a highly precise or even reference IDCT. Unless dvdplayer.app isn´t patched, you could try to extract an older dvdplayer.app from an install dvd prior to 10.4.8 and check if it is working better. If it is not, it is something concerning the kernel and semthex might be interested in it. Slinger2g
Thanks for the reply Tilt!!! I tried an older version, but no luck. I even tried replacing DVDPlayer.frameworks, still nothing. I tried applying the maxxuss patch in 10.4.8, but maxxuss wrote a version check which will only allow the patch to be installed in 10.4.3. I had the same choppy dilema with 10.4.3 until I ran the dvd playback maxxuss patch. Is there a similar patch for 10.4.8? Maybe Semthex is aware and has written a patch already? tonymacx86
I have the same problem with sse2 10.4.8 installation. Everything else works great- it's definitely not a RAM issue, as I have 2.5gb RAM. It would be great if there is a quick patch fix for this- does anyone else have this problem? Slinger2g
I hacked apart the hack for maxxuss' DVD Playback patch. It'll install in 10.4.8 now but, DVD Player causes a kernel panic. Somebody's gotta have a solution!!! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44467-dvd-playback-choppy/#findComment-322629 Share on other sites
Slinger2g
If Maxxuss did it in 10.4.3 someone can do it in 10.4.8!!!!!!!!!!!! COME ON PEOPLE Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44467-dvd-playback-choppy/#findComment-324370 Share on other sites
Hitchhiker
I've got the exact same issue. I have a Dell D800 with the Nvidia Go5200 w/32MB. Everything works well except for DVD playback. When I use VLC, I can play the DVD in a window, but no luck with full screen. I would love to see a solution for this. If only one of the big dawg's could read this and make an emulation patch like maxxuss....... :EDIT: After applying the proper patches, I haven't had any audio issue's with VLC Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44467-dvd-playback-choppy/#findComment-330483 Share on other sites
